Glens of Antrim Mountain Cabin

It is regrettable that this guest was dissatisfied with his stay as it relates to his particular expectations. I am the property owner as I do not use an agent. Winter snow and ice in the mountains can often create potholes in the roads which the county may be slow to fix, but they do eventually get repaired. The property’s driveway is generally well packed gravel. The first 60 feet or so from the paved road is at a 6% grade which is not especially steep for mountainous areas. Public roads in the mountains approaching the property have similar and even steeper inclines. The remaining 240 feet of the driveway is level. The parking area at the house end of the driveway is about 25 feet wide; wide enough for two parked cars and actually even wide enough for a single full-size automobile to turn around. Our listing has pictures of this, and the guest was provided a picture of the gravel driveway entrance from the road showing this incline/decline before his arrival. While the guest did simply inform me that he would be “motorcycle touring” with his reservation request, he made no inquiries and expressed no concerns about the suitability of the property for such prior to his arrival, nor did he provide further information about what “motorcycle touring” would involve. Since I have no personal experience with motorcycling, it is difficult for me to anticipate what all that might entail, as might be the case with any number of things guests wish to do both on and off the property during their visit. Nonetheless I am always pleased to provide any information and address any concern that a guest may have about the property or their stay, and that includes prior to their reservation, before arrival, and during their stay. I would not wish to rent to anyone who is overly concerned about the property not meeting their expectations. It is certainly in any guest’s best interest to carefully review our listing, ask questions, and express concerns before requesting a reservation.

Although this is largely a positive response, we regret that our cabin did not meet all of this guest’s expectations and would like to address the concerns mentioned. Although it’s never dry, the creek’s water level is largely dependent on somewhat recent rainfall on the surrounding mountains. October is the “fall colors” season, so there is normally a great number of leaves on the ground by early November. Although this mountain property and yard are large, the land is mostly somewhat steep, and it is a 3-level home with no elevator, as described in the listing. So, it can be difficult for those people with physical limitations to fully enjoy the experience. Nonetheless, the large open porches and deck offer a nice outdoor experience for all. The living room sofa and recliner were not “damaged”, but they came new with a distressed leather look and the material became quite worn looking recently. Their replacement was already on our agenda and the living room sofa has been replaced with a new leather sofa. We expect to also replace the recliner soon. Photos in the listing of the living room accurately reflect the seating accommodations and have been updated to show the new sofa. The kitchen table with 6 chairs is immediately adjacent to the living room, and, although not quite as comfortable, those can be used for extra seating in the living room.
