Stunning Old Rag and Shenandoah Vistas from this Gorgeous, Peaceful Retreat

Relax and spread out in this beautifully-appointed, comfortable, modern home, with three distinct levels. Located at the foot of Old Rag Mountain, in a little known paradise, a gateway to Shenandoah National Park. Four Fields Farm offers panoramic views from the spacious deck and almost every window, with the majesty of Old Rag front and center.

From the vantage point of this charming, rural property, overlook fields, natural meadows, and picturesque farms, you can leave the world behind. Kick back in the lower level family room, read a good book, cook a delicious meal in the well-appointed kitchen, share family time in the first floor great room, or head out to local wineries, breweries, fine dining, farmers markets, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, or visit historical venues.

Easy walks, lawn games, and bike rides on country roads are outdoor options, too. Shenandoah National Park's border is acres away, offering great hikes to graceful waterfalls or challenging peaks, with plenty of bird and wildlife watching all around. Seek further adventures nearby: Skyline Drive, Monticello, Three Blacksmiths. Inn at Little Washington, Luray Caverns, adorable downtown Culpeper, the Sperryville Marketplace, and so much more! You will never want to leave.

The kitchen at Four Fields Farm is spacious and well-equipped. There are plenty of pots and pans, dishes and silverware, as well as knives that are regularly sharpened. There are recycling bins in the laundry room. We strive to provide all the basic items to manage the house.

Laundry room--We stock laundry detergent, spot remover, fire starters, broom, dust pan, snow shovel (in winter), pest control, vacuum, and recycling center. We recycle aluminum, metal, glass, plastics and paper. The recyclable items are delivered by the host to the Madison County Transfer Station on a regular basis. The recycling containers are always emptied between guests.

Grill—There is a briquette grill. It is always inspected and cleaned between guests. We provide grilling utensils, briquettes, a chimney starter, and wooden matches.

Entertainment--The lower-level family room is great for watching TV or playing games, with direct access to the back yard.

Doggies--Many of our clients return every year because their dogs love the fenced-in backyard. There is also a mowed hiking trail to the Ponds at Four Fields, and other trails are in development. The trail to the Ponds is about a mile out and back. There is plenty of space and privacy for dogs to run and play.

Maintenance--Your host, Doug, was raised on a farm in Oregon, where he learned carpentry, truck, tractor, equipment, and irrigation repair. He built many sections of his own home and shop, builds furniture and cabinets in his woodshop, and helps friends repair their homes. This expertise has proven valuable so that the home at Four Fields Farm is in perfect working condition, with a focus on both preventative and regular maintenance.

Environment--Four Fields Farm is a fully certified Virginia Green Tourism Partner. This certification allows us to highlight our sustainable practices. We promote recycling, use of Safer Choice cleaning products, provide composting for kitchen waste, purchase Water Sense products, foster native plant species, and provide over 15 acres for wildlife habitat. In the coming year, we plan to install solar panels and an electric vehicle charger.

Firepit and Outdoor Options--We provide seasoned oak firewood and six Adirondack chairs for relaxing around the firepit. It has easy access from the main and lower level porches. There is also a charcoal grill, and we provide briquettes, chimney starter, matches and newspaper. The grill is cleaned between every guests, and is in excellent condition.

Hiking and Exploring--If you want to hike, there is a variety of information in the bookcase in the foyer, including USGS topo maps, books, and every trail map published by the Shenandoah National Park in a three-ring binder. We also provide short descriptions on many of the local hiking trails, restaurants, wineries, and breweries.

Proprietor--Doug is a friendly, conscientious, and devoted host. He and his wife Kim purchased Four Fields Farm on St Patrick’s Day in 2020. He brings passion, hard work, and professionalism to this role. With Doug living a mile away and being able to focus on the business full-time, Four Fields Farm is managed professionally and maintained with pride. This is not a parttime or side gig, or a remote job, it is Doug’s full-time job. He is available to answer any questions or immediately address any issues.

After each guest departs and before the next guest, Doug conducts a careful inspection of the home to ensure it is perfect for the next guest.

Doug and his wife are respected and appreciated in the community. They go to extra lengths to support local businesses, including farm markets, restaurants, wineries, breweries, shopkeepers, artists, and regularly sample the local food and drink scene. This allows Doug to provide up-to-date recommendations on local businesses.
