About this property

Cypress Cottage, Zen Garden, Hot Tub, Dog Welcome

Step through the gate and the city stops.

Palms overhead. Winding mulch paths with places to sit tucked all through them. Butterflies, lizards, hummingbirds. A hammock, a fire pit, and a hot tub under string lights that earns its keep once the evenings turn cool. The garden is the reason more guests write home about this place than anything else, and it keeps its color well into the fall.

When Pensacola cools, the trip moves into the warm corners. Long soaks in a 100 year old clawfoot tub with a tankless heater, so the hot water never runs out. The hot tub at the end of the garden. The fire pit with a glass of wine and the bugs and toads chirping. Real heat inside for the crisp mornings. The outdoor shower is still here and still a favorite, and a January guest called it "fantastic and super hot," but on the coldest, windiest weeks the clawfoot tub and the hot tub are where you will want to be.

Inside is 350 square feet of native cypress, floor to ceiling, with a loft bed under the peak. It is small on purpose and built for two.

Guests keep saying the photos do not capture it. One wrote that she felt like she had teleported to a resort. Another put it more plainly: felt like home, but without all the work.

Fall here is quieter than summer. The white-sand beaches are about 20 minutes away and far calmer this time of year, the dog-walking weather is about as good as the Gulf Coast gets, and East Hill fills its evenings with small eateries and neighborhood venues within a short walk.

Please read the Guest Access and Other Things to Note sections before you book. The garden and hot tub are shared with the front house, the loft is reached by a steep ladder, and the bathroom is open behind a curtain. Most guests find all of it part of the charm, and it is worth knowing first.

About the host

Hosted by Tommy Bodkins

Host profile image
Tommy spent decades cultivating more than just a garden here, he created an experience.
A retired private chef with an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz and a genuine love for bringing people together, Tommy hand-built this native cypress cottage and transformed his East Hill backyard into the lush tropical sanctuary it is today.
With over eight years as a Superhost, he welcomed hundreds of guests, enjoyed memorable meals, shared his extensive vinyl collection by the fire pit, and became known for his warm hospitality and local recommendations that never missed.
His vision was simple: create a space where strangers could arrive stressed and leave restored; where a backyard could feel like Bali, and where every detail from the vintage clawfoot tub to the outdoor shower surrounded by jasmine told a story.
Now, as Tommy explores Europe with his wife Jennifer sharing his passions abroad, trusted Superhost Cathy carries forward his legacy of thoughtful hosting and genuine care, ensuring the zen garden continues to work its magic for every guest who walks through that garden gate, every single stay.
