About this property
CABIN overlooking pond + HIKING to waterfalls & lookouts (completely off-grid)
No service, no electricity, no plumbing, no problems. "Kabinka" is the name of our eastern European inspired Chalet. She is unadorned, a simple off-grid shelter for your wilderness retreat. Configured equally for a large party of family/friends, or for a couple's weekend away. Outside is a growing network of trails, winding along Rockingham Creek and surrounding hills, with views of our hobby farm and spectacular waterfalls. This space is designed to be an escape to something different. This is truly "off the grid". That means no solar panels, no electricity, no lighting, no indoor toilet. The only cooking surfaces are the wood stove, campfire with grill, and BBQ. We recommend guests PACK LIKE YOU ARE GOING ON A CAMPING TRIP. Linens are available for an extra cost per bed. Please MESSAGE us with any questions.

About the host
Hosted by August Edward

In the tradition of his Italian forefathers, August Edward is an engineer turned farmer and finally, a tourist guide. He can be spotted running barefoot through the trails and often chasing his cows around. When he finally chases them into the milking shed, this twice daily routine, year round, doesn't leave much time to travel anymore, so he enjoys visits from travellers abroad. Being a hill farmer doesn't quite pay the bills, so he is happy to share the rugged beauty of the Rockingham Creek Valley with others.
Why they chose this property
Drawn to the hills of the Upper Ottawa Valley with a desire to tend a herd of Canadienne milk cows, August Edward has found the perfect place in Rockingham. This old lumber town has a perfect mix of picturesque meadowlands and rugged natural scenery. The original 1870s Rockingham Church has be restored and is open to visitors as a 'museum'. Other buildings in this former ghost town, hotel, general store, school, have been turned into homes by more recent settlers.
What makes this property unique
Central in the Rockingham Creek Valley is the locally popular Rockingham Falls. This torrent used to power a sawmill and grist mill and is the reason for the hamlet's existence. A continually growing network of trails tour along side the creek, the falls, and up to a series of lookouts with views over this modest valley located at the top of the great Ottawa River watershed.
