About this property
Historic Farmhouse near Taliesin, APT, Wisconsin River
Aldebaran Farm was owned by Frank Lloyd Wright's uncle James Lloyd-Jones. Young Wright spent boyhood summers there working on his uncle's farm and falling in love with the valley where he would later build his own home. It's said that from the upper front window of the house, he could see the sites of Taliesin, the masterpiece he built for himself; Unity Chapel, whose ceiling represents his first work as an architect; and Hillside School, which he designed for his aunts and later made the headquarters of his architectural fellowship.
The Main House is available for rental year-round. It is heated, air conditioned, and powered with 100% solar electricity. It sleeps up to 12 and has a fully equipped kitchen and a huge table that seats 10 comfortably for dinner. It's perfect for theater weekends, family reunions, and relaxing getaways. The property is 17 acres, with walking paths, picturesque outbuildings, and spectacular views of the Jones Valley. It's minutes away from American Players Theatre, the Wisconsin River, the Springs golf course, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitors Center.
Midweek special policy: two-night minimum stay Monday - Thursday.

This property was fantastic. Quiet, peaceful, and full of charm. The location to architectural history was really great. Loved the history of the property and the vibe of the house. For bird lovers, there are a lot of species around and their songs surround you like a disney story. Would stay here again. My only criticism, which has nothing to do with the rental, was the BUGS. It was hard to enjoy the outside of the property due to the relentless attack from the local bugs. We did have bug spray, but sometimes you just want to step outside into the sun for a little bit without coating yourself in spray. Thanks again for letting us stay on the property.

Thanks for being great guests and leaving such a nice review. And sorry about the bugs! They seem to come in waves--sometimes a problem, other times not, and we've never been able to predict from week to week. Country liviing! Come back and we'll instruct them to say away.
This was a really great house to stay in by Spring Green. We had our two kid’s families with us as we were in town for a wedding. The space worked out great. The setting and the property were beautiful and the house was well apportioned. I recommend it and will stay here again. And it’s really close to APT and the resort
Location was marvelous
Could use new towels
Could use new coffee pot
Could use better living room furniture
Could use brighter lighting
Could use outdoor furniture
The property is in a gorgeous location. It was clean and well-heated (we were there in early Fall). It is a rural location, but very close to Taliesin, among other things. The house reminded us of staying at a camp lodge or your grandparents' cabin. Great fireplace. We were a group of ladies who were there to tour the area for the annual Fall Art Tour and it met our needs completely! Thank you!
The Farmhouse was perfect for our family gathering! We had my mother, my husband and me, and my two children and their significant others. The house accommodated us all very comfortably. We cooked wonderful meals together and play games while enjoying a roaring fire. I highly recommend! Be sure to tour Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin - which you can see right outside the windows of the farmhouse. Being in this space gave us an even fuller appreciation of his inspiration from this beautiful valley. The hosts were wonderful as well.

So sorry for the bad sleep! Which bed(s) are you talking about, we'll look into it. Sorry, no mosquitoes do not obey us.
I booked the house for a long weekend we always spend with my husband, his brothers and their families. We weren't the first ones to arrive and when we did they were like "you guys, I can't believe how amazing this place is". There was plenty of room for everyone, even the 5 kids. There was room for all of us to eat together at the huge table, and we spent evenings sitting on the front porch while the kids ran up and down the hill catching lightning bugs. The house was close to sights and things to do, but felt very rural in the best way. 100% would come stay again.
A charming home in a gorgeous setting. Created a lovely backdrop for some quality family time. Convenient to APT, Taliesin and Spring Green Art Fair. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back next summer!
We really enjoyed our family getaway at this property! There were plenty of activities to bond and disconnect from devices. The historical significance of the property also adds to the excitement! Lots of fun excursions close to the property from hiking to Frank Lloyd Wright properties. Very clean with everything we needed for our stay. Have already recommended this property to friends!
Interesting historic house in one of my favorite places on earth, includes a wonderful library of history, art, architecture and literature, and a cozy fireplace. Great hiking nearby. Responsive and accommodating management. We loved our stay!
Spacious home with room enough space for our family and friends! Worked out wonderfully for having great food at the large dinner table. The many comfy chairs and padded benches were great for playing games and reading. Outside there was a terrific sledding hill. Located minutes from the House On The Rock! All around great experience!
Thank you so much for sharing your very homey and historical farmhouse. We love the location, the local beauty and the opportunity to reconnect with family and friends. We are big fans of Frank Lloyd Wright. Taliesin in the history of the farmhouse were of great interest to us. We were glad we finally had the opportunity to visit.
We had a great little getaway with some friends and family. We visited the house on the rock and the Cave of the Mounds since they were nearby. The property is amazing along with it’s historical value and ties to Frank Lloyd Wright. We had the best time just relaxing and enjoying our time together. The host was very responsive to our questions and accommodating to make our stay a pleasant one!
We enjoyed our long weekend here so much. The property is beautiful. Very relaxing and peaceful, and we loved watching all the birds around the property. The house is close to state parks and the river for good kayaking and hiking. We also enjoyed fires in the beautiful stone fireplace. Definitely plan to return.
Enjoyed the relaxation of the property site. Reading books while drinking local wine from Botham Vineyard. The stars are amazing at night. We liked the local shops such as Opalman and the artists galleries. Talieson is worth the tour price. We hung out at the sandbars on the Wisconsin River though you can rent kayak or canoe too.
We enjoyed our stay, property was just as listed. There was plenty of room and the yard was great for the kids to run around. Thanks for a great stay, we look forward to returning!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Aldebaran Farm. Plenty of room for us as well as everything you need in the kitchen and bathrooms. Very close to Taliesin, can even see the barn in the distance from the front porch. If you are a birder, don’t forget your binoculars, there are so many birds on the property.
Really nice, historic Frank Lloyd Wright property close to the WI River and Governor Dodge State Park. Plenty of room for everyone in a large group and nice back patio for Grilling and camp fires. We would definitely stay again!

About the host
Hosted by Mike Lenehan
We're a retired writer-editor (Mike) and nurse midwife (Mary) who split our time between Chicago and Spring Green. Our family and friends enjoyed this house as a rental for years before we were able to purchase it in 2003. In 2016 we rehabbed the barn to the south for our own use and now we are pleased to share our Main House and this spectacular valley with others.
Why they chose this property
The Jones Valley (as it is called) is beautiful, well-protected, and historically and architecturally significant. We are directly across the road from Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece Taliesin and from a marsh and hillside populated by frogs, sandhill cranes, and grazing cattle. We're a longish walk and a quick drive from the Frank Lloyd Wright visitors' center and the Wisconsin River, and very close to the world-class American Players Theatre.
What makes this property unique
Aldebaran Farm is one of the few rentals in the area that will accommodate a large group (up to 12 people, depending on your sleeping arrangements). It's popular for family reunions, wedding groups, and theater weekends.
