Typical « charente » house which has been completely renovated in a charming village 6 kms from the town of Saintes (South West France)

Large bedroom (25 m2) with ensuite bathroom, spacious living room, fitted kitchen and dining room.

Garden on several levels with two large sitting areas (garden furniture etc..)

Near the river Charente (river swimming spot 2kms from the house in the village of Chaniers)

30 minutes from the Atlantic Coast, 25 kms from Cognac and a one hour drive from Bordeaux.

The house is situated in the heart of the marshland surrounding the river Seugne offering some lovely cycling trips around the house. (two bikes can be borrowed)

Lovely location and nice and quiet after hectic travels

Spacious and idyllic location with fresh tomatoes from the garden made available to us. All appliances worked and there were lots of supplies, spices, cooking oil etc. from previous Vrbo customers. Only miss was it could use a clothes dryer but it was summer so we could hang out our wash.

Wunderbares Haus in toller Lage

Wir wurden sehr freundlich in Empfang genommen. Das Haus ist wunderbar, sehr geräumig und sehr sauber. Da die Gegend sehr sumpfig ist, muss man abends mit Stechmücken rechnen. Ansonsten waren wir sehr glücklich, auch über den netten Kontakt und die Hilfsbereitschaft, als ich krank wurde und das Auto eine Krise hatte.

Ein Wohlfühl-Haus

Wer dieses Haus für die Ferien bucht, wird es nicht bereuen! Sämtliche Zimmer sind sehr schön eingerichtet, die Küche ist top, ebenso die beiden Badezimmer und das Gäste-WC im Haus. Hinzukommt der besondere Charme des Hauses: unsere Vermieter kauften es mehr oder weniger als „Ruine" und haben es in Eigenregie über Jahre hinweg neu aufgebaut und restauriert. So mischt sich „Alt" mit „Neu" auf sehr reizvolle Weise... Der Garten hinter dem Haus verdient ebenfalls 5 Sterne! Alles blüht und grünt. Je nach Tageszeit und Sonnenstand gibt es zwei Terrassen auf unterschiedlichen Höhen. Morgens kann man seinen ersten Kaffee auf der oberen genießen und abends ist die untere genau richtig, um den Tag mit einem guten Wein ausklingen zu lassen. Natürlich. Das hört sich jetzt alles so an wie aus einem Werbe-Prospekt. Aber genauso war es! Fazit: in diesem Haus, in diesem Garten und mit den wenigen Nachbarn drumherum findet man Ruhe und Erholung und gleichzeitig ist man in knapp einer Viertelstunde in Saintes, in ca. 30 Minuten in Cognac und nach La Rochelle fährt man auch nur etwas mehr als eine Stunde... Für Tagesausflüge also eine ideale Lage. Insofern ist keine Überraschung, dass wir bereits über einen zweiten Aufenthalt nachdenken. Unsere Gastgeber haben alles RICHTIG gemacht! Merci!!!

Entspannte Ferien in tollem Ambiente

Das alte Haus ist liebevoll und mit viel Geschmack renoviert worden, bietet viel Platz und Komfort, ist sehr gepflegt und in tadellosem Zustand. Der Garten auf mehreren Ebenen bietet an heißen Tagen immer ein schattiges Plätzchen, ist mit wunderschönen Pflanzen angelegt und die Gastgeber haben sogar verschiedene Tomatensorten und Zucchinis angepflanzt, die wir als Gäste ernten durften. Die Umgebung ist sehr ruhig, so dass man entspannt ausschlafen und die Seele baumeln lassen kann. Der Weg zum Bäcker im benachbarten Chaniers führt über eine kleine kostenlose Pendelfähre über die Charente - sehr idyllisch, wo man auch baden kann. Dank der zwei Fahrräder, die zum Haus gehören, ist der Weg nur 10 Minuten. Die Umgebung bietet viele schöne Radrouten, aber auch interessante Ausflüge mit dem Auto nach Cognac, La Rochelle oder mit der Fähre auf die Medoc Halbinsel, etc. Auch das nahe gelegene Saintes bietet interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten und alle umliegenden Orte wunderschöne romanische Kirchen. Leider haben wir die Gastgeber nicht persönlich kennengelernt, aber sie standen jederzeit für Fragen und Tipps zur Verfügung und waren äußerst zuvorkommend.

Un séjour très agréable , grâce à Sarah et Jean Pierre qui ont œuvré pour la mise en valeur de leur superbe maison , l'aménagement intérieur et le très grand jardin. Bien située, "au calme "d'une belle campagne. Beaucoup de sites à découvrir autour "des Vieux Murs " ; en voiture, à vélos (mis à disposition). Ballades et randonnées au départ des "Vieux Murs". Très agréable maison dans un écrin de verdure

Nous avons été chaleureusement accueillis par les propriétaires qui nous ont raconté l'histoire de ces "vieux murs" qu'ils ont restaurés pendant de longues années. La maison est spacieuse, calme et fonctionnelle et dispose d'extérieurs très agréables (deux terrasses, un grand espace vert, de la place pour se garer près de l'entrée et décharger facilement sa voiture...). Notre fille âgée de 2 ans s'y est très bien plu ! Bref, nous recommandons ce petit coin de paradis.

Excellent accommodation

This is a large beautifully refurbished well equipped property which it is clear has been lovingly restored by Sarah and her family. It is situated in a very quiet rural location yet still benefits from the closeness of Saintes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Sarah was a willing and helpful host. While the house does not have air conditioning, it would benefit from a couple of fans to circulate the air on those hot French nights.

Belle maison dans un lieu très plaisant

La maison de Sarah et Jean-Pierre est rénovée avec beaucoup de goût. Les espaces sont fonctionnels et vastes, même en cas de météo défavorable, l'intérieur du logement nous a permis d'organiser des activités pour les enfants. Les environs sont charmants: les bords de la Charente sont calmes, praticables à vélo en famille et très jolis (animaux, nature, parcs, etc). Le village de Courcoury n'est pas particulièrement animé mais très joli. Des déplacements aux alentours permettent d'aller à la rencontre de la culture, des animations, des plages, etc. Les hôtes sont accueillants et n'hésitent pas à délivrer leurs conseils pour des balades. Nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Courcoury!

Maison très spacieuse décorée avec goût ayant une belle histoire et dans une région à découvrir.

Nous avons été très bien reçus par nos hôtes qui avaient gentiment mis des vélos à notre disposition. La literie est de qualité et la maison très bien équipé e. Endroit très calme avec un voisinage avenant. A proximité de Saintes, à ne pas rater, et à environ 45 minutes de la mer où nous avons pu faire une randonnée sur le sentier des Douaniers. Le flow vélo qui longe la Charente permet de faire de jolies balades. Un très bon souvenir de ces quelques jours aux "Vieux Murs".

Très bon séjour avec les enfants, reposant, au calme.

La maison rustique est très bien équipée, confortable et surtout charmante (pierres blanches, poutres, couleurs douces, et les pièces sont très grandes). Il y a deux SDB dont une avec baignoire. Vue sur un champ de tournesols depuis la cuisine. Jardin fleuri. Nous avons bien apprécié d’aller nager dans la Charente (eau douce et propre à 25• minimum en août, un vrai bonheur!), qui se trouve à 1km seulement. Nous pouvons y aller à pieds et prendre le bac gratuitement, un moment unique pour les enfants! La plage est près du camping, ce qui permet de profiter du baby-foot, du restaurant ou des glaces, et d’acheter des melons et de délicieuses tomates du jardin des gérants . Penser au karting, à seulement 10mn, et aux visites à Saintes. Château de Crazannes joli et Intéressant. On est en moins d’une heure sur la côte, mais comme il y avait du monde en août, nous avons préféré profiter du calme de la Charente. Très bon restaurant, l’ Amaryllis, à 1km de la maison, et cueillette de mûres près du bac. En conclusion, de belles vacances tranquilles qui nous ont permis de découvrir la région! En sortie, Nous avons trouvé les gens très souriants et accueillants. Merci à Sarah pour son accueil et bravo à son mari pour la restauration de la maison!

Clean, quiet and spacious.

The house is just like in the photos, very clean and spacious with comfortable beds and brand new bathrooms. The huge kitchen is bright and well equipped. The house is close to the towns of Saintes, and Cognac, and a short drive from the atlantic beaches and the small coastal villages. Sarah and Jean Pierre and friendly and gracious hosts. It got a little chilly a couple of days due to rain and we used the wood fired oven in the living room - it was in perfect order. We can higly recommend staying there. Viktoria and Sigurdur. .

Séjour formidable

Mon épouse et moi avons passé un excellent séjour chez Sarah et Jean-Pierre, les charmants et accueillants propriétaires de cette belle maison entièrement restaurée à la perfection et avec goût. Nous recommandons cette location pour son calme, sa proximité avec la rivière. La mer n'est pas très loin et il y a pas mal de choses à visiter dans les environs (Saintes, Cognac, Royan et la Côte Sauvage, etc...). Parfait pour les citadins en manque de verdure et qui ont besoin de se ressourcer au contact de la nature !

We are both retired teachers (maths and English). Sarah is of British origin and Jean Pierre is French. We bought the house in a run down state and it has been our project over the past five years. The renovation of the ground floor is complete, next winter we will tackle the "attic" to add more bedrooms.

Why they chose this property

We ourselves live about 20 Minutes away from the house. The house is situated in a very charming spot, a stream runs just 100 meters from the house. The Charente river is only a few minutes away. You only need to hop on a bike, cycle for a few minutes, take the (free) boat to cross the river and you will be in the pretty village of Chaniers with its shops, church and beach (river swimming)

What makes this property unique

The house is typical of the region but with a new extension. It is very sunny, spacious (120m2) with a garden on three levels. There are several terraces all of which get the sun all day long.
