Welcome to Sugar Mountain Escape!
Sugar Mountain Escape is a charming two (2) bedroom mountain cottage located near the top of Sugar Mountain, only minutes away from the slopes of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, and convenient to downtown Banner Elk, Grandfather Mountain, Seven Devils, Ski Beech, Valle Crucis, and both Boone and Blowing Rock.
*You can walk to the slopes or enjoy the convenience of 'virtual slope side' service via the Sugar Ski Resort Shuttle! The Sugar Mountain Ski Resort shuttle will pick you up at the property, drop you off at the slopes during the ski season, and return you to Sugar Mountain Escape when desired. Walk to the slopes and shuttle back, shuttle to the slopes and walk back, or take the shuttle both ways - it is up to you!
Sugar Mountain Escape has year-round, unobstructed mountain views that will not disappoint. The master suite, on the main level, features a King bed, an HD Smart TV, and glass doors leading to a quiet rear deck. The ensuite master bathroom features a large step-in shower.
At nearly 5000 feet in elevation, Sugar Mountain Escape rarely needs air conditioning. There are a few portable air conditioning units that adequately cool a large room or area.
The main floor is an open-concept living room featuring soaring vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, a wood-burning fireplace, and an HD Smart TV. The living room is adjacent to the kitchen, which features granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a center island with a live-edge wood slab top. The dining area accommodates up to eight (8) guests. The den, located off the living room, provides a second area on the main level for relaxation and entertaining. It features many windows that allow natural light and provide a mountain view. The den has another HD Smart TV and ample comfy furniture. A sleeper sofa on the main level can sleep two (2) more guests. There is a hallway half bathroom on the main level as well.
Upstairs is an open loft with a cozy table and chairs for games and puzzles. A queen pull-out in the loft can accommodate two (2) guests. The full bathroom upstairs has a tub/shower combo. Past the open loft area is a queen bedroom with vaulted ceilings, an HDTV with a Smart BluRay player for watching DVDs, BluRay discs, and accessing all of your cable programming as well as Netflix and other Smart TV options.
A main-level front porch offers a peaceful, shaded place to enjoy the outdoors. The back deck on the main level boasts mountain views and looks down to the mature woods rolling down and away from the back of the house. Here you will find a gas grill. A lower-level platform deck features the hot tub. Sugar Mountain Escape allows pets, specifically dogs, with a maximum of two (2) per household and a strict 45-pound weight limit per dog. Standard pet fees will apply.
Sugar Mountain Escape is near the top of Sugar Mountain, a long walk (less than 1/2 mile) or a short drive (less than 3 miles to the main parking area) to the slopes of Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. Although near the top, the house is conveniently located near all there is to do in the High Country.

*The garage is kept locked for owner storage and is not accessible to guests. *The driveway at Sugar Mountain Escape is a downhill, gravel driveway. It offers plenty of parking. However, if you do not have a 4WD or all-wheel drive vehicle, we encourage you to keep your vehicle parked at the top of the driveway, as it is challenging to get out from the bottom of the driveway with the gravel and its grade unless you have 4-wheel or all-wheel drive. If you have a rear-wheel drive vehicle, we suggest you back in and keep it toward the top of the driveway. If you have a front-wheel-drive vehicle, we recommend you pull in facing down but keep it toward the top of the driveway.

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Beautiful, spacious, close to top of lift, owner was communicative. We loved it.
We came for a week to hike and relax. We had great weather (75 one day and snow the next!) which made it interesting, but the house had everything we needed and it was a great location.

Thats so awesome to hear! Thank you for your business and allowing us to provide a backdrop for what sounds like a great time. Take care and we hope a revisit is in the works.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, the location was excellent, the house was well kept and neat, especially considering it's pet friendly. We enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace in the cold weather. We would definitely visit again

Thank you for your review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Sugar Mountain Escape. We hope you are able to visit the High Country again soon and that you will allow us to host you again!
What a great location and view from the balcony! House had all the basics to cook. Could use some update on cutlery and utensils. Close to grocery store, ski slopes of Sugar Mtn. and Banner Elk. Great place to take older teens with separate living spaces. Our dogs enjoyed it too. Thank you for sharing your home!
My family had a wonderful time at this property. Everything was as advertised and the surrounding neighborhood was so nice. What amazing views! The hot tub and game room were a hit. We loved eating breakfast by the big window, where we were joined by a family of deer almost every morning!
We enjoyed our stay at this property in Sept. It had an exceptional TV (with cable for us who have not cut the cord) in the lovely sun room. Much better than most places we have rented. The master bed was extremely comfortable. It was roomy, especially for 2 people. I thought it in desperate need of a thorough cleaning. There is clutter in every closet, light bulbs in need of replacement, and an overall feeling of dust and grime.
Our listing was not accurate through VRBO, so be sure to check the property manager's website for all details. The VRBO listing did NOT mention the steep, gravel driveway. This was particularly troublesome for my husband's bad knees. It also did NOT indicate the AC are portable units in 2 rooms only. But we love Sugar Mtn and the outdoor deck was magnificent. Overall, I would recommend this property.
Enjoyed staying in your beautiful home for 3 weeks. Sugar Mountain is convenient to groceries, restaurants, hardware store and downtown Banner Elk. It was a wonderful vacation. Thanks.

Great stay!
We loved our stay at Sugar Mountain Escape! We felt very at home and comfortable! The hot tub was very clean as well as the rest of the home! We loved the wood burning fireplace and that we could bring our Boston terrier Scout with us! The driveway is very steep and we had 16 inches of snow during our stay and it was not accessible so be aware in winter months! You will have to haul your stuff down the driveway even if you have a 4x4 vehicle! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely book again!
Driveway was super icy and no where to park on street so had to get very creative. Overall great stay. Some more cleaning Needed done.

Kitchen Needs skillet and pans to cook with. Had only 1 regulr glass to drink out of. So I just bought Solo cups. Truly enjoyed our stayed. The one thing that I think needs to be followed up on is the housekeeping. I know the owners pay and expect a good job. the house is very dusty. I cleaned the top of Refrig and electric baseboards etc. The kitchen table was dirty with dried mustard and bread crumbs. But I was prepared and took my own Lysol and cleaned We did have a great time and enjoyed the house and all the snow. THanks to the owners for sharing their home with us

Cabin was great. Plenty of room for our group. Beautiful views. Conveniently located close to ski slopes. Only wish there was a Christmas tree, but in their defense we were warned there may not be.

We had the best time at Sugar Mountain Escape. We had everything we needed for a cozy autumn retreat watching the leaves fall. With a Lowe's food 2 miles away we stocked up on food and spent most of our trip in the hot tub and on the amazing patio.

Great stay
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sugar Mountain Escape. The views were spectacular. The furnishings were comfortable, especially the master bed. The cabin itself was well appointed. We would love to stay here again as it felt very homey. The only drawbacks would be the mild mildewy smell present and large presence of dust attached to the textured walls.
We found CCR very helpful and responsive to our needs and questions.

Great place! Good kitchen and awesome hot tub.
but BRING YOUR OWN POOL CUES if you were planning on playing pool.
the table is fine but all of the pool cues were in terrible shape. The tips of all of the sticks were missing.
enjoyed this stay.

Nice Stay
We selected this cabin because we wanted a pool table, hot tub and needed to sleep 6. We enjoyed our stay and the amenities and supplies were adequate.
Would have been nice to have a third bedroom. Due to openness of the loft it was noisy for those sleeping there.
The cabin could use a deep clean. There were cobwebs and dust on many surfaces. I cleaned high touch areas with Lysol wipes upon our arrival and ended up with visible dirt on the wipes.

We enjoyed our stay, but just a couple of things we want to point out. The owners need to replace the pots and pans. The coating on them was nearly gone and unsafe to use. A good set is needed in order to cook meals. The other thing was the place was very dusty, all the TV stands very dusty and all window sills were very dusty too, noticed that because when we opened windows it was apparent. Some dishes were dirty in the cabinets when we went to use them. A very convenient location and awesome views. Love the family room addition.

Loved Sugar Mountain Escape ! We did not need the WiFi, however, were provided with the WiFi information without a password.
The property was accurately represented and delightfully appointed. Sufficient pillows and blankets. Really enjoyed having two living rooms, separated by a glass sliding door. Kids and adults could be separated for movie-watching. Kids loved the hot tub.
We needed a few things for our 4-5 day stay: more than 1 toilet paper role per bathroom, more than 3 packets of dishwasher detergent (we prepared all meals at the house, for 8 people), laundry detergent, plastic garbage bags to line the can, a few more kitchen towels. Highly functional house.
