Private Spacious Apartment in Quiet, Safe, Cozy neighborhood - NO STAIRS!

We use Ozone to clean all linens and an Ozone air purifier to clean the air of all viruses, etc. !

Mother in Law apartment attached to our private residence - with its own separate entrance. August lock so you may come and go as you need. Quiet neighborhood. Small fenced yard with gate for privacy.

Full kitchen furnished with the bare necessities, washer/dryer, dining including table and 6 chairs, living room including loveseat and rocker, twin bed, king size bed in the bedroom - with a full closet.

For additional guests we have two foam mats.

We are close to (10 minutes) Whitworth - Green Bluff - Colbert - Deer Park!

We are 30-45 minutes from the airport depending on traffic and time of day!

We are 20 minutes from Gonzaga.

We are 5 minutes from Whitworth University.

We are in NORTH Spokane - take the Division St. exit - you must come N through town for 12 miles (Please don't lower our stars for our location!??!?! We are letting you know ahead of time it will take 25 minutes from I-90 to our house!!)

We received a lovely welcome by the Gilberts upon arrival to "Mother-in-law apartment". Home was clean, smelled wonderful, the neighborhood was quiet and we enjoyed watching the deer from the living room window. We would definitely recommend this rental and hope we can visit again.

Any time I had a question, hosts got back to me promptly, which I really appreciated. I also was able to take my daily 3 mile walk, and felt totally safe in the neighborhood. Amenities like dining, groceries were close by (within 2 miles). Location was convenient for the reason I was in town, and I was very happy with the accommodations. I would stay here again if I need to be in the area.

A great place to relax and feel at home. The owners were friendly and provided nice touches out of the ordinary - a welcome sign with my name spelled correctly, some sweet treats and some snack foods which made us feel truly welcomed and appreciated. And it was priced right. Will definitely return.

fit our needs perfectly

i apologize for not doing this sooner, but the day after we left, i came down with a bad cold and have not really felt up to doing it until today. we had a wonderful stay with Don and Morna. everything was clean and neat and serviceable. we had 4 adults staying together (us and our daughter and her husband), and there was plenty of room and privacy. the coded lock was great. i liked it.

Perfect for our graduation stay!

So much to do as we celebrated our daughter's graduation from Whitworth, moved her out of her off campus housing AND sent her off to Australia for 3 weeks! (We even decorated 51 cupcakes for our daughters roommate house party there!!) This place is welcoming, in a quiet neighborhood with very attentive, helpful hosts. My one recommendation is that you change your post to clarify that there is actually only ONE bedroom, not 2. The rest of the sleeping areas are all in the living room. Totally doable, but not a bedroom. Wish we had found this place 4 years ago when our daughter was a freshman instead of only for her graduation!! Thanks for a great stay!

Fine property

The condition was fine, the drive into town is less than convenient, my real issue is with the enormous trump flag hanging out front. I do not wish to stay in a place that forces me to encourage a proto fascist, probable rapist, a man who mocks the disabled, a man who encouraged the january 6th attacks, a truly vile unlikeable man. I’d also have refused to have done business with someone who believes all those things to be excusable, or perhaps even admirable.

As far as the drive is concerned - you knew before booking per the map where we are located. We can't change our location. That's on you. Though we understand your dislike for our flag, we were still very tolerant of the fact that you decided to have a party with excess alcohol, excess college age guests, and excessive music - in spite of our house rules. We appreciated your apology after the fact, but it took two approaches on our part and only the threat of police intervention until the 'excess' guests were evacuated. It took us two full days to do all the laundry and cleaning you so graciously left us. As far as our political views - that has nothing to do with the fact that we offer comfortable, safe accommodations at reasonable prices. The flag was a gift to us and out of respect for the gift-giver - we fly it. So we assume you have not been taught the First Amendment of the Constitution? Or the importance of respecting others' private property? Open your eyes Broderick - the world is bigger than you. Hoping your review brings us people who truly appreciate this amazing USA and all that has been sacrificed for your and our freedoms.

My review

Nice basic unit that overall appeared clean. The Keurig coffee pot with a the pods to go with it, the hot cocoa and the oatmeal were much appreciated. There was used soap in the shower, partially used soap and lotions in basket in bathroom. It would be more comfortable to stay here if there was a direct walkway from the street to the unit. That would be more comfortable than walking across the front of the owners home. The door from the owners home into the rental unit should at least have a dead bolt on the renters side.

Thank you for reserving our apartment for your family to stay. We always appreciate accurate feedback to better people's experience with us. The soaps/lotions/body wash/hairspray/handi-wipes in the basket in the bathroom are all new products from our supplier - though some are obviously not all as full as others. Possibly someone dropped one back in the basket? We would hope people would not feel they have to use it. They are all closable containers. Most of our guests appreciate the option of using what we have on hand if they forgot theirs! Our guests don't HAVE to use what we have made available! As far as the walkway to the apartment - it is 3 feet concrete sidewalk with clear instructions to the door of the apartment that we sent you - it is why we can be listed as wheelchair accessible! We actually prefer people to use the sidewalk as opposed to walking across our grass. We as homeowners do not mind our guests walking in front of our house so why would our guests mind it? The need for a deadbolt? There is a lock on the door to our home from the apartment that is locked at all times when we have guests. We do not go into the apartment without our guests opening the door for us. If we were to put a deadbolt on - we would put it on our side of the door since we are allowing strangers into our home as guests?! We met your family at the onset of their stay when they had an issue in their luggage - did we appear as hosts you needed to be deadbolted against? Why would we jeopardize our potential for more guests? We've never had that happen in three years of hosting and have earned SuperHost ratings on other venues consistently during those three years. Remember - We also went out of our way to try to accommodate your family in your misunderstanding of when checkout was.

All the comforts of staying with a longtime friend

Staying at Don & Morna's places was like staying with an old friend...without having to stay up and socialize late at night...ha! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this quiet and serene property. This is part of Don & Morna's home and it feels as such. The bed was comfy. The drapes kept the rooms very dark. The neighborhood was quiet. The kitchen and bathroom were well apportioned. The hosts were very attentive and answered my texts within minutes. Is it a modern condo with all the latest appropriations? No. But if that's what you want, then you might want to look elsewhere! This is a comfy, homey, place where you can look out your window and see deer bedding down in the neighbor's backyard. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Disappointing two months

We took 30 photos we can send to show our concerns. We also communicated almost exclusively via texting, of which we kept copies. PROS: The A/C worked well, and Don said to use it as much as we wanted, because the weather was extreme. They provided a fan. The TV was adequate and the owners allowed us to use our Roku CONS: Shower floor ramp had exposed sharp edges. Don said to use the deck and BBQ, which was filthy, the propane tank covered with grease or other food. The deck had many layers of rotten wood. It was hazardous. We inquired about a privacy curtain in the kitchen, which Don denied. They asked to not wear shoes in the house, but the carpet was dirty so our feet got dirty. Toaster did not heat up at all and was supported on three legs, with the 4th one missing. We advised owner who replaced it with a used toaster that still had crumbs in it. A buildup of sludge in the Keurig caused coffee grounds to come out on top of the pods and into the coffee cup. I requested a $5 cleaning ball and my request was denied. We bought a new Keurig and Don took the unusable Keurig away. They supplied gallon jugs of water; but, the inside of the caps had rust and dirt on the interior. The love seat cushions had plywood under them. We put clothes on the bedroom closet shelf, only to find that the shelf was dirty and it transferred to our clothes. Owners said not to use Downy, and Morna would supply dryer balls. They didn't. THE KITCHEN: The pans had burned on food stuck on them. They were unusable and we bought new ones to use. The glass top burners were old, and heated and cooled slowly. Apparently previous occupants had used abrasive sponges or steel wool to clean them. No glass top cleaning product was supplied to us. The dishwasher did not clean sufficiently, and we washed dishes by hand in the sink. The front door weather strip came loose the first week and we reported it to the owners. They texted back, "Thank you for letting us know." We never heard any more about that. We laundered sheets, pillow cases, and mattress pad and pillow liner. There was dried blood on both the mattress pad and one pillow liner. The first time we saw it we tried to get the blood out, however the blood had obviously been there for quite some time. We never got the blood out. Bottom line: There were health hazards and physical hazards. Many of the appliances did not work. This may be acceptable for a one week stay. We expected better quality.

We are sorry your stay was so miserable. That was not our intentions. Obviously, all our previous guests have given us a 5 Star rating. Just for your information the carpets were professionally cleaned by ZEROEZ the week before your two month stay. Regarding the "dirt" - you do realize the time of year you were here is when the ponderosa pine tree pollen flows freely and it is nearly impossible to stay ahead of it until the season changes. Also, our area was fighting many fires which were close by - this leaves the air full of smoke dust residue - another reason for any "dirt". We are not making excuses - we are merely explaining how this could be. And did you use the vacuum cleaner we provided? Laundry balls - you never mentioned to us personally. The previous guests may have taken them - but we had a new set sitting here if you would have said something. The toaster is working fine in our own kitchen. The Keurig is working fine in our own kitchen, also. You said you were getting your Keurig out of storage. We wish we would have been more honest in how you left the apartment on the review but we cut you some 'slack' - We could go into all the myriads of "stuff" our family was enduring during your stay but that would only sound like excuses to you. We were greeted with soft music, sweet treats, and all amenities needed for our stay. This place is very roomy and comfortable. The best sleep we had on our trip. Even a radio to listen to some pleasant music. A roomy bathroom with ample supplies, including first aid items (should we have needed them). The right utensils and dishes to fix our breakfast. Not too far to a main commercial street. And a very peaceful, quiet neighborhood where we felt safe.

Home Base

We enjoyed all the amenities this property had to offer during our family visits in the area. We were warmly greeted directly by the owner and inside the unit with a sign, warmth and soft music. Sun & snow in Spokane

We enjoyed our VRBO stay, in a warm & comfortable apartment. The hosts were nearby and ready to deal with our questions, but they allowed us perfect privacy as well. The location was perfect for 30-minute trips to snowshoe on Mt. Spokane or for jaunts into town.

Don and I are empty nesters who do not like having an empty nest! We love our home. We love our neighborhood. And we love people!
Don is native to Spokane - so if you need any history of the area he can tell you! Don works at one of the Middle Schools in our area.
I, Morna, was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana - came to the big city Spokane to get an education and found a husband in the process!
We have always had an active home life and still do with our adult children and grandchildren. We have lived in Spokane for over 35 years after a time living in Anchorage, Alaska and Whitefish, Montana in the early years of our marriage.

Why they chose this property

Don is a city boy. I, Morna, am a country girl. This home is our compromise! I love going out on the deck and smelling the pine trees, watching the deer play in our back yard - and eat my garden/flowers - and feeding the squirrels. Don loves talking to the neighbors over the fence or snow-blowing neighbors driveways for them! We purchased this property in the height of having a house full of teenagers. We loved having the mother in law apartment with the hopes of taking care of our parents eventually. So far that has not happened! But in over 20 years of being here this is the first time the apartment has been empty!
Our neighborhood is a perfect place for a run or a walk and you will often see people doing just that - especially when the sun shines!

What makes this property unique

We have loved the flexibility of our home - from our changing family needs to our changing economic needs to our ability to be a safe place for new friends! We are close to shopping, restaurants, Costco and can easily go to a lake nearby via Hwy 395 or Hwy 2.
We love the four distinct seasons of our area. Come enjoy with us!
