Located on the third floor of the former home of Herman Wells’ fraternity in the 1920’s. It is rich with Bloomington history. The windows offer great views of Kirkwood Ave and the IU campus. The Rooftop is the sole apartment in the building. It is uniquely situated above retail shops, a restaurant, and a coffee house.

It is a 3-minute walk to "Nick's English Hut" - an IU hotspot. The downtown square is 3 blocks away, replete with more restaurants, shops and bars.

This large, private, light-filled top floor unit offers the following:

Fantastic brand new place right in the heart of town on Kirkwood. Very comfortable and well appointed with everything you need. Visited for Dad’s weekend and will be back again for sure. Great hosts and everything exactly as expected.

Rooftop is amazing!

Our stay at the Rooftop was lovely. Location is perfect for all things IU and Bloomington! The property is beautiful and every single thing you could ever need is provided. There is so much space and it is well decorated and designed. Check-in was a little more difficult than it needed to be, but overall a great place to stay!

Great location and very comfortable!

Dori should teach a master class on how to run a short term rental. No detail that could make our stay better or more comfortable was missed, and everything we needed as out of town guests were provided: From comfortable bedding, to extra toiletries and snacks to designated parking was provided. And the location is perfect for proximity to all the Downtown restaurants and retail shops and close to the Sample Gates. We loved everything about our stay!

Fun IU football weekend!

The location of this quaint apartment is great. Located on Kirkwood where all the action is happening, yet mostly quiet at night. Two parking spots and a nice coffee shop, donut shop, etc. below the space. The bedrooms were very nice and the small touches the owner added are great and much appreciated (ie. water/coke in fridge, snacks in a basket, toiletry items in case you forgot, etc.). Beds were very comfortable and TV easy to work. You do need to be able to climb stairs to get to this unit, but it's worth it.

Location, cleanliness, furnishings all fine - having to strip beds & haul bedding & towels along w/emptying all trash cans & bring down stairs unexpected & an unnecessary nuisance after all the fees.

Why they chose this property

This property is an iconic fixture in the heart of downtown Bloomington. It is chock full of history from the city itself and from Indiana University. The former president of Indiana University, Herman Wells, used to call this property home. It held his fraternity in the 1920's. It is constructed from Bloomington quarried limestone, which has great historical significance in Bloomington. The Rooftop was a big jump at one of the local quarries and was made famous in the movie, " Breaking Away". We thought it was the perfect name for our quintessentially Bloomington space.

What makes this property unique

The apartment is in the heart of downtown Bloomington, close to shopping, restaurants and bars. It is steps away from all that the downtown has to offer. It is one block away from Bloomington's "International Restaurant Row" and minutes away from unique, locally owned art, gift and clothing boutiques. All that is needed is just a walk away.
