Great repeat visit. We stayed in the winter 2024 and came back again in the summer 2025. Property is great in all seasons! Plenty of room for a family dinner.

Family vacation

We loved our stay, we felt so comfortable and right at home. This is a beautiful old house with so much room. The view of the pond from the dinning room and the decks is wonderful and relaxing. Our boys fished everyday and night, they caught a few fish. They got a kick out of the pedal boat. It was a great vacation and we would definitely stay again

The Hutch House is exactly as described. Richard and Marsha were quick to respond during the booking process and during our stay. The little pond was a great source of entertainment for everyone: from fishing to riding in the boats. My 13 year old daughter caught her first large mouth bass and loved feeding the turtles! We also caught lots of large bluegill and the hybrid bluegills were a surprise with their blue and purple coloring. There was plenty of space for our family of 9 to roam outside or chill inside. The kitchen and pantry were stocked with everything needed for cooking, lots of coffee options, and grilling items. We also loved the fire pit!We will definitely book again!!

Family Gettaway

We met family to spend early holidays together. It was nice to have a quiet place to retreat to for few days. We cooked and appreciated having the best stocked kitchen we’ve stayed at ever. The holiday decorations were also a nice touch. Thank you!

Cozy remote working

This cabin was a fantastic location to work remotely in a relaxing atmosphere. The hosts thought of everything for us and were easy to communicate with. As someone from a rural area I appreciated that they promoted the area's small town businesses to visit during our stay.

Great Private Getaway

We enjoyed our visit at this cabin! It is a great property. The dining room windows give a great view of the pond, and the main floor deck overlooks it as well. Due to property size, it was just us and nature. Our small dog enjoyed the freedom of being able to go around off leash. Would stay here again!

The Perfect Getaway

The Hutch cabin is a great place to go with your family to get away. We just spent the weekend there celebrating our Christmas. It had everything you needed and the Property manager was so helpful. It is out in the country but not too far from the city. Great place to rest and relax.

Little slice of Heaven

We had such a great weekend at the Hutch House. Didn’t need to leave because everything was there already. Fishing, walking the property and the fire pit at night. Such a beautiful home and property. We will definitely be back, and will recommend the home to friends and family.

Paradise in the country

Second time we have stayed there this year. It's the perfect place to unwind. The history behind this log cabin is amazing! You have to see it to believe it. We can't wait to get back again. The hosts are fantastic! Richard's story of the history and moving this house is spectacular. We always have a great conversation together. It's an absolute gem.

Family

We had a great time. The grandsons would not stop fishing , they even found a 200 year old treasure chest from a map they found in the old tree. It was an exciting time. Thank you for a great getaway. We caught 22 bluegills, 1bass , 1 small turtle and 1 big snapping turtle that are still thriving in the pond.

Perfectly Peaceful

Everything about our stay at the Hutch House was perfect. The property is clean and well-stocked with just about anything you would need. The owners even left a few of the most delicious, homegrown tomatoes - we enjoyed every bite. Our dog loved wandering the property, and we spent every morning and evening outside relaxing by the pond and enjoying nature. We could not stop talking about how quiet and peaceful it was, while still being a convenient distance to stores and restaurants. We are already planning a return visit for next year.

Perfect getaway

We enjoyed the stay so much!! Everything was perfect. The seclusion, yet close to shopping, etc. Richard was so informative of the history of the log cabin. I say log cabin, but it is not your typical log cabin. The place is way bigger than the pictures show. Peace and quiet to the max. Our dog loved romping around the entire property on our long walks. We cannot wait to go back to unwind again.

Will stay again!

Beautiful house and property. By far the easiest check in experience and well stocked house we have ever booked. The birthday balloon and cupcakes left for our daughter was a nice surprise. The house is exactly as it looks in pictures. Very clean. The property is beautiful! We were able to watch the resident beaver in the pond collect sticks. Many visits from geese and ducks. Our son loved the tree swing. Close enough to small towns and Indianapolis but far enough away you can't even tell your near a big city. Definitely will stay again. So serene and relaxing!

Perfect stay! Amazing hospitality!

We have used vacation rentals all over the country from Alaska to Florida. Richard was the MOST gracious host we have ever encountered (and we have had amazing hosts!) We so appreciated the staples in the refrigerator for our use after our late night arrival and the little touches to make guests feel very welcome. We were grateful for his flexibility when we needed to add a day and loved hearing the history of the home when we chatted over the phone. The property is just lovely. We enjoyed the amazing colors on the lake at sunset. The home has a cabin feel while still having modern conveniences and updates. The home was also impeccably clean, a blessing during this pandemic. It was a perfect place for our family to stay social distanced while moving our daughter to Indianapolis. We hope to return.

Fun family vacation

We were in Indianapolis for a Youth Bowling tournament for 2 of our kids. We rented instead of going to a hotel and being cooped up with 6 of us plus 2 dogs. This cabin was awesome! It is 15-20 minutes from almost everything! Haha. We got to visit all our stops and still enjoy down time fishing and playing games at the cabin. We underestimated the sleeping arrangements but worked it out. Inside was SO clean and welcoming! We had no issues inside. Only wish the outside got the TLC the inside gets. I think we would have enjoyed more fishing if the grass wouldn't have been so long so we could spot the snakes easier and bushes maintained a bit better, landscaping just needs some TLC. Didn't use the fire pit again because of snakes around it, kinda wish it was down in the area by the cabin and lake more. But Richard is amazing to work with and we will definitely be back in a few years when we return for another bowling tournament.

Our family had a great time at the house! If you like history, nature, and staying at a place where you want to enjoy doing things with your family on location rather than having to drive different places and paying more money, than this is the place! Campfires, playing board games, fishing , exploring, that's what a family vacation is to me and this house delivers. We had everything we needed and were very greatful to have the opportunity to stay and this home.we have stayed at plenty VRBO homes in Indiana and Kentucky, and my kids said this was there favorite yet! Thanks so much for the memories!

The cabin is minutes from Indy, but it seems as quiet as a cabin in the woods. The pond is right outside the lower level door. The kitchen is well stocked and clean. The kitchen table has a view of the water. Bedrooms and bathrooms are all very clean and comfortable. It was a return trip for us and we would stay here again.

Why they chose this property

We located this original hand hewn log home in southern Indiana and learned that it was built in 1817. it was soon to be destroyed by the owner, as it had become a safety hazard.. To salvage and preserve this important bit of history, we took the home apart log by log and transported it in late 1972 to its present location . After two years of construction it became livable in the fall of 1974. You will find a picture album in the home showing how the home was disassembled, transported and rebuilt at the present location. Although the house has retained the original footprint, the interior has been updated two times since the reconstruction; the latest was completed early this year of 2019. After 45 years of living here, we have decided to open the home for more people to experience just a bit of history in this modern environment.
