The town is at the mouth of the River Esk, and this old fishing port retains mush character in its winding streets and hidden alleys. There is a picturesque harbour, sandy beach and the famous Whitby Abbey. Close to other seaside destinations such as Scarborough, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby is also ideally placed for heading inland and exploring the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors National Park.
