About this property
Lovely Alpine chalet near ski bus stop, fabulous views, tablet pcs, free WiFi
A spacious self-catering chalet in the lovely French Alpine village of St Bon Courchevel in the world's largest ski resort of The Three Valleys. At 1100m altitude the chalet has stunning views and is only a couple of minutes’ drive to the fast ski lifts of Le Praz Courchevel 1300 which will whisk you onto the slopes! A good free ski bus service stops just 200 m from the chalet, and in good snow conditions you can ski back to the charming village of St Bon. The ski buses go straight to the Le Praz ski lifts, and on to other resorts. The first bus stop after St Bon is near the excellent ski lift station (the Alpinium) in Courchevel Le Praz (1300) where you can buy lift passes (either for the Courchevel valley, or for all the Three Valleys), get piste maps, bus timetables, get details of all events and entertainments, and it has ski lockers next to the lifts if you or your children prefer not to carry them around all week! The fabulous Aquamotion with its indoor surfing, wild rivers, water slides, climbing, beauty and wellness zones is just 10 minutes away. The massive Paradiski area at Champagny-en-Vanoise is less than 20 minutes’ drive, and it’s half an hour to the smaller resort of Pralognan. The Black Pearl Pizza restaurant (plus a take-away service), with its wood fired oven and vaulted ceiling, is only a 500 metres walk and the free resort buses run late into the night for visiting the many other restaurants, shops and bars in the resort villages. Chalet L'Orbeye is tastefully finished with plenty of room for up to 11 guests. All of the 4 bedrooms have wall-mounted flatscreen TVs including French and UK channels, a tablet PC complete with games and other functions and there is free unlimited WiFi in the chalet. The spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area is fully refurbished in Alpine style with a stylish wood burning stove on a stone hearth. Three new comfy leather sofas plus other seating let you relax to watch the Samsung 40 inch flat screen TV with Sky, French or UK channels after a long day on the slopes. There is a DVD collection of 50 movies, books to read, and games to play. The kitchen is fully equipped with hand made solid wooden units and includes a retro Smeg fridge/freezer, dishwasher, raclette set for apres-ski and everything you need to enjoy a self-catered holiday. Chalet L'Orbeye has its own integrated boot room with heated ski boot racks, an entrance from the garden plus internal stairs up to the living area which like the boot room and rest of the chalet has thermostatically controlled heating. There is parking on the driveway for up to three cars. There is a free bottle of wine to welcome you on arrival at Chalet L'Orbeye! The approximately 130m2 of accommodation which includes bed linen, towels, and an end of week clean comprises: Garden Level: External door, entry hall, heated boot room with heated ski boot racks, washing machine, tumble dryer, and stairs up to Ground Floor: Front door, light living room with 3 French windows, open plan with great mountain views, well equipped kitchen including induction hob, large Smeg fridge/freezer, large oven, microwave combination oven and dishwasher. Outdoors: own garden, two patios (south and north-facing), free outdoor parking for 2-3 cars on the drive. Entertainment: 5 TVs, DVD player with selection of DVDs, 4 tablet PCs, books and board games. Catering: Self-catering, and excellent pre-prepared meals can be purchased from Boucherie Du Praz (daily menu of Facebook) or from www.chaletkitchen.com .There is a good small supermarket in St Bon which is just a 5 minute walk from the front door across a quiet hidden open common in the heart of the village, going past the ancient baroque church. The St Bon supermarket bakes excellent croissants (great for breakfast!) and breads on the premises, and has a mouth-watering wonderful selection of local cheeses, a good selection of general provisions, plus some foods imported from UK! You could self-cater all week using this small supermarket, use the ski bus to the slopes (and other shops, restaurants etc.), have some of the great pizzas from The Black Pearl restaurant and decide not to bother with a car on your holiday! There is an excellent ski hire shop next to the St Bon supermarket (Courchevel Racing Center Ski & Golf) beside the second ski bus stop in St Bon. It looks after many of our guests with very good service (www.locationskicourchevel.com). Also there are small supermarkets in higher Courchevel resorts, and it is just 15 minutes to a Super U hypermarket at Salins-les-Thermes. High chair and 2 stair gates are available in Chalet L'Orbeye. If needed baby equipment (e.g. cot, bed linen) can be hired from www.HolidayBabyHire.com Sleeps up to 8-11, no smoking property and no single sex groups. Below the chalet is a small 1-2 person self-contained apartment with no access to the chalet.

Many thanks for your good review - and delighted that you found Chalet L'Orbeye to be a lovely location and very comfortable with good parking.
We booked this chalet for the week and had a lovely time here. Good location, and easy to get around. Local shop within walking distance. We had everything we needed supplied by the owners of the chalet, even a bottle of wine to welcome us.
Our second year at the chalet. The chalet is well appointed and conveniently located for the free shuttle bus to the lifts. An excellent holiday - again.
We had another pleasant stay at the chalet L'orbeye. We appreciate its warm atmosphere, its comfort (living room, bedrooms, bathrooms) and the calm of the village. Access (car) is easy.Easy and friendly communication with the owner.

Also it's great that you found the chalet to be cosy, comfortable and well decorated throughout.
This is our 2nd holiday in the chalet, and was as good as last time, we have had to cancel twice because of covid regulations and every time Julian has been more than fair with sorting everything out. I would highly recommend this chalet for family`s and friends alike.

Wonderful Christmas
We had the most amazing Christmas, the chalet was perfect for our family, it was very well equipped for self catering and perfect for the slopes. Everything in the chalet is very high quality from bedding to utensils, the bedrooms and bathrooms were also excellent. The owners have thought of everything a guest could need for a great stay, there were games, books and dvds. We would love to take our family again in the future.

Much better than the photos . More spacious than we expected. Very comfortable. A peaceful location with breathtaking views
Property information full and accurate.
Ideal for the free ski bus to the slopes.
We found two supermarkets in Courcheval Moriond which stocked all we needed, the ski bus stops right outside!
We are planning a return trip!
Second year here.
Chalet is exactly as described.
Very, comfortable, clean and well equipped.
Quiet , picturesque location.
Easy access to ski bus.
Fred, local ski hire shop, very good.
Used the well stocked small Carrefour in Moriond for our “supplies”, didn’t seem to be that expensive .
We’ll hopefully return.

Thanks for the excellent review and thanks for your repeat booking of Chalet L'Orbeye - and hope to see you again! Glad you found the chalet to be very clean, comfortable, well equipped with the easy access to skiing.
As chalets owners we know the pitfalls of renting a property. L'Orbeye is just beautiful. Large enough for a group, small enough to be intimate. I booked it for my Mother, sister and our children, could not have asked for anything more. Little supermarket 5 mins walk for baguettes and croissants, ski bus less than 5 mins away, 5 mins to Le Praz. And Julian a dream to deal with.

We really liked our stay in Saint-Bon. The chalet is superbe! Very clean, a lot of space, 4 comfortable rooms with own bathroom. Nice kitchen where you can find everything you need. We recommend the raclette from the local shop. It
was made with a lot of love and very tasteful. You can also use an equipment from the shop if you do not want to use the one in the chalet. Bus stop to ski was very close. We also loved the fire place in the evening. Everything was perfect!

Second time we booked at Chalet Orbeye, which says it all ! The chalet is welcoming, warm, and very convenient at the same time. Julian's communication is perfect.
Very well located, in St Bon - Courchevel 1100. Although ski lifts were closed because of Covid, this was the opportunity to discover there are plenty of other things to do in Courchevel and surroundings.
Thanks again for letting us enjoy holiday at your place Julian. Hope you'll be able to come over to France soon.

Thanks for the great review - that you had a great holiday again and found the location of Chalet L'Orbeye to be ideal!
We look forward to seeing you again!
We had a brilliant week in the chalet. We were a party of 6 adults and 2 young children, and the chalet provided us with everything we needed. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, with great views from the top two bedrooms. The main living area is super cosy with comfy sofas and a wood burning stove. The kitchen is very well stocked, allowing us to cook at home every night. The location is great - just a short walk to the local supermarket, which has everything you need. The bus stop outside is very convenient (once you've looked at the bus schedule), and allowed us to get to the ski area and the other Courchevel villages with no problems. We loved our stay here, and we'd love to come back again some time!

Thanks Jamie for the great review of Chalet L'Orbeye! Glad it had everything you needed for a great holiday, that it was convenient to get to the slopes, and we'd love to welcome you back in the future!
We had a wonderful time in Chalet L’orbeye. We are a family of five with 3 teenagers so plenty of space. A week in August was not long enough! The views from the property are spectacular and we were able to hike & bike directly from the chalet. We regularly played paddle in St Bon and went to both Bozel and Le Praz lakes. We road cycled and hired bikes from Le Praz for mountain biking. We also managed a long walk from the Vanoise National Park. We were blessed with hot weather all week though this is not always the case in the summer so come prepared! The owner was extremely helpful and even organised a new BBQ for our stay. Thank you Julian for sharing your wonderful chalet with us!
Eleven off us stayed in the Chalet, three generations of the family.
The chalet was clean well appointed and well located for the ski bus.
Three of the bedrooms are en suite and are impressive. The route from the airport to the chalet passes SuperU a big supermarket. Top tip place an online order to collect when you transfer.
There is a small convenience store in the village. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We got fresh baguettes and pastries every morning.
We want to book for next year and even book for the summer to enjoy the scenery without the snow. #Lovely.

Thanks for the wonderful review of Chalet L'Orbeye ! It does have a great location for quickly and easily getting to the slopes, plus good and easy shopping . You are correct - the scenery is fabulous in the summer - plus there is a bathing lake nearby in Bozel, barbeques at Lac Rosiere, and wonderful walks from the village and elsewhere!
From start to finish the booking, communication and quality of the chalet was excellent.
The chalet surpassed expectations, it is very well appointed with everything one could wish for and more than large enough to easily accommodate two families. Coming back after a hard day on the slopes we were greeted by a warm and cosy atmosphere.
Getting to Le Praz was a breeze on the ski bus which was only a short walk down the lane. The Black Pearl served great pizzas and the shop easily catered for our culinary needs. The ski shop by Fred was also very easy to access and the equipment was of a high standard.
Overall, we could not ask for a better experience and we will definitely be back. The only downside is that we had to leave.

Nice property, but the owner might hit you with extra cleaning charges
We enjoyed the stay. The room are as described and bed are comfortable, except the hot water stopped after 10pm for 4 nights. That was not very good for those took late showers before going to bed. Location is convenient.
However, to our surprise, the owner charged us extra for cleaning for reasons that are subjective and impossible to quantify. We stayed in AirBnb a lot and always have good rating in taking care of the property we stayed. This is the first time we had someone complained about us.
Be ware of being hit for extra charges if you choose this property.
Thanks

Dear Xuming, Thanks for your review confirming the great location of Chalet L'Orbeye and that it was as described and comfortable.
Immediately after being told about the hot water requirements the issue was fixed. We always respond promptly to the needs of our guests (but sadly these were not advised until the 4th night).
Chalet L'Orbeye is professionally cleaned for all our guests. Dated photographs were provided showing the huge amount of extra cleaning required after your party left - especially in the kitchen and some bedrooms. This unfortunate incident has not happened in the last 8 years (as shown in all our other guest reviews) and we're confident future guests will not be affected.
We're pleased that you found Chalet L'Orbeye to be a nice property and enjoyed your stay.
Best regards,
Julian

About the host
Hosted by Julian Braidwood
We are both retired vets that love beautiful countryside, mountainous scenery, and to ski! Our home is near the Lake District in the North of England, where we often go hiking. We were both born and lived in the South of England until we met at the University of Liverpool when we were veterinary students. After working in veterinary practice after a few years we found ourselves living near the Scottish border in Cumbria. Our three children all went to school locally, but have now all left home, and we now have one lovely grandchild. My parents were farmers and when they died we decided to sell the farm and look for a nice chalet in the Alps. In 2014 we fell in love with Chalet L'Orbeye and the next year was spent modernising and renovating the interior. Now we are looking forward to spending more time in our lovely chalet in the French Alps! We hope that you love it as much as we do!!
Why they chose this property
Chalet L'Orbeye has a fabulous location in the Courchevel valley for both winter and summer holidays. The skiing in Courchevel and the fully connected Three Valleys is world class and the largest ski area in the world. The scenery is stunning with snow topped mountains most of the year, and the village of St Bon is the original ski centre in the Courchevel valley with old buildings, a lovely church, and quiet walks. St Bon is still the administrative centre for the Courchevel valley and unlike the other nearby ski resorts has a good year round population. Other ski resorts such as Paradiski and Pralognon are easily accessible, and the spectacular Vanoise National Park is a must for nature lovers, hiking and for wildlife. It is also a great base for cycling holidays (road and mountain biking).
What makes this property unique
Chalet L'Orbeye was lovingly built by a local family that had lived in St Bon for at least three generations. The woodwork, some kitchen cupboards and original windows were made by the owner who was an artisan carpenter (and ski instructor!) so that chalet has a lovely homely feel, and is surrounded by its own Alpine garden. There are four balconies (one for each bedroom), the views are tremendous, and it is a great base for both winter and summer holidays. We had looked at many chalets, but the classic style of Chalet L'Orbeye, great location, and the Alpine wooden homely feel meant this was the chalet for us! In case you're wondering apparently Orbeye is the name of a tree! The location is perfect for getting to the slopes (just a couple of minutes) and has a free ski bus stop less than 200 m (you can see it in some photos which were taken from the chalet balconies).
