About this property

Centrally located in the Tower Grove East neighborhood!

**Note: If you book for dates Oct 15-22 we are offering a 25% discount - because there will be zero to limited access of the front door (due to porch repairs), and you will need to use the rear entrance and backyard to enter & exit the property, which may be an inconvenience……. ……. The World's Fair Retreat will not only give you one of the most unique and enjoyable stays in the Midwest, but it will also take you back in time to 1904 when St. Louis was not only a major industrial empire, but a crown jewel of the ENTIRE WORLD - thanks to the 1904 World's Fair held in the Forest Park of St. Louis. This retreat is situated in the cozy and hip Tower Grove East neighborhood, where true STL city locals live, shop, eat, drink, and be merry! A one-of-a-kind St. Louis experience you will not forget!

You'll be enchanted by the elegant design/decor that is ALL based around the early century Victorian era and the STL World's Fair. The retreat is completely decorated with art, photos, aerial maps, antiques, original postcards, books, and memorabilia from the fair that will give any visitor or history buff a true understanding of how truly grand this event was.

More than just 1 or 2? No problem - there is a queen sized memory foam sleeper sofa in the living room AND a queen sized memory foam pull out bed in the dining room. AND there's also a full tea/coffee station along with a few breakfast items we keep stocked for you (which is fun to prepare and then enjoy in the relaxing breakfast room). Perfect for helping you get energized in the mornings!

Ready to go explore? There are 2 road bikes available onsite for guests to rent for a minimal fee (see in pics). Gorgeous Tower Grove Park is only 4 blocks away, the Grand Ave. strip is about 6 blocks away, and the Missouri Botanical Garden is about 1 mile away! Plus...there’s so much more to see in the surrounding area!

There’s always plenty of free street parking right in front of the house. It’s a very quiet block, so there’s not a lot of traffic of activity.

Please advise: there is a security camera on the exterior of the house to protect our guests and the property, and to deter guests from throwing unauthorized parties.

**please be sure to read over all of the house rules before booking**

*NEIGHBORHOOD DETAILS
The Tower Grove East neighborhood is conveniently located near 2 highways and a number of popular city attractions, parks, and neighborhoods. The retreat is only 1 block away from one of the best (and highest Yelp rated) BBQ joints in the city - The Shaved Duck. Also very close by in walking distance is another handful of popular local bars, restaurants, convenient stores, and Tower Grove Park.

Tower Grove Park
This wooded Victorian strolling park rewards meandering. Its 340 kinds of trees could chart every shade of green, and they attract 200 kinds of birds, from red-shafted flickers and monk parakeets to ospreys and ring-billed gulls. Henry Shaw developed the park to give St. Louis “a grand pleasure ground,” with wide lanes for horse-drawn carriages, gates guarded by zinc griffins, and exotic pavilions and gazebos. Every few feet, there’s something to see: lions copied from the tomb of Pope Clement XIII, heroic sculptures (Shakespeare’s here), busts (including Mozart), and antiquities (columns from the Old Courthouse and stone “ruins” from the old Lindell Hotel, reflected in one of the most picturesque ponds in St. Louis). Park officials also recently uncovered a long-forgotten stream on the park's east side, accenting it with rain gardens and native plants on either side.

Great location & beautiful decor

Would totally stay there again. I attended a party at a restaurant nearby in the new year eve and did not wanted to drive back home after drinking, once I live about 35 minutes away. It was a great stay, the place is organized & clean. Very beautiful and well taken care.

Cute old home is a quiet neighborhood. There was acrually a neighborhood block party while we were there! People grilling, children playing, mingling, etc. You can tell they are pround of their neighborhood, a nice area. It was within a 10 minute drive to most attractions in the city. Most of the driving wasnt too bad, lots of 4 way stops and one ways making it a bit easier to help with navigating in a strange city. As for the home. The livingroom was cozy and nice to wind down at the end of the day and watch tv. There were lots of neat little world's fair photos and momentos. Make sure to read thru the welcome book, it also thankfully explains how to pull out the bed in the dining room which we also used in addition to the bedroom. Overall clean and comfortable stay, could use a good dusting though. Light switches were a bit of a learning curve to get used to. Overall would recomend! The Missouri history museum has a display on the worlds fair as well while we were in town, neat to learn about. Make sure to check out forest park to see where it was held and learn more! Not too far from downtown, the Arch, Budweiser Brewery (go meet a Clydesdale horse!) Next to tower park, nice open green space great for walking.

St. Louis Trip

This place was so unique!!! It was perfect for just the two of us but could also work for some others to stay as well. Just to look around at all the “details” that were put into this place was so cool! It was a very easy place to find and was in the perfect area for all the things we wanted to do! Would definitely recommend this place!!

Nice quiet area. Close to everything. Murphy bed was comfortable as was the queen bed in the bedroom. Cardinal game, Clydesdales, beer and Nate Bargatze at the beautiful Fox theater. Enjoyed our downtime at the 1904 Worlds Fair retreat!

A True Home Away From Home

Everything about this property is absolutely lovely. It was my second time staying this year, and it was just as great as the first. The Christmas decorations were an adorable added touch this go around! The neighborhood it’s located in is quiet and it is very easy to get to wherever else you want to go in the city from it. Thank you for sharing with us, it was the perfect weekend away! We absolutely loved it.

Excellent experience

My family and I needed a place to stay while attending a nearby event, and this was perfect. The location was incredibly convenient, close to everywhere we needed to go. And the rental itself is in a beautiful part of the city. Everything was clean and in good order, we were very comfortable during our stay. The fold out beds are very comfortable and did not leave us feeling cramped in the space when they were folded out. We also needed to check in early and our host communicated with us through the whole process, and was very accommodating while also working within the schedule of the cleaner. Highly recommend!

Great place in the heart of st. Louis

A friend and I stayed at the World Fair Retreat and it was a perfect place to stay in St. Louis. Very clean, organized, and decorated beautifully. We felt very safe there also. Down the road just 0.1 mile, was a restaurant called the Shaved Duck, which we really enjoyed. We also loved that there were a selection of teas and coffee, chamomile tea before bed was delightful. Will definitely stay here again if in the area! Thank you to the great hosts!

Fun getaway

My daughter and I had a terrific time in St. Louis as we rolled in for a concert. This place is wonderful, cozy, and very convenient to all of the best features in the city. It's right in the heart of a very historic part of St. Louis, and if you're a fan of architecture, you will love it. My daughter took the bedroom, and I took the pullout couch, and we were both very comfortable. It's decorated beautifully with the 1904 World's Fair theme, and we enjoyed our time in St. Louis very much! Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect stay for a baseball weekend

Wonderful property in a fairly quiet neighborhood close to everything Cardinal Baseball. The 1908 World’s Fair decor is the rich, gooey icing on the cake at this well located, well maintained property. Comfortable, roomy, clean, great bed and amenities, very good kitchen and superb plumbing. I wanted to take the shower home with me. Tony made it easy and stress free, allowing me to concentrate on baseball and other St. Louis activities I’ve always enjoyed, like dinner on The Hill and a trip to Ted Drewe’s Frozen Custard stand out on Chippewa Street. Will. Be. Back…

Tower Grove

The house was beautifully decorated with many pieces from world’s fair era. It was in a conveniently located area. However, we felt the owners needed to keep up on maintaining the rental. The bathroom towels were stained, and shower had no water pressure. The combination lock on front door would cycle without opening several times. It generally took 3 tries before opening. We are over 65, the front stairs are steep without any railings. Something to hold onto would be great. Overall we enjoyed ourselves, but feel some updates would help immensely improve this site.

Nice location; disappointing fees

My husband, two kids and I stayed at the property for six nights over the Thanksgiving holiday. The home is cute and the location is great. The owners also let us check in half an hour early, which we appreciated. We were very disappointed with the fee structure and how we were nickel and dimed through the process. We paid an extra cleaning fee and then an extra fee for additional people, in addition to our six night rent, which was already adding up. At the end of our stay, we took out all of our trash and put everything away carefully. A few days later, we were informed that we’d have an additional amount deducted from our deposit because it took an extra load of laundry and extra time to clean than normal. There was nothing out of the ordinary - some crumbs on the counter, the stovetop needed to be wiped down. I can’t believe they’d charge extra on top of all of their already extra fees. We had a nice stay and then that experience left a very bad taste.

Hello, we've been on VRBO for a few years now, and we absolutely love it. When we travel we want to get the FULL LOCAL EXPERIENCE - which makes us feel like a local, in a local neighborhood, eating at local restaurants, and doing local things. This is what VRBO is ALL ABOUT. And now also as hosts, it brings us the greatest joy that we can offer these same experiences to travelers coming to our beautiful city.

My name is Tony, and with my wife Filomena and two fur babies we are the BOVE family. I am an A/V Project Manager for Centene and she is a Varicose Vein RN at St. Anthony's Hospital.

We are a young active couple that loves to travel (of course), cook at home or eat at unique restaurants, and have a good time with our friends. I am also an audio engineer and music enthusiast. I graduated from Full Sail University with 2 degrees in Recording Arts and Entertainment Business. Filomena has her nursing degree from Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing & Allied Health.

We are very active and always on the go, but we always have time for our guests!
