First, the lake itself. We have found Lake Delavan to be the perfect balance between Lake Geneva (too stuck up and dangerously busy on the weekends) and the much smaller lakes in the area (Lauderdales, Beulah, Whitewater, etc.). Although somewhat smaller than Geneva, Delavan is plenty of lake for all the boating and watersports fun we need without the insane boat traffic. Delavan's water quality and size is superior to the smaller lakes in the area.
Second, the house. In our lake home search we ran into a broad range of old and cramped converted cottages. Ancient bases, low ceilings, and endless and poorly designed additions were a big turnoff. Built in 2003, this house has a modern and smart design that maximizes lake views and sleeping and entertaining spaces. It is very efficient, easy, and relaxing to be in.
Third, the experience. Growing up on a lake gave us a deep appreciation for lake living. Jumping and swimming in the lake. Floating for hours on the tubes and air mattresses. Badminton, croquet, frisbee, water balloon and squirt gun fights on the front lawn. Fishing with our dads and friends. Tearing around on the jetskis and boats. Forth of July with fireworks. Wandering along the lake front and making new friends. Long evening cruises. Parties with campfires by the water.
If this is the experience you are looking for, its all right here with certification from lake snobs.
