About this property

Gnome away from home

Gnomaste y'all! Welcome to our little piece of paradise! Located perfectly between Knoxville and Chattanooga this little cottage gives you access to everything the area has to offer. There is so much hiking, boating, fishing, etc nearby it is impossible to list it all. Enjoy the rural setting with gorgeous sunrises/sunsets along with the amazing night sky! All are welcome we can't wait to meet you!

The guest cottage/tiny home are yours to enjoy. Please also feel free to wander around the property which is mostly fenced.

Please note we do live on site and run a small hobby farm. There are chickens, peafowl, honey bees, goats, and dogs on the property along with whatever other animals wander this way. We are not responsible for any accidents involving wandering the yard. This may include tripping, running into a thorn bush or poisonous plant, seeing a cute animal you fall in love with, having a dog run up to you to say hello, finding an egg the chickens have stowed away, being followed by Apollo the peacock, getting a little too close the hive and being stung, etc.

For anyone with a bee or bird fear please let me know ahead of time. I cannot control the bees but they are kept tucked far away from the cottage and beyond possibly seeing one on a flower they are not a bother to guests in any way. The peacock does have a tendency of not respecting personal space and sometimes mistaking shoes/toes for food. He's friendly but not exactly the brightest. If you are not comfortable with him following you around the yard or possibly pecking you out of curiosity give me a heads up and I will keep him tucked away in his pen.

The chickens are free range. If you have such a fear of birds that this bothers you then our cottage may not be the best fit for your stay.

We are open to as much or as little interaction as you prefer. We live on site but come and go frequently. You may see us hanging around or we might be out having an adventure (or just working). Regardless we are always available by phone or email.

Generally speaking we allow self check in and check out. If you would like us to greet you please let me know and I will do my best to make that possible.

Within an hour you can be in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Tellico Plains, Ocoee etc. Within 1.5 hours you can be in the Smoky mountain national park or nearby in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg for any tourist activity you can imagine. Sweetwater itself is home to a beautiful downtown! We are minutes away from Watt's bar along with SO many outdoor activities! Just a lovely country setting to relax and recharge.

Inside the cottage we have local recommendations for food, drinks, drives, and attractions. A couple of them are listed below :)

Bigfoot outfitters - Benton, TN AMAZING rafting center with great guides <3

Cup Runneth Over - Sweetwater, TN great coffee, wonderful owners, and such a nice setting

Iron Works Grille - Tellico Plains TN is a great little place to sit by the river, have some food, grab a drink, etc

Friendly falls food and stuff - Wears Valley TN is another great little roadside stop. Gem mining, drinks, snacks, amazing owners, and beautiful views <3

Fun getaway on the farm
So much fun! For us the best part of the stay was the animals. We were able to hand feed the goats. The alpacas are so soft and the chickens, ducks and guineafowl were delightful. The cows on the next property over were entertaining as well. The bees were pretty low key due to the time of year that we visited. The house has everything you need to be comfortable. Instant hot water and nice water pressure. The heat and ac work well. The kitchen had all the comforts of home that you can plug in. Fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, utensils and most importantly coffee makers (both coffee pot and kureg). The house was perfectly clean. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows. The host was quick to reply to any question we had and she even did little extra things to make our stay wonderful. We brought a 70 lb dog with us and he had the time of his life. Outside there is a nice porch with a beautiful view of the sunset. Fire pit and hammocks are available in the yard. There is a basketball hoop. It's a lovely property with lots to walk around and see. I can't wait to come back again.

Great get away
My wife and I stayed here with our dogs and it was perfect one night stay. Their farm is beautiful, the cottage was plenty spacious and very clean, and our pups even got to make some new friends with the goats and cows roaming around the property.

We had a wonderful time, visiting with the animals and wandering the property. Everything you need is in the cottage and all questions were answered promptly! The perfect place to get away from it all!

Wonderfully peaceful getaway
The cottage on Casey’s property was charming and perfect for our needs. We love living minimally, so the studio layout was great. We brought a foam mattress for our daughter. Even though the cottage is near Casey’s home, we felt relaxed and had privacy throughout our stay. Casey’s thoughtful touches like fresh cut flowers and farm eggs made us feel right at home. Our daughter especially loved seeing the animals and petting/feeding the goats! We were able to visit our family in Rockwood and explore some local attractions like The Lost Sea underground lake, the Duck Park, and Knoxville Botanical Gardens. We had a lovely time and miss it already!

A little piece of heaven
Great place to relax while watching the farm animals graze; the neighborhood dog chase and herd the farm animals. The backyard views are amazing! Close to Sweetwater historic town. Yurt in the back near a body of water looks like heaven also. Ive already recommended this place to family. We plan on revisiting!

About the host

Host profile image
Hi there! Our family moved to east Tennessee after years of dreaming of living near the mountains. We are all nature lovers and enjoy every little thing this area has to offer. We are extensive travelers and look forward to new adventures. We purchased this property in 2019 and at that time it was in pretty sad shape. The trees had recently been harvested and the property was a bit of a mess. We have slowly began replanting and cleaning up as time allows while continuing to grow our hobby farm. We are thrilled to be able to share our space with others <3

Why they chose this property

We have always dreamed of living in a log home but also have been fascinated with going tiny. This property gave us the best of both worlds. We live in the main home and share out tiny home/cottage with guests. This property also is in such an ideal setting for anyone wanting to unplug and relax. Beyond that we have been given the opportunity to take a property that had not previously been respected and make it beautiful once again.

What makes this property unique

Here at a Gnome Away From Home guests have the unique opportunity to interact with our free range chickens, goats, duck, peafowl, etc. on a daily basis. You are welcome to collect fresh eggs for your own use and to wander the property. During the warm months you are also welcome to help out in the garden or simply pick your own fresh produce. Star gazing at night is beyond incredible and beauty truly surrounds the entire property.
