Amazing place with incredible view.
This place was incredible. Lovely decor, unbelievable views from almost every window, and right on the water! It's close to great swimming beaches, and we enjoyed checking out "The Ovens", Rose Bay General Store, and Hirtles Beach! Some wonderful meals in Lunenberg (the Beach Pea was awesome!) and Mahone Bay (Oh my Cod!). An amazing family vacation with lots to see and do in the area.

This place was amazing. You could tell that every detail of the house was carefully thought out, and strategically placed. The house was well put together, beautifully decorated and kept the charm that represents Nova Scotia. Beds were very comfortable and the house was clean and had everything you needed. The beach was incredible, and access was right out the front door. Kids (and adults) spent hours looking for sea glass, and exploring the area. General store nice and close and surrounding small towns were easily accessible. Quiet, safe and you can't get over the view of ocean (especially from the master bedroom). I will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family and might even venture back at some point in the future. Communication with hosts was great (even sent an email to check in halfway through the visit). Highly recommend.

Great place to stay in Nova Scotia
My friend and I booked this place for a week to attend a writing retreat. It is in a lovely spot and the master has gorgeous views of the bay. The house is nicely appointed and we had everything we needed. It does not have AC. Given that it is coastal and highs 70-80’s, I didn’t think it would be needed. I did not account for humidity and it was rather hot, especially upstairs. It is about a 20-25 min drive to lunenberg so you need to plan your shopping. I loved the beachy feel and great views. It is on a pretty quiet road and running in the am was also a plus. I would have preferred a coffee maker to a press but we survived. Would have given 5 stars but it was not as clean as it should have been. The bedding in the spare bedroom did not smell clean (maybe because it was not a duvet cover it could not be easily washed? But it needed it). Sand on the carpet and the backsplash was dirty. I’m not trying to be picky, I’m generally pretty casual but it’s a pricey cleaning fee. Although this house could sleep 5-6 easily the bathroom would be a limiting factor. It was fine for the 2 of us. We did not take advantage of the outdoor fire pit but it looked lovely. Overall a great stay! Fantastic area! Stunning really.

Comfortable home with beautiful water views
The home was exactly as pictured and described. Lovely home on quiet road with great water views from porch and rooms. The kitchen, bathrooms, and linens were all very clean. However, housekeeping needs to pay closer attention to details (e.g., dirty interior doorway jams, cobwebs on porch). The mattresses need to be rotated or replaced (as sagging a bit on edge where people sit). The host’s email about arrival was informative - but failed to mention that the bridge that led to the home was closed for construction (no mention of it on web-site). Luckily one of our cell phones was still able to get a signal and we found the detours and other roads would eventually get us to the home. (The neighbor told us the bridge has been closed for a year). Even though that was disappointing, as we had wanted to be within a shorter drive into Lunenburg - we still enjoyed our relaxing stay at this home.

Nice to meet you! We're Rob and Melissa.
He's an investigative journalist and I'm an interior designer. We split our time between Toronto, Ontario and our sweet rental cottage in Nova Scotia.
Rob is from Halifax and I'm from a small farm town in Ontario and buying this property was really about that feeling of coming home. We wanted our children to experience the culture, the people and the back to basics simplicity that simply can't be had in the city.
I now manage a team of designers and architects for a major corporation in Canada, but my old life was as lead designer for more than 150 episodes of HGTV, most notable 10 seasons of Income Property. After years of scouting, planning, designing and setting up other properties as my professional focus, I turned my attention to our own.
We really tried to think of everything to create the ideal holiday for us and our guests. The polish of a hotel, the amenities of your own home and the whimsy that only a lovingly curated space can offer.
We undertook a significant renovation, made swifter by the time afforded us during COVID. As we put the finishing touches on the house, Rob and I looked out from the new oceanfront sun deck, clinked our Schooner beer and watched the Bluenose II sail by. A moment of gratitude and affirmation that this would be a special place made all the more so when we share it with guests.

Welcome to the Salty Cribb.

Why they chose this property

Rob is from Halifax and has always said Lunenburg is his favourite place in the world. We always came to Nova Scotia for holidays in August to visit Rob's family and take the kids for some salt water relaxation. We would do the classic, "some day" musing about owning a place of our own.
My old life had me scouting rental properties in need of renovations and I suppose you could say, I'm a bit of a blood hound for sniffing out the diamonds in the rough.
It was a mix of keen eyes, and blind luck that had me punch impossible parameters into MLS that lead us to what is now, The Salty Cribb. As Rob's mom said when she toured it for us at first, "it's uninhabitable". What she and the realtor didn't realize at the time is that for a property scout, that's music to my ears.
The house was in a bad state, simple neglect took it's tole, but the property......wow. Feltzen South is pure magic. Built 100+ years ago, this was a fishermen settlement. Simple salt box homes, modest at the time. Then, the ocean front homes were the undesirable with the rich living in town. Boy have the times changed.
What Rob and I saw was the most stunning open view of the ocean, the lights of Lunenburg at night across the bay, and nothing but forest behind. It was perfect.
The day we took possession I had a truck filled with every light fixture, stick of furniture and curtain needed. I treated the 1 week reno like one of the episodes I designed for HGTV. We of course have since fully updated the home top to bottom and most importantly turned our attention to the exterior adding a 40' sun deck, fire pit and string light lit dining area.
The beach out front is deeded to the house, a rare perk that just makes it all the more special. We have our own piece of the Atlantic!
