Bright & Private English Basement • H St · Union Market · NoMa Metro
Welcome to a light-filled, renovated one-bedroom English basement just 2 blocks from the heart of H Street NE — one of DC’s best neighborhoods for food, nightlife, and everyday city living. Unlike most basement apartments, this one doesn’t feel like one. Nearly 8-foot ceilings and full-size windows and doors bring in real natural light throughout the day, making the space feel open, airy, and genuinely comfortable. Private by design. The apartment has its own dedicated front and rear entrances, completely separate from the unit above. No shared hallways, no shared spaces — just your own private retreat in the middle of the city. Keyless entry means you’re never fumbling for keys or worried about losing them. Your kitchen, your linens, your home. The apartment is fully stocked with kitchen essentials, bathroom amenities, and all linens — towels, washcloths, sheets, and blankets included. The neighborhood is half the experience. H Street is 2 blocks away, lined with acclaimed restaurants, and lively bars. Union Market and La Cosecha — two of DC’s favorite food and outdoor hangout destinations — are a short walk away. And there 7 grocery stores within a mile if you’d rather cook! Getting around is effortless: • 🚇 NoMa-Gallaudet Red Line Metro — 12-15 min walk • 🚌 City bus stop at the corner • 🚲 Capital Bikeshare station 1 block away • 🛴 Electric scooters available throughout the neighborhood • 🚗 Free street parking right out front • 🏛️ The Capitol Building is a scenic 1-mile stroll down Maryland Ave NE A note on the neighborhood: This is real, living DC — diverse in culture, background, and nationality. I’ve called this block home for over 10 years and love it for exactly that reason. Guests who share that appreciation will feel right at home here. A few nearby H Street NE (2 blocks) recommendations: • Maketto — Pan-Asian street food in one of DC’s coolest indoor/outdoor spaces; great for a casual lunch or dinner • Toki Underground — DC’s most beloved ramen spot; expect a wait on weekends, but worth every minute • Granville Moore’s — Cozy Belgian beer hall with excellent mussels and an impressive draft list • Tapori — Lively Indian street food and tropical cocktails from the team behind Daru; think Mumbai markets meets Bollywood energy with dishes like dosa, momos, and inventive “Indian-ish” drinks • Sushi Sato — Chef Tim Ma’s all-you-can-eat sushi spot with creative rolls, izakaya dishes, and Japanese-inspired cocktails; a fun night out right on H St • Henceforth — A polished three-level brewery and wine bar in the former H Street Country Club space; housemade craft beers, natural wines, elevated bar food, and a rooftop patio • Daru (just off H St on Maryland Ave NE) -- One of DC’s most celebrated restaurants — James Beard-nominated chef Suresh Sundas serves bold, creative “Indian-ish” cuisine like black daal with burrata and blue cheese chicken kebabs, alongside inventive cocktails. Named one of America’s best new restaurants by the New York Times. Union Market & La Cosecha (~13 min walk) • Union Market — DC’s premier indoor food hall; perfect for weekend brunch or an afternoon browse • La Cosecha — Latin American market and food hall with a beautiful outdoor courtyard; great drinks and a festive vibe Parks & Outdoor Spots • Langston Golf Course & RFK Trail — Riverside trail along the Anacostia; great for a morning run or a scenic walk • National Mall — A short ride away; open green space, monuments, and world-class free museums • H Street itself — Sidewalk dining and street life at its best, especially on weekend evenings

Small place that was perfect for two adults and a ten year old. We really don’t require much, especially for a single night, but the place was just as described.
We enjoyed our stay in this basement apartment. It felt cozy and spacious at the same time, had everything we needed, comfortable beds, a nice kitchen, and the best hot shower ever.
Great location, place was as advertised. Very friendly & communicative host. Well appointed. Would stay here again.

Luxurious Rental that is hard to beat at its price. Multiple Grocery stores around the area >1mi away, Rental had everything needed for a vacation getaway. Would purchase again for sure.
This apartment was adorable and very accommodating for a small family traveling with with children.(ours are 9 & 10) parking close by was easy to find and the bed was very comfortable. We will definitely rent again if we are back in dc.
We enjoyed a full month stay in this modern and equiped flat. The owner was a great communicator, friendly, helpful and personable. We had a pleasant, safe and comfortable stay. Super close to Gallaudet Univ and Union Market.
Cozy, charming place with easy access to city (only 3 blocks from streetcar) and shopping & restaurants nearby on H Street. Much more comfortable than hotel, with full kitchen and separate bedroom. (We brought twin air mattress so all could sleep in bedroom, with kiddo on an earlier bedtime, and not convert couch.) Would stay again!
Exactly as described. Comfortable and sparkling clean. No exaggeration, the shower is great! Recommend Taqueria Al Lado down the street for delicious food.

Fantastic 1br apt with pull-out sofa for extra sleeping. Area was quiet. I would highly recommend this place. The only downside would be the stores and restaurants are a moderate walk. They are very nice however.

A fine garden-level apartment. As with nearly all apartment units/properties that exist for the express purpose of vacation rental, there are little things that a permanent resident would add or upgrade, but for a few nights visiting DC, this place was great.
Everything was clean and all of the essentials were there. Other folks have mentioned the neighborhood not being the greatest, which I agree with, but we chose to just not walk after dark. The bus stop is on the same block which made it super easy to get around. Owner was responsive and pleasant. Highly recommend :)
Friends and I were in DC for a music festival and this was the perfect place to crash after a full day and night of dancing. Super easy to get rideshares to and from the event from here. Felt safe for it being in DC and we were out both nights until the early AM hours. The house was super clean and modern and perfect for our needs. We will 100% stay here again if we come down for the festival next year!
The property was as listed. Everything was new/modern. Shower was heaven. Parking was very easy around the block. Getting to the capital district was easy and I was surprised how cheap garage parking was downtown. We saw so many sights. Wholefoods was our go to for food.
Perfect for our daughter's graduation weekend in DC
We were in town for our daughter's graduation from GW so we weren't in the apartment that much. It had everything we needed and was very clean. We would have liked it the outdoor light to the apartment was on when we checked in because it is a basement apartment and we arrived after dark but other than that, we were happy with it.
The apartment was clean and comfortable. The host was very responsive when I had a question. Parking outside was plentiful. Bonus: there’s a park just around the block, which my kids loved. Brand new washer and dryer. Pull out sofa is just a fold down futon. Not terribly uncomfortable, but not a sofa bed. Overall, a great place to stay.
The basement apartment is super cute, clean, and welcoming. The kitchen is small but functional- a baking sheet that fits in the oven would be helpful, appreciated the microwave and toaster oven! We usually took an Uber into the city but the Metro was helpful too. We were able to walk to Whole Foods and Union District- the neighborhood could make some nervous but we felt fine. Overall we were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay in DC! Thank you :)
Well-appointed, clean, roomy apartment for the three of us. Literally, a few steps from a metro bus stop and a bodega. The free trolley that takes you all along H St to Union Station is a quick, easy, flat, 3 block walk away. You can access Giant grocery store, chain restaurants, local eateries, CVS, Dollar Tree and many other businesses with streetcar stops in front of them. At Union Station you can take the DC circulator for a dollar to many different locations or get on the metro. The apartment is in a great, quiet neighborhood next to a school and the owner is amazingly helpful and accessible if you have questions. Wonderful stay with my 10 and 15 year old grandnieces.
My husband and I just wanted to get out of the house for a weekend, and this was a fun little trip for us!
The keyless entry is really a brilliant idea! The apartment is just as described in the ad. We are walkers and had no trouble walking to H Street where we found restaurants, Whole Foods Market, plus free transport to Union Station. We did use Uber for the first time and loved it - DC is super-tricky to drive around (for us), so it was a great choice.
The bed was a semi-firm memory foam mattress, very comfortable and the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The shower floor was a little slippery so I put down a kitchen towel for safety - it was great, otherwise! There was plenty of streaming channels on tv, and we had no trouble with the WIFI. We highly recommend this apartment and would stay here again!

Hi! I’m a DC local who loves to travel, build things, and (slowly) teach myself guitar. I’ve been opening my home to guests for years because I genuinely believe the best way to experience a city is to live in it — not just see it. I’m happy to share local tips, but I’ll give you your space and let you explore on your own terms.
Why they chose this property
Staying here gives you a genuine feel for DC life beyond the monuments. Trinidad is a close-knit, diverse neighborhood in Northeast DC — the kind of place where neighbors still say hello on the street. I’ve lived on this block for over a decade and know nearly everyone by name. You’ll leave having actually experienced DC, not just toured it.
What makes this property unique
Most DC short-term rentals put you in a high-rise or a tourist corridor. This apartment puts you 2 blocks from one of DC’s best neighborhood strips, a short walk from Union Market, and 10 minutes from the Metro — in a bright, private space that feels like a real DC home. The full-height ceilings and oversized windows set it apart from nearly every other basement rental you’ll find in the city.
