Our most private and secluded Doves Rest Cabin. This amazing stone cabin is named in honor of Charles Goodnight, the legendary cattle rancher and inventor of the old-west chuckwagon. Goodnight took advantage of available grass, timber, and water near this cabin, and in 1876 founded what was to become the first Texas Panhandle ranch – the JA Ranch at Palo Duro Canyon. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of sights of high and low mesa steeps on how Charles Goodnight entered the canyon with hundreds of Longhorn cattle. Located a mere 100-feet from the state park boundary, Goodnight Cabin is the perfect for the most discriminating guests who enjoy interweaving historical perspectives of the old-west with the modern luxury of a Doves Rest Cabin.

Thank you very much Randall. It was a pleasure to host you and your wife and we hope your anniversary trip was unforgettable. Come back and see us again soon!
This place is beautiful and has amazing views of part of the PDC. It has all the amenities including a lovely hot tub. You wake up to the sunrise right outside the window. It’s a great place to stay. We will be back!
Our very favorite place to stay when visiting Palo Duro Canyon. You can’t beat the amazing views and proximity to the park entrance.
It is always spotless and we have everything we need while there.
The hot tub is a perfect way to end the day after many hours of hiking and biking. Highly recommend!
Charming, luxurious cabin that has all the amenities one needs to enjoy a truly spectacular location. I was here to photograph the Palo Duro Canyon and the lunar eclipse, and the low light pollution allowed a breathtaking night sky to emerge. The hosts were very helpful and responsive. It was a wonderful experience!
This cabin is amazing! We rented it for two nights and wish we have stayed longer. We spent each evening in the hot tub and watched the sunset, can’t get more relaxing than that. We plan on renting this property again.

Thank you so much for the great review and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us!
this way far exceeded my expectations, we loved everything about it.. the view was amazing, absolutely amazing.. loved the set up of the house and the privacy .. and the nice touches of the robes and cider ....this was my favorite for our anniversary :)
Everything was just as described on their listing. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary while here. The hosts were so kind, along with their wine and souvenir glasses they also brought us roses and goodies. The views were spectacular, wish we could have added pictures to this review. We look forward to returning sometime in the future to Doves Rest Cabins.
Cabin was better than described. It was perfect for my wife and I. Very clean and nicely appointed. Bed was very comfortable. Even though we weren't far from other houses, it felt like we were a thousand miles from know where. The view was nothing short of spectacular. It cannot be overstated. The proximity to the Palo duro state park wa very convenient. The only complaint I have is it's 7 hours from me.from me
This is a wonderful property! Perfect for two people. Very nicely appointed in all ways and quiet. It is convenient to Palo Duro Canyon which was our goal. The views from the back patio are beautiful and with little light pollution, the stars are amazing. We drove and brought all needed supplies with us: food, drinks, hiking gear, etc. Unless you want to drive back and forth to Canyon, TX, it helps to be a little organized and gives you more time to enjoy the area. There is also a small mercantile store as you turn on to the access road to the cabin that carries some items. Really a lovely property and highly recommend. Can't think of a single negative. You won't be disappointed!
What an amazing property. We stayed here for 4 nights and could not have asked for a better experience. The property itself is immaculate and supplied with everything you could need.
It is such a short trip into the Canyon park! We hiked and biked every day and then spent some time exploring around the house area after we got back. Never a dull moment. The hot tub felt amazing each evening after getting back from a fun day down in the Canyon. We can’t wait to come back!

Why they chose this property
Palo Duro Canyon State Park with it's Technicolor walls make for high-desert scenery more commonly seen in southern Utah. It offers more than 30-miles of hiking, mountain-biking and equestrian trails and an additional 1,500 acres set aside for horseback riding. You can bring your own horses so don’t hesitate to ask us about local boarding. Mountain bikers can experience the best single track in Texas and will enjoy the well maintained five trail heads networking for some 26-miles throughout the canyon ranging from "mild" to "wild" in technical ability - dirt, rocks, river rock, sand, wash-outs, switchbacks, drop-offs and climbs with alternative trail accesses throughout.
During the summer, enjoy a performance of the outdoor musical drama TEXAS. The play, nearing a half-century in its on-going production runs Tuesdays through Sundays, June through August, at the 1,700 seat Pioneer Amphitheater. Watch the stories, struggles and triumphs of early settlers. The family-friendly show has singing, dancing, fireworks and lots of Texas humor.
You'll find Doves Rest a place of amazing beauty, quietness and nurturing of soul & spirit. Palo Duro Canyon embodies Texas’ sense of place and spirit like few other areas in the state. Doves Rest Cabins is honored to provide the world’s only private overnight luxury accommodations to intrepid travelers, offering unique views and an iconic symbol of the American Southwest for our guests to enjoy. Wildlife diversity and abundance around Doves Rest is excellent, including populations of blue quail, bobwhite quail, Rio Grande turkey, bobcat, mule deer, white-tailed deer, Barbary sheep, coyote, roadrunners, skunks, rabbits and numerous songbirds. Fun memories and RELAXATION happen here!
What makes this property unique
Off the beaten path and outside of mainstream destinations, we are far from every other place to stay. We deliver an amazing guest experience that is truly authentic Texan, personal, and character-rich. Doves Rest Cabins is truly a unique base camp from which to explore one of the world’s most transformative place – Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Doves Rest Cabins is ideal for travelers who believe small is beautiful, and see travel not as something one does, but rather identifies it as part of who one is.
If private and quiet surrounded by nature with friendly wildlife nestled in your own little world only a few minutes away to the second largest canyon in America interests you, then you’re in the right place!
