Yosemite retreat

What a great place to stay! It was a perfect location, right in the park. We never had to deal with entry into the park after we got there and were able to enjoy everything Yosemite offers. The house was very clean, had a lot of items in the kitchen as well as tons of ice trays! So important when you have lots of long distance hikes planned. My one teen was planning on sleeping on the futon but said it was very uncomfortable so she ended up sleeping on the couch. She said it was very comfortable and had no issues with that. And yes, there are 55 steps from to the house to the garage which is not fun climbing up all of them to leave every morning but it just added to the charm! If we are blessed enough to return to Yosemite we will be returning to this property!

Great location within Yosemite

We loved the house and location which put us 30 mins from almost any sight, waterfall, hike we wanted. Closest to Glacier Point Rd. We shopped for food in Groveland on our way in and we ate most meals there. We made and packed our own lunches as we would spend the day out in the park.

April Visit to Yosemite

We recently stayed for 5 nights at the "Yosemite Refuge" cabin located in Yosemite West. The cabin's location is excellent, situated within Yosemite National Park but nicely away from the busy crowds and traffic, making it a peaceful retreat. The cabin itself is well-appointed, comfortably heated, and features very comfortable beds, which made our stay enjoyable. However, potential guests should be aware that the cabin sits significantly below roadside level, requiring you to navigate approximately three flights of stairs (over 100 steps) each time you go to or from your vehicle. This important detail is not clearly indicated in the property's description, and it can be quite challenging, especially if multiple trips are needed to unload luggage or supplies.Overall, the cabin is lovely, but guests should prepare for the substantial stair climb when arriving or leaving.

Great landing pad!

Beds were comfy, location was convenient (30 minutes to valley, 30 minutes to mariposa). Loved cooking all of our own meals. The steps to the house were killer after 3 full hiking days but it is a mountain location so some elevation is reasonable :)

Great house

Very nice house located in Yosemite West within the park which makes it a great location for hiking trips in Yosemite Valley, Mariposa Grove and Glacier Point. The house is very comfortable and is a great place to relax after a day of hiking. We loved the deck outside and watching deer and chipmunks. The kitchen is very well equipped so we could cook full meals there. Great stay

Fantastic Cabin!

We had an amazing time while staying in Yosemite West. We had a party of 6 with ages ranging from 51 to 2 years old. The cabin is extremely well stocked with all pots, pans, cups, utensils, cooking ware, soap, detergent, paper towels and toilet paper. Plenty of towels for everyone. The cabin was extremely clean and well organized. All switches and outlets are labeled and the owner has provided a well organized binder full of helpful information. The home was extremely comfortable and located at the midpoint of all of our activities. For my fellow travelers who are from the City like me, please know that the wifi is spotty at best because you are in the middle of a forest. Only checking emails and receiving a few texts. Please make sure you pre-load any movies, videos or games for your little ones before you reach the park! Also, there is a tv / dvd player with a large selection of dvd’s but not a lot for little ones so you may want to bring a few with you. I did not see a crib, pack n play or high chair so please reach out to the owner if you happen to need these. There is also a large selection of games and puzzles which we enjoyed immensely. For those with mobility challenges, please know that there are stairs leading down to the cabin from the main road which some may find challenging. Luckily we had no issues with it. The communication and check in process was fast, and simple. Overall I would definitely stay here again!

Great location - nice remodeled house

Our party of two couples really enjoyed our stay at Yosemite Refuge. The house is nicely located to reach the Valley and nearby sites. The house was comfy with two bedrooms, each with adjoining bath, at separate ends of the upstairs hallway. We cooked in each night and loved the well stocked, open plan kitchen. The welcome binder contained helpful local info and hiking recommendations. And the sunset views from the living room across to the distant mountain range were amazing! Our only minor issue was the Owner was not very communicative on how we would receive our check in info. It would have been nice to have known what email address to look for (did not contain any part their name and went into spam). We also did not receive responses to VBRO messages. However the check in instructions, once found, were very clear and the directions to the house and info on what to expect were spot on. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

Great home base for Yosemite

This was our 2nd time renting this house and we’ll be back again. We go with 2 families (4 adults and 2 kids). Each bedroom has a futon/ foldout for 1 person which is perfect for us. Each family has a room and a bathroom, and plenty of space. It’s a 20 minute drive down to the valley, and if you get an early start you will not have a problem with parking. If you get a later start you can park nearby to one of the shuttle stops, but the NPS is still monitoring how many cars enter the park so it’s not too bad even if you don’t head down until midday. Be aware that there are summer blackouts and the power could be out a few hours. There are battery powered lanterns in the house, but you might want to bring your own flashlights if you want to try to play a board game or read during a blackout. Or if you’ve been hiking all day just go to bed early. If the power is out - just FYI, so is the hot water! You can tell the kids it’s to make it more like camping. We took bikes with us, and there’s plenty of room in the garage to stash the bikes when you aren’t taking them down to the valley, but you might need to take a hitch mounted bike rack off to close the garage door. We have a VW ID4 and we fit with about an inch to spare with the rack on, but plenty of room with it off. It’s a manual garage door so you can check before you close it.

Amazing location, peaceful and easy to drive to different trailheads. Property is well designed for 4 guests. We loved sitting on the balcony for dinner. However, we had some stressful evenings as we had two power cuts in three days, lasting 4-7 hours each, and at the time of day when everyone wanted to shower, eat dinner and watch TV so it was very inconvenient. Neighbours generators went on right away but we got a call from the owner to the landline in the first power cut and she said there wasn't one, but after the second cut we found one under the balcony. Someone who works for her came to help but there was no gas so he came back an hour later with gas to turn it on. We had some stressful calls over this as I was concerned about our 500 food for the 5 days and she told me that's why she said I had to get insurance and use the BBQ to cook. It sounds like it happens often enough that she should make better arrangements for the generator. We moved meat to the freezer and food did last but this impacted 2 of 5 nights that should have been relaxing holiday time. The balcony furniture hadn't been cleaned & there was a wasps nest in the umbrella that we got rid of. The leather armchair is peeling so we ended up with tiny bits of material stuck to us. Told us no clothes washing facilities in the whole park but hadn't shut the padlock on washer/dryer so we saw the house had them! Think unhelpful when ppl doing long stay. Also cheap was the diluted handwash & no surface cleaner.

Wonderful cabin inside Yosemite. We spent almost a week at the Refuge. The weather was unusually cool for July and we did not even need the A/C during the day. There was a day without electricity but so much to do in the park we didn't even need it, was back on by dinner time. Beautiful sunsets on the balcony patio and the side entrance. Communication with owner before and during stay was excellent. There is a steep walk down stairs from the garage to the cabin, so be prepared for that. Plenty of hand rails.

Convenient being within the park so no queues to get in or out. Relatively central albeit still 30 mins to any of the main sights. 50 steep steps to get from the road / garage to the property which bookers ought to be aware of especially given the altitude meaning going up was a struggle even without luggage. Not a new property but very clean and great response from the owner Lori.

Fantastic home base

This home was a fantastic base for our get away in Yosemite. Convenient location, super quiet, and beautiful sunset facing patio. House was fully stocked with paper goods, hand and dish soap, and towels. We had a one time issue with the breaker opening when the A/C, microwave and toaster were on at once. Other than that, no issues with the home. A super big convenience for us was an outlet in the garage to plug in our vehicle at night. Highly recommend.

If you’re looking to stay inside the park and avoid lines, this is a great option! Yosemite west is well situated to the most popular spots. The house is a bit rustic but that adds to the charm. Very comfortable considering you’re in the middle of a national park!
