Region: A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Town: A.E. Houseman's poem, A Shropshire Lad, defined Clun as 'the quietest place under the sun', and with its dramatic ruin of a Norman castle, Saxon church, the bustling river which flows under the 14th Century pack horse bridge, and a country inn, Clun is a rural gem situated in the South Shropshire Hills.

Tuc-Tin, not what it said on the Tin

We were very disappointed with Tuc-Tin because it had not been cleaned properly and the garden was overgrown. Cleaning: fire grate had not been cleared and hearth area was dusty; dust and cobwebs behind coffee tables, TV unit, dining table, bedside cabinets, dressing table and bed; oven needed cleaning; fridge was not ready for us - water lying in ice-box and one shelf broken; extractor fan in bathroom caked in dust (we brushed away the dust); dust on lampshades; tea/coffee spilt down wall between bathroom and kitchen (we wiped it down). Garden: the lawn was cut and half of the vegetable area cleared, otherwise beds and borders were overgrown with ground elder, dandelions, grass etc; this was not a "stunning" garden to relax in; the seat at the end of the garden overlooked the most overgrown area. Additionally: the "fridge freezer" is a fridge with an ice-box; the shower curtain is old and stained; there are no towel rails in bathroom - only place to hang them is over the shower curtain rail; nowhere to hang wet walking gear to drip/dry, even though Clun is in a reknowned walking area. We had no contact with the owner when we were at Tuc-Tin because we had no mobile signal. We sent an on-line review (similar to this one) to Sykes Cottages five days ago but have had no response. We would not recommend this property although it has been well renovated and is in an excellent location with good facilities in Clun.
