About this property

Lake life is Calling

***2024 update***. We are currently undergoing an extensive landscaping project for the lakeside yard, we are adding steps/ grading for better accessibility down to lake, a boat house with above deck, firepit area above/ behind the boathouse. Photos will be updated once this Hardscape is mostly completed in the spring. Plantings will be ongoing throughout the summer and years to some with a focus on native and lake health. Fenced area has been removed permanently.

1 hr from the Twin Cities (give or take 15m). Our house is located on Big Lake, part of 3 refreshing lakes- Church Pine (170 acre), Round lake (60-80 Acres), and our Big Lake ( 245 acres). 2 boat landings, a underpass, and a chanel so pontoons and smaller boats can cruise all 3 lakes water levels permitting.

When the season permits, go for a swim, fish, relax, float, kayak, 20' lily pad, or canoe. Lots of games and puzzles. Shop the boutiques of Osceola or enjoy the falls, downhill ski or adventure park at Trollhaugen, Check out Taylors Falls ferry or 'pothole' Interstate Park. Fisherman often cruise our lakes with a popular route past our dock.

1 king bed and with a master bath, 2nd upper bed has queen bed. 1st floor bedrooms 1 has a Queen bed other with a twin over full bunk bed . Full size Pull Out in basement (sorry but not too comfortable). Our living room sofa is often a hit as it can comfortably fit 4-7 sprawled out adults.

LOTS of local ordinances (Laws). Polk County restricts our sleeping accommodations to 8 persons max regardless of age (no exception) and the number of humans allowed on our premises. We maintain a zero tolerance for violations of any laws on our property, including laws put into effect after booking.

We are a nature friendly lot so excuse our exterior spiderwebs and non grass yard. We do routine exterior cleanings in the spring and a few times mid summer. We try to balance human presence with critters of nature. I spend a bit of time maintaining our sandy swimming area to minimize the weeds in an eco friendly manner.

Awesome rental!

I rented this property for a ladies weekend, it was the perfect space for us to kick back and relax for a weekend! The living areas are so spacious and comfortably fit all 6 of us (could have easily accommodated 8). Would most definitely rent this home again and recommend it to others!

Good stay

Was a beautiful house on the lake. The deck and front door had a bunch of spider webs on the chairs and deck and hadn’t been swept in quite some time but other than that, the host was very accommodating.

Lake Life Beckons

This house was great for us! Loved having the elders on the upper floor and the 20-somethings on the main floor. Ping pong in the garage lounge was a blast, and countless games of cards were played in the sunroom. The lake views, old growth trees and a variety of beautiful birds make for a peaceful setting. Osceola is a cute town with a gorgeous waterfall right in the middle. Renting a "vintage" pontoon boat from Mork's Big Lake store was a favorite activity. This was a classic family summer vacation and we'd do it again.

Beautiful respite

Home was as expected and super clean. Our host made the process easy. We enjoyed the space, the lake and the quiet. Had a neighbor dog come over and interrupt family time but we called his owner who promptly picked him up. We enjoyed the ping pong table, grilling out and sitting on the deck and dock enjoying the lake.

Great quiet location on a lake

Great property with plenty of room for sleeping. We had 8 people total which worked out well. It was a bit of a drive but a very quiet and spacious location.

About the host

My family and I live in the Twin Cities. After renting a cabin on Big Lake from a family friend for the past 6 years, we did as most all of their renters have done, bought our 'cabin'. We had to figure out if we were lake people, well we are. We fell in love with our chain of 3 lakes, it just offered everything as proximity to the cities was an absolute spoiler and kinda a hidden secret. Really, it is a lake home but we like to call it our cabin. Our intent was to rent it because we are usually busy in the the cities but then Covid happened. After careful consideration, we have re-listed our lake home as we feel we can safely do so. As a ski family, an added perk is the proximity to Trollhaugen which is a local family run ski hill. Kids just did the rope course and loved it.

Why they chose this property

It is a hidden gem and being just one hour from the twin cities, give or take 5 to 15 minutes depending on which end. The lakes are just refreshing, with Church Pine getting an A+ rating, our lake blooms in August and is typically clear until then but still swimmable. Big enough to enjoy tubing or a cruise of the lakes in a Pontoon with the boat landing .3 miles walk on the main road but not as close via the lake. We love swimming and floating just off our shore. The mornings usually present with a glass lake ideal for a canoe or Kayak outing. Out and about surroundings offers so much adventure from Taylors Falls, Saint Croix and Osceola district offer much short outings. Trollhaugen has both summer and winter fun. Trollhaugen also offers night skiing and has a well established terrain park.

What makes this property unique

So close yet you feel like you are hours away from the cities. A busy day on the lake might mean a handful of speed boats with a constant circling of pontoons (be sure to wave at every boat) but nothing like what we see on more popular lakes. The place can easily sleep well over 8 but county ordinance allows only 8 max.
