Our stay was very nice. We needed a place to relax and spend the night after enjoying the afternoon at the CMP Park in Talledega. This historic house has a convenient location for restaurants and our visit to the Anniston Museums.
We had business in the area, and chose this property based on the reviews and proximity to where we needed to be. It was a good decision. The hosts are responsive and nice. Beautiful place with a lot of historical pieces.
Very nice experience..... Thanks!
Never received check-in instructions. Got in house and house was filthy. Cobwebs with dead bugs, cobwebs with live bugs, and spider eggs. Fleas crawling in two bathrooms, dead cockroaches in showers, pubic hair in one bathroom. Water leaking from ceiling in second floor. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Sent videos and pictures to VRBO and they upgraded my case to the health and safety department and told me to leave property immediately. Owner told me I complained too much and property was fine threatened me bc I forgot to update the amount of people/ages in my party (which did not exceed listed max capacity). He also threatened me with a lawsuit if I reported it. VRBO investigated and refunded my money, and gave me extra money to be able to use a hotel. I will say this, the kitchen was very nice - new appliances and appeared clean. That was about all that was clean tho. The owners stepdaughter was very nice too and so apologetic for what we were dealing with. Sadly, there was nothing she could do.
Such a beautiful house, and within walking distance to downtown Anniston. The owner is super friendly and easy to work with. This was their first time getting the property back on the market and a few loose ends were being worked out, but all communicated in advance and were not an issue. Look forward to visiting again next time we are in town.
While you’re at it, the same family also operates a great restaurant in town, Lulu’s Place. Check it out!
This house is huge. One of the best space/price ratios I have ever seen in a rental. The house's architecture is really cool - we liked the seats by the windows and stained glass. It's a nice mixture of historical house and furnishings with a modern kitchen. It's a new rental so there are a few rough spots - double oven and two refrigerators but no microwave, WiFi password didn't work, and a toilet seat was broken. The historical feel of the house is well preserved. My family definitely had some stories after this rental.
First, let me say that the home is beautiful. However, the maintenance of the property could be better. It is a beautiful, historic home that has wonderful character and charm. The housekeeping needs improvement, as there were cob webs, dead bugs, used bars of soap throughout the house. There were multiple light bulbs out as well. There was leftover food in the pantry and rotted onions in the pantry as well. The host was very nice, came to fix a broken toilet. Also came back to check on us. Overall, for the price, the house was great!

Liked: Check-in, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication
Disappointed
We chose this property based off of the excellent reviews about the property itself and the communication with the host/manager. While the manager did respond, we had to ask about the check in / check out processes. This information was not volunteered - we had to ask for instructions to know anything. The home was beautiful, but upon walking on the porch when we arrived there was leftover construction material (nails, wood, etc). There were dishes left in the sink, trash in the trash can, and spiders/webs in most windows and even corners of the rooms. Our bedding was clean, but the bathroom was not. The toilet lid was up and had splashes of bowel movements on it along with urine. The odor of vomit in the bathroom was so strong and lingered our entire stay. The shower looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for some time - even something as simple as pink soap scum left on the white tile. The glass door looked splattered (like the vomit may have reached the glass). There was no soap/shampoo/conditioner available in our bathroom, no hair dryer (most places have one, I didn’t think to bring my own - so just an FYI), and it was obvious that the floor in our room hadn’t been swept (leftover food crumbs in the floor). Gym wasn’t available. Construction crew showed up and started working at 8am after we even asked if we should be expecting anyone to come by and were told no.
