About this property

Sycamores Cottage, near the Dorset Coast.

Sycamores Cottage is one of five holiday cottages which is part of Character Farm Cottages. It is situated on our working farm 5 miles to the West of Weymouth and a stones throw form the stunning Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coastline. The cottage can accommodate 5 people with 2 bedrooms upstairs which can be made up as doubles or twin beds as required. The cottage is full of features such as exposed beams, inglenooks and an open fire. The kitchen is very well equipped and includes a dishwasher, and has a farmhouse table which easily sits 5 for sociable meal times together. The sitting room has a sofa and 2 armchairs for relaxing in front of the open log fire or watching TV. Free wifi is provided for you to keep in touch with the outside world! The upstairs bathroom has a bath and shower attachment.
The Sycamores has a large enclosed south facing enclosed garden with patio and garden furniture to enjoy a barbeque or evening drinks. The garden leads onto our own farm land from which you can join the Coastal Footpath and numerous shorter walks. There is plenty of space at the rear of the cottage to park your car and we are dog friendly (normally a maximum of 2).
There is a games room a short walk away from the Sycamores which has table tennis, table football and a good selection of paper backs for you to borrow. It also has laundry facilities.
We try to stick to weekly breaks running Friday to Friday and short breaks out of season - a 3 night break running Friday to Monday and a 4 night break running Monday to Friday. However we can be flexible if you have different requirements.

Fabulous peaceful location

Beautifully put together cottage with a fantastic garden rendered private by clever use of screening. Great weather so perfect opportunity at the location to undertake walks locally or after short drives. All the equipment we needed and comfortable beds. Plumbing made some interesting noises upstairs but all worked.Fabulous memories

Week in Dorset

The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need. There were garden toys in the shed for the children and the games room is a great option. It would have been handy to have more hangers in the wardrobe and the bathroom needs a toothbrush holder on the wall. Maybe let people know that the doorways within the cottage are low as this was a slight issue for my husband who lost count of how many times he banged his head. Overall it was a lovely break away.

Lovely cottage in glorious location.

The Sycamores is a lovely old cottage which was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and maintained, and exactly as described on the website. The two bedrooms were both generously sized and the beds very comfortable. Our hosts provided full contact details and called in to check that everything was satisfactory. The highlight of our visit for my grandson was that, in the field at the back of the spacious, rear garden, cows from this working dairy farm could be found grazing! The cottage is very well situated for visiting some amazing attractions and, altogether, we had a fantastic break (long weekend), in a particularly beautiful corner of the country.

Sehr schönes ruhiges Cottage in einer traumhaften Landschaft

Das Sycamore Cottage ist sehr gut ausgestattet und liegt schön ruhig und ländlich. Es ist eine tolle Ausgangslage für eine Tour entlang der Jurassic Coast. Tolle und viele Besichtigungsmöglichkeiten sind in der Nähe vorhanden. Die Vermieter sind auch sehr nett. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Character Farm Cottages is owned by my wife Jane and her parents Rob and Ann Mayo and have been in the self catering business for over 30 years. Many of our guests come several times a year and we now have 3rd generations of families enjoying our cottages! In addition Jane and Rob run the family farm which is mixed and consists of dairy, arable and beef. Many of our guests enjoy wandering the many footpaths on the farm, visiting the dairy and helping feed the young calves. I am a long haul pilot for British Airways and when at home, help out with the farm and keeping the cottages up together. I also keep our own website up and running and do all the bookings and correspondence.

What makes this property unique

Sycamores Cottage is situated on our working dairy farm on the outskirts of Langton Herring, a short distance away from the stunning Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon. The cottage is surrounded by open fields in which you are free to walk and join many public foot paths and indeed the Coastal Footpath runs very close to the cottage. 5 miles to the east is the seaside town of Weymouth which has a beautiful sandy beach and lovely safe and shallow water. 3 miles to the west is the village of Abbotsbury famous for its Swannery and Sub-tropical gardens. A little bit further on is the village of WestBay which was the location for the popular ITV series Broadchurch. Here you will find the stunning beach and cliffs which often formed the backdrop to the program.

The market town of Dorchester is a 15 minute drive away and is worth a visit, particularly to Brewery Square which is a new development featuring an Odeon Cinema and many eating places such as Nandos, Pizza Express, Cotes, Zizzis and Waggamamas. Dorset is a fantastic place to explore and there are many country houses and gardens to visit. Also Monkey World, the Tank Museum at Bovingdon, Go Ape, Brenscombe Outdoor Center with its exhilarating high ropes and numerous beaches should keep all busy.
