About the host
Hosted by Susan Moffett Barrick
We are Chuck Barrick and Susan Moffett, currently residing in Long Beach, California. Both of us have imaginations to infinity and are skilled in ways that allow us to put our dreams into action. Susan is a professional garden/landscape designer and equally as enthusiastic about interiors. While Chuck's "desk job" has him piddling around on computers helping folks go paperless, he spends a majority of his free-time adjusting and implementing his and Susan's ideas to perfection! While Susan paints, makes curtains and works in the garden, Chuck is usually building something, plumb and level. Together we are quite the power duo when it comes to creating magical atmospheric spaces for others to enjoy.
Why they chose this property
It was love at first sight when our Uncle Dave first spotted this house up on the bluff while crossing the I-86 bridge over Table Rock Lake back in 2003. Although he couldn't imagine leaving his loft in downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas his favorite place in the whole world, he still wanted to call this house his own and so he bought it. He never moved in, but he was very proud of his house, making sure to have a fresh flag waving above it at all times, and perpetually remodeling it to perfection. During our biannual visits, Uncle Dave always took us on a drive to the house and we'd marvel at the sunset together from the balcony. So when Uncle Dave passed away three years ago and left us his dream house, the inception of "Dave's Eureka" began in our hearts and imaginations.
What makes this property unique
Uncle Dave was quite the collector; three storage units filled with stained glass, Victorian furniture, prints, photographs, paintings, pottery, bronze sculptures, and historical collectibles from Kansas City (his home town) to Eureka Springs and the roads between. We couldn't keep it all, but layer by layer we went through it and kept those we felt were most special. As we brought them to the house, there seemed to be a predestined wall or nook for each of the pieces we chose to keep and during this process Dave's Eureka was conceived! Among the artists displayed in Dave's Eureka are bronze sculpture Mark Hopkins, glass sculpture Ed Pennebaker, and painters Raymer, James Yale, G. Duncan, William Steiner, W. Farris, Larry Mansker and Julie Kahn Valentine, most of which are local artists of northeast Arkansas.
