About this property

Fabulous 4 BR on huge lot, 200 yards to shark-free beach, 8 min walk to downtown

Seawind is a well maintained and and updated year-round, air-conditioned home. Built in 1985, it comes with every amenity, including a very well equipped kitchen, 4 spacious bedrooms (3 with TVs), two decks, 4 TVs in total, Xfinity cable / PVR, a large dining room table for 8, and all within earshot of the beautiful sandy Atlantic Avenue Beach on the very warm waters of Nantucket Sound.

Plus 10 beach chairs, a beach wagon, 2 beach umbrellas - all things you don't need to bring!

Seawind's configuration is absolutely perfect for a larger family with grand parents, two families to share, or a family with a live in nanny / au pair. with bedrooms and bathrooms / showers on 2 floors, allowing for some privacy and separation if desired.

Set well back from the road and somewhat secluded on the largest lot in the neighborhood, Seawind is situated on the *actual site* of the historical Campground meetings - more on that later - offering plenty of room to throw frisbees or play catch or volleyball and keep youngsters safe from traffic.

Close to EVERYTHING. The beach is a 3 minute walk - 4 minutes with toddlers.
There are 5 exceptional restaurants including a James Beard / Zagat featured chef, the Cape's best sandwich shop, the Cape's best pizza, numerous coffee shops, a Dunkin and a CVS, all within a 4 to 8 minute walk.

Past guests include Hollywood stars (Denis Leary has rented twice) and NFL players (tight end for the Texans / Jets).

The house has been rented half summers since 1992 and 10 weeks a summer since the kids hit college a dozen years ago - but is new to this site. You can find past references and reviews on another site by searching "Harwich Port" and "Seawind".

Our guests are almost always 50-75% repeat guests (4 weeks of 2020 so far), which says a lot. We'll make significant efforts to ensure you have a fabulous stay and become one of or regulars! Please don't hesitate to call for more photos or information: gpitchford @ deltamanagement . com.

GREEN / SUSTAINABILITY:
Professionally, I'm fully engaged in helping to drive a transition to a low carbon economy in Canada, while trying to walk the talk in Cape Cod - and making it easy for our guests to do the same. All our electricity is from all renewable sources (wind / solar), our lighting is 95% LEDs, and we try to make it easier for you to have a greener vacation with recycling bins and pick up, as well as great grocery bins you can use to eliminate all bags when shopping. All the appliances are the lowest energy consumers available, (or were when purchased) and we practice "green" landscaping: no fertilizers and longer grass to fully eliminate the need for watering the last 7 seasons. The Cape is a very special place - we try to do our best to keep it that way - both for my own future grand-children (I hope will come soon!) - and for yours.

HOUSE DETAILS:
The house is about 2000 sf of living space: 2 full stories with four bedrooms, 2.5 baths and outdoor shower, plus a full height, fully finished basement with a walkout to a large side yard. There is also a fair sized back yard, and decks both front and back. The lot itself is about a half acre, and is an odd shape, but offers kids lots of room for catch, frisbee, even volleyball or badminton. There is a bike rack at the side. Plus laundry, dishwasher, air conditioning etc etc.

The GROUND FLOOR consists of a large combination kitchen that flows into the dining room, taking up the back(south) side. There's a breakfast bar for 2 and comfortable dining room seating for 8. There is lots of counter room, a new side-by-side refrigerator with ice maker. The kitchen offers mixers, a coffee grinder, drip coffee makers, kettle, blender, steamer, and a food processor in addition to a full picnic kit, popcorn maker, etc. etc. Lots of wine glasses, plenty of cutlery and dishes. A good selection of knives and cutting boards, a garlic press, lots of pans and a new stove (plus 2 BBQs!) make the kitchen very cook friendly. Lots of spices & basic cooking supplies are there for your use.

The dining area has a slider walk out to a brand new deck with 2 brand new Weber BBQs and dinner seating for 8 or more. The sound system enables you to pipe your phone's music throughout the house - including out to the deck via pushbutton selections.

The front half of the ground floor consists of a large living room with two 3-seater couches and a comfy chair gathered around the entertainment center (TV, DVD, sound system), a small office / desk area (wifi and hi-speed ethernet hookup), and there is a 2 piece powder room as well.

The SECOND FLOOR is comprised of three bedrooms, and a full 4 piece bathroom. Each bedroom has a window air conditioner that ensures a good night's rest, even when the Cape gets sticky. Both Bedroom 1 and bedroom 2 feature queen size beds with their own flat screen TVs on cable.

The south facing "Bunk room" is a pair of twins on beautiful built in teak bunks, with walls covered in actual navigation charts of the Cape and the east coast: Perfect for the kids. A water glimpse from the window.

Beds are all new / recent and guaranteed comfortable. The view from most windows is nothing but trees!

The BASEMENT: fully finished, very bright, and in addition to the bedroom (bunks: twin over full) has a shower and washroom, and a very accessible bright laundry area with brand new front loading Samsung pair - steam washer / dryer.

The TV area offers comfortable seating on leather furniture for 6, in front of a larger TV / DVD. There's a glass slider walk out to the side yard, fully carpets and painted insulated walls, and in all, is high, nice and bright. Not your typical "basement".

With a bunch of board games, books and craft / puzzle table, the lower level is where you send the kids with friends - on rainy days - or when they can't agree on what program to watch ! The bathroom with shower also offers great privacy for an au pair, or visiting grand parents.

NOTE: Linens and cleaning available at additional cost.

The beach: is absolutely great - long & wide, a nice sandy bottom & suitable for adult or child swimmers and offers the warmest salt water on Cape Cod. Mids 70s by early July.

All in all, a super comfortable, well equipped home by the beach, guaranteed to make your family's vacation special.

The Campgrounds: In case you are not familiar, here's a little history. The Campgrounds got their name from religious gatherings that used to take place in the immediate vicinity back in the early / mid-19th century. There were several meeting areas on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Various visiting preachers would come and preach to summer visitors who would camp nearby (hence "Camp Grounds"). The Harwich Port camp ground was called "Ocean Grove" (hence "Ocean Street" and our street - formerly "Main Street" and now Grove Street).

If you stroll the neighborhood to the west, you'll see all the tiny little lots that used to hold tents, and then eventually cottages, Many are in the process of being ripped and replaced, but the tiny lots remain.

The creators of the area trucked in sand using horses and wagons, and built an amphitheatre facing north. The faithful would journey from Boston and New York, and gather on the man-made hillside to hear sermons that lasted all afternoon (sounds like a waste of a good beach!). Seawind is built on that slope, and the property is the actual meeting ground!

According to the Harwich historical Society, Seawind is the actual site of the first abolitionist meeting in New England that ultimately led to the civil war! In some ways, essentially the birthplace of the original "Black lives matter"... There's an old plot plan of the neighborhood framed on the second floor, if you're interested, and the Historical society has numerous pictures of the meetings in progress. Worth a visit on a rainy day...

Many of the trees on the property now are over 200 years old - and witnessed all that!

You and your family can come and make your own memories...

The company I founded in 1992 does 2 things: We are the leading executive search firm in Canada for "green professionals". From Chief Sustainability Officers to Building Automation Systems Engineers, climate advocates and Responsible Investment / ESG investment professionals, no other firm has our reach. www.DeltaManagement.com

Nine years ago we started an award program to identify, recognize, and most importantly, to connect 50 individual sustainability and environmental leaders from every segment of society across all of Canada, and we annually convene the new incoming awardees and connect them with each other and with past winners at the "Clean50 Summit", held each year in late September or early October, with the goal of driving collaboration between them. We've succeeded in many ways. It's incredibly cool! Check out www.clean50.com

Beyond that... I started coming to the Cape with my family as a 14 year old and a 12 hour drive from Toronto. Fell in love, and at 17 spent the summer teaching sailing at the Harwich Port / Wychmere Harbour based "Stone Horse Yacht Club". My best friend that summer lived a block from Seawind - which did not then exist, but was a vacant lot. Came back year after year - and swore I would buy a place as soon as I could. Got lucky when the market crashed in 93 and Seawind was then available - but not so lucky when it became "marital property" under Canadian law and then I had to buy half of it from my ex, sadly at market peak in 2002...

I still sail extensively in Toronto, and with luck, in 2020, also in Cape Cod, as we will occasionally visit this summer, and live on our boat in nearby Saquatucket - and perhaps have a chance to meet you and take you for a sail.

Most important thing about me for you to know is how determined I am to ensure you and your kids enjoy Cape Cod as much as I have for the past 40+ years. You'll find me helpful and incredibly responsive should anything come up.

Why they chose this property

Seawind offers literally a perfect blend of everything you want in a vacation home away from home.

It's comfortable everywhere - the living space, the bedrooms, the mattresses and pillows, the sofas, the back deck. Air conditioned, lots of TVs, oversized laundry tubs.

It's close to everything - the ideal location for proximity to a relatively quiet and uncrowded beach close enough you can hear it - only a 4 minute walk, and matched by proximity to town: 8 minutes walk to 3 great bars, 5 great restaurants, awesome sandwiches, cafes and the best pizza on the Cape.

And even though you are in the midst of lots of people and close to everything... the trees and lot size make it feel like you have your own secluded home away from everything.

The area has LOTS of kids for your kids to play with - or not: a secluded lot that offers lots of trees and privacy, and room for your kids to run and play without dealing with - or even seeing - traffic or having the kids be out of your sight.

And it's pretty guilt free and low carbon: After you have shopped for groceries, you can almost park the car and never use it until you need to leave, plus you're using green electricity and recycling.
