Sunset Lakehouse Rules and Guidelines:
By renting this cottage, you have agreed to adhere to the expectations listed below. Please read and ensure a strong understanding by all guests. The #1 rule is to keep the cottage clean and tidy upon checkout.
1) Check-in time: 4:00 p.m sharp. Earlier arrival is subject to a fee. We manage our cottage remotely with 1 outdoor SECURITY SURVEILLANCE. Once arrived the camera is turned off and then on again upon check out. Guests have the right to turn off the system as well but we do ask to have it turned on upon check out to ensure cleaners arrive on time.
2) Arrival Inspection: Please do an inspection of the home upon arrival. If any items are broken or not working at the cottage at time of check-in, please report within 2 hours after arrival. Service times in rural areas are longer than in the city. Advanced notice is more than necessary; especially if related to heat, water or electrical.
3) Accidents in the Cottage: we understand that accidents can happen at the cottage during your rental. If something breaks, please call or email us to inform us of the accident. This will allow us to make arrangements to have the broken item fixed or replaced.
4) Bbq: There is a bbq onsite with propane tanks available. Please be prepared to have them filled or replaced BEFORE using. Some guests have not been consistent in having them filled after use. To make it economical for all guests, we provide the tanks and payment will only be to fill.
NO foreign materials (e.g. wood, charcoal) in the bbq. Bbq grill should be cleaned/brushed after each use when grills are hot. Refills/replacement tanks could be purchased at Hoppy's Gas Bar, Roxy's, Stedmans and Foodland. All located just North on Hwy 6. There is a BBQ lighter/matches in the kitchen island or mantle to start the bbq.
5)Campfires: Please enjoy your recreational fire in the permanent fire pit areas. The zoning in our area allows you to burn outdoors 2 hours before sunrise and 2 hours after sunset.
7) Checkout time: 11:00 AM
8) Ceiling Fans: These items have been provided for your comfort. Please do not leave on and unattended while away from the cottage.
9) Blankets and Towels: GUESTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN blankets and towels. Our laundry facility is not industrial enough to clean all 7 bed sets in 3 hrs before next guests arrive. However, mattress protectors and fitted sheets are provided for all bedding along with 10 pillows with clean pillow cases available. The King size bed is an exception and has a full sheet set with king pillows.
FAQ: If you are travelling from overseas or find it difficult to bring your own towels and blankets, we do offer this service at a fee of $40US/room making it a total of $160. Please ask at time of reservation.
10) Although cleaning fees are included in your booking, we kindly ask you have the cottage in a neat and tidy fashion just as you entered.

12) Trespassers: We do not tolerate trespassers onto our cottage property. If there are suspected trespassers entering the lot from the road or into the cottage building please call OPP immediately in Wiarton. 24hr Non Emergency and Emergency 1-888-310-1122

13) Firewood: To help against the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer – Please buy firewood in neighbouring areas. 14) Fridge/Freezer: Upright fridge and separate deep freezer is available for your use. Please help yourself to any non perishable foods in cupboards. Replace if necessary.
15) Garbage: Take ALL recycling and garbage with you. Never leave garbage outside the cottage unless it is in a tightly covered container. Country critters (raccoons, bears, skunks) love garbage. Any garbage or recycling left at the cottage will result in a $60.00 disposal charge.

16) Heating: The cottage is heated by oil. The temperature can be adjusted manually located in the office.

We have flashlights and candles available. DO NOT RUN THE WATER. The water system operates on an electric pump and you may empty the water lines and end up without water until a service professional is available to prime the lines.
18) Insects and Wildlife: Insects (mosquitoes, earwigs, wood roaches ants, slugs etc.) and mice are very much part of cottage country. To discourage these pests, please endeavour to keep exterior screen doors closed at all times, do not leave damp or wet towels lying on decks/beach area or open food/crumbs on tables and counters.

Why they chose this property
The Bruce Peninsula is one of the very last places in Southern Ontario that has minimal light pollution, attracting thousands of outdoor enthusiasts who travel to escape the city lights and to enjoy its Caribbean-like waters, cliffs and starry skies. Be mindful of our beautiful, natural environment. Both of the Peninsula’s national parks are designated by the Royal Astronomical Society as Dark Sky Preserves, and the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is a dedicated Dark Sky community.

"Sunset Lakehouse is accurately depicted through it’s photos. You can expect to find everything you need and more. The interior layout is ideal. Each room has a different feel and each is separate from the other thereby feeling private. I would recommend one big/extended family over two families sharing because there is only one clear master bedroom and it will be coveted; So much so that my three kids gave up their rooms to sleep with me - And they’re not so little! The property itself is a dream. Visually separate from the respectful neighbours, peaceful, clear waters, a family of Canada geese, a heron, ducks, frogs, no motorboat traffic, shallow water activities plus deeper waters for swimming and paddling. Use of canoe, kayaks, SUPs, life jackets, and bikes. Being deep within the Dark Sky Preserve region you can see Jupiter, Saturn, all the Northern constellations, the milky way, and shooting stars. We also saw the International Space Station go by. All from the deck. A bike ride to Singing Sands, a short ride to Tobermory, many hiking trails, the Grotto, Cave Point, Lions Head, even the scene at Sauble Beach. What to be aware of? It’s a cottage and other people use it. There may be stains on the tea towels, tiny chips on a plate or two, something placed where you would not normally look for it, spider webs in the rafters outside. These “imperfections” will make for a perfectly relaxing holiday. You’ll feel immediately at home."
