About this property

Rustic River Cabin under the Oaks and just a short walk to the river.

Come enjoy the peace and quiet of the Texas Hill Country, while relaxing in the cool waters of the Dry Frio River. This cabin is nestled under a canopy of live oak trees and just a short walk to the river. The Dry Frio River gets its name from the fact that the spring fed river meanders under the rocks at times, giving the appearance of a dry creek bed. This means the water is always cold, even in the hot summer months!
The air conditioned cabin has a simple, rustic feeling. The family room has high ceilings with comfy leather sofa and loveseat. The fully equipped kitchen has an electric stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, and plenty of cookware. The cozy master bedroom has a stone fireplace and a queen-size bed, with room for a portable crib if needed. The spacious bathroom has a lovely clawfoot bathtub/shower. There is loft area with two full-size beds and a beautiful view of the huge live oak trees.
Outside there is ample seating on the covered porch and around the fire-pit. A charcoal grill is available for those outdoor cook-outs. Just down the road, a short walk, is a community park area with a covered pavilion and outdoor activities. Wi-Fi is also available at the park area.
This is a great place for star gazing, hiking, fishing, swimming, nature watching, unwinding and making memories.

***This is the Texas Hill Country, complete with all the critters, big and small. Please bring appropriate protection, (bug spray, water shoes, hats, sunscreen, etc) to ensure you have a safe trip. Remember to respect the land, water, animals, and the people who reside here, but most of all enjoy the simple peace and quiet it has to offer.

Overall a nice place to stay. My complaint would be that we attempted to make a meal using the pots and pans but found them to be pretty dirty and/or broken. My recommendation would be to get rid of them and just tell guests to bring their own equipment. We also noticed some mouse droppings but I will give it some grace due to the location and rustic nature of the home.

Frio 2021

We loved our stay. The house was so cute and away from the crowds. It was only about 20-30 minutes away from all the activities which we did not mind at all. We loved the peace and quiet at Ceilo Frio Ranch

As a family we were seeking seclusion with some access to nearby water recreation, and this property delivered. Owners rightly advertise it as rustic, so there was evidence of that: A dead scorpion on a bathroom shelf overlooked by housekeeping before our arrival, a lack of any hot water for dishwashing (thankfully there was a kettle for boiling water). There was, however, plenty of hot water and great water pressure in the bathroom for showers. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked in terms of cookware serving dishes. Overall it was a really great place to be.

The bathtub was a mess. It had standing water in it. I wouldn’t even bathe the whole 4 days we were there. Other than that it was ok. Missed having water to get into.

Quite and relaxing rustic cabin!!!

Family enjoyed the cabin !! Loved the outside area with the deer and all. Went hiking and fishing. Nice weekend getaway from all the same weekly routine. The living room area just needs a little more cleaning and just to be aware you need to bring your trash with you afterwards. Other than that, the place is nice for a rustic theme cabin which i enjoyed. I loved the fireplace especially the one in the living room and you can take your pets with you which is awesome. Would totally recommend it. Thank you!

Off the Beaten Path-no cell service

This little cabin is quaint, Cozy and off the beaten path. With it being off the beaten path, it is probably super important for you to know if there’s no cell service. They do have Wi-Fi, but receiving calls is a no go. Which, makes it for a nice relaxing getaway. Truly a place to unplug. The river water was low, but the deer and wildlife make up for it. The AC work great both upstairs and downstairs. We did encounter a scorpion, but it is a country cabin. The property owner, K, is extremely responsive to communication and more than happy to help. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.

Time Away at the Rustic River Cabin

This little cabin was more than enough for my girlfriend and I. We enjoyed walking the river banks and even getting into the beautiful, clear water (up to our knees-a bit chilly). The area that the cabin is in is VERY quiet. The cabin itself is cozy, clean, and comfortable. Each evening, we sat out back and threw deer corn out for deer who came within 5 and 6 feet of us. (Bring your own corn!) We used the grill that is supplied at the cabin and enjoyed eating outside under the beautiful oak trees. We loved the solitude and peacefulness of this place. Kay has done a great job of refurbishing this cabin and allowing it to be rented out. We will be back!

Come Prepared

There was no mention in the description that the cabin had no heat other than space heaters. It was so cold and uncomfortable, I had to leave a day early. Also remember, if you want a fire in the fireplace, bring starter log and lighter. Also there should be some instructions for working the TV as I could not get it to come on.

We’ve stayed at this ranch before and loved it so we returned and used a different property. Unfortunately we were not as happy, however, here are some of our pros and cons. Pros: beautiful location and surroundings, right next to the river (if it’s flowing) but Garner State Park is not too far and that was awesome! AC cools properly and you have enough space to stretch out and relax. Saw lots of wildlife around and on the drives in and out. Beds fairly comfortable. Living area spacious. Grill and outside area nice and on backside of house for when the heat is greatest and blocks the sun! Cons: a bit dirty in some spaces, trash was left from cleaning lady forgetting new AC box, water heater didn’t work the whole time, kitchen is a bit old but mostly functional, steps to lift were odd so be careful. The bathtub didn’t drain well due to the floor underneath so that was a concern for cleanliness. Communications with host was tricky due to no cell service and limited WiFi. Because of the state park we had a reasonably wonderful time. This was my experience and the host did communicate after we left to compensate and resolve some issues. My suggestion is know as much going in to reservations before booking.

Wife and I had a great time at the Rustic River Cabin. It's private, remote and perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although there is Wifi at the pavillion, be prepared to disconnect from it all.

Quaint and Rustic--Loved Every Minute of IT!

This was a very unique experience and I'm glad we did it. This is a very rustic cabin. I felt like we were frontier living! (But with a working stove, AC, and running water.) My girls were squeamish, but they are spoiled city kids. LOL. We didn't encounter any scorpions (thank God) but there are spiders outside the property. You're in nature! All joking aside, it was quiet, restful. A bit of a drive from Concan, (about 15 miles/20 minutes) but after the second night we were thankful were weren't right off of 83. We saw deer, turkey, birds, an armadillo and a majestic buck strutted across the field when we were leaving. Yes, I would go back and stay again, but maybe without my teens. (Enough said about that situation...) They kept wanting to go to Sonic, and the nearest one is Uvalde. You go here to GET AWAY FROM IT ALL! Would be a great honeymoon spot. Be sure to take your own water and ice.

I’m sure you won’t want to publish this review because we were very disappointed. we cut our stay to just one night. the Devore was lovely, the smell of the cabin was awful. It smelled as though a fire was started in the den fire pit then some meat far was poured on it and to quench the fire large amounts of water was poured on it creating s most awful smell. I went to fix dinner that evening and all the dishes were grease foggy. I would have had to scrub the counters, the microwave and the stovetop in addition to the sink. I didn’t come expecting to scrub a kitchen. The only things that were clean were the bedrooms and bathroom, The loft bedroom stairway was so steep my daughter slept on the couch. It was a misfortune as we were looking forward to being in the country air.

Cozy cabin

It’s an older cabin with a cozy feel. It was very secluded as the other 3 cabins next to it didn’t have anyone staying there. The dry Frio was dry but there was a nice watering hole right behind the cabin.

Our family has been making the trip from Houston for 50+ years. My father and his brother since the 40's. It is a hike, but once you are here and can turn everything else off, it is the best therapy available.

Why they chose this property

It is a small, usually quiet community. I like the fact that I can come here and feel like I am the only one out here!

What makes this property unique

My cabin is situated under a canopy of oak trees which makes it quite cool, even in the hot summer months. There is a trail down a small slope that leads to the river. There are NO homes in between the cabin and the river. The deer make their appearance most every night as they come out of the fields down to the river. Shake a little deer corn for them and they practically come running!
