Region: The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Town: The former quarry and lead mining village of Middleton is set on a prominent hillside above the nearby towns of Wirksworth and Cromford, just eight miles from the popular destination of Matlock. The village layout is composed of a long main street leading into nearby Wirksworth, which is home to a village shop and a good local pub. The surrounding countryside offers wonderful walking and cycling routes throughout the region, with the disused High Peak Railway line close by recently converted into a path known as the High Peak Cycle Trail. The nearby town of Matlock provides a good range of shops and pubs, whilst the many National Trust properties and museums throughout the area are not to be missed.
