We couldn’t have asked for a nicer stay. The house, much bigger than expected, had everything a family might need during a vacation. Practical yet independent spaces for all, easy to come and go from everywhere, lots of kids’ space. And very well equipped. We cooked many dinners and the quality of the kitchen made this a pleasurable experience. The host is into every detail and facilitates your experience, from minute one of your enquiry until he finds whatever you forgot in his house and plans how to send it back. If you’re planning a family vacation I highly recommend this house.

About the host
Hosted by Jim Schoenburg
Originally from California, now residing in Brooklyn when not in Montauk (which is every chance we get).
25 years ago I discovered Montauk through a friend and fellow Angelino. For me, it's the closest approximation of the west coast that one can find in the north east, and I knew right away that I needed to be there.
Why they chose this property
Our family has enjoyed time together and with friends in this vacation home for a decade. We came upon it after spending the previous decade renting summer homes and keeping an eye out for properties that both captured our imagination and we could afford.
Just after the birth of our first daughter, we decided to buy a home in Montauk. After having a deal fall through on one house, we just happened to see this one. It was a bit odd: a log cabin in Montauk. But it had potential and great grounds, and it's located so conveniently near everything. So with quite a bit of work over time, we fixed it up. We put in new windows, lights, siding, carpets, and skylights. We finished the basement, renovated decks and built a giant patio with a giant fire pit and giant picnic table with a giant umbrella.
What makes this property unique
Now the house has a rather warm, unique blend of rustic log cabin furnished in a slightly mid-century modern fashion. It's set back from the street and surrounded by native vegetation for solid privacy. Skylights and windows let in the light and greenery. Kids have plenty of room to roam and run outside. The main deck and patio combine for a large entertaining space and the fire pit can accommodate at least 5 or 6 marshmallow-roasting s'more makers at a time.
It's super close to the beach, most reliable surf, and the state park for golf, tennis and swimming. It's just the right convenient distance from town and the marina.
We find it to be a very tranquil, comfortable place to live and relax. Deer wander by at twilight. Robins and Cardinals share the grounds with rabbits and an occasional Osprey. We're happy to share it with visiting families and vacationers eager to experience Montauk fully.
