Major Disappointment - Renter Beware
There were many miss steps with this property. First the owners did not send us the check in information. We began emailing and messaging then on our arrival at the airport. When all of our team had arrived, we drove to the property to find a "For Sale" sign in the yard. It had now been 4.5 hours since we first tried to contact the owners. We called the Real Estate Agent listed on the sign. Thankfully, even though he no longer represented the owners, he was able to get a message to the wife. We received a call from her about 10 minutes later. We entered the house to find the information on the site miss-leading. The Guest Front Bedroom, lists "Queen - Twin/single - sleep sofa/futon" We found a full size appearing bed and a futon. The other rooms did have "beds" as described. As this was a business trip, for a medical conference, we called the wife back to ask about the beds. She was defensive as she didn't even know we were coming. She said that her husband would call after 5. We waited in the house until he called. He was very angry having just had a "fight" with the wife. I told him that the bed situation was not like it was listed on the website. He was condescending and told me I should look at the pictures. I was told the "twin bed" for the "Guest Front Bedroom" was a mattress in the closet. I told him this was not what we had envisioned for our employees and that I'd like my money back. While on speakerphone he said that he would refund our money. He went on and on of how he was a physician, and that he'd had no complaints, etc. Upon returning home and filing for our refund, he now refuses, saying the house was "clean". We never spoke of the cleanliness of the home only the "beds". My company has been using VRBO for 8 years and this is the first time that a home has not been as advertised, It is certainly the first time that I've been yelled at by an owner. Four of my employees were shocked at the way he spoke to me. As for the cleanliness, being fall, there were leaves all over the front patio, back patio, and the pool was covered. Unfortunately, it appears that this couple isn't a good fit for the VRBO family as their unprofessional and rude attitudes as well as not keeping their word send the wrong message for VRBO, We were in the house less than 30 minutes, and the owner only refunded the "cleaning" deposit, instead of a full refund as promised. Instead I moved my staff to a hotel with multiple rooms.
