About this property
Spoil yourself at Strupak Cottage
Nestled between hills and Nelson city centre, this historic cottage is located in the safe, friendly residential neighbourhood of The Wood. Only ten minutes walk to Nelson city centre, the cottage is a private, peaceful and cosy home away from home. Offering the styling and quality furnishings of a boutique bandb at a fraction of the cost, this self contained cottage is ideal for couples looking for a romantic get-away or central base for exploring the Nelson region.
Retaining the original facade from 1866, the cottage has been renovated to provide a welcoming environment including a heat pump. The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with luxurious linens and electric blankets. The living room has a Smart TV, Freeview, free WiFi, DVD and stereo/iPod dock plus a collection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs. The well equipped kitchenette has a fridge freezer, microwave, Nespresso machine and 2 burner electric hob (no oven). Included are pantry basics plus a selection of locally produced goodies including Sublime plunger coffee, Pic's Peanut Butter, local Olive Oil, dukkah, gourmet mustard, jam and chutney. A sunroom with dining table and sofa overlooks the hills and lush private sunny garden.
The cottage is perfectly situated to explore Nelson’s rich array of boutique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants a pleasant ten minute walk away. This is a great base from which to explore the wider region – Mapua, Kaiteri and the Abel Tasman National Park - taking in wineries, galleries, beaches and beautiful countryside.
Closer to home is a dairy, post office, Bobby Franks Cafe and the Sprig and Fern tavern (a tiny pub with old-fashioned hospitality, open fires, boutique beers and board games). Take a walk along the beautiful Maitai River, stroll through the Queen's Gardens and Chinese Gardens, visit the Suter Art Gallery or Founders Historic Park and climb to the Centre of New Zealand for magnificent views over Nelson city.
The name Strupak Cottage (stroo-pack), is the Gaelic word for "tea, scones and conversation" offered to travellers.

About the host
Hosted by Roz Speirs

I have been welcoming guests to my holiday homes since 2004. I take great pride in renovating, decorating and maintaining each property to a high standard to ensure that they provide a comfortable home away from home for guests.
I emigrated to New Zealand from Scotland in 2002 attracted by Nelson’s wonderful climate and lifestyle. I met my husband here who was born and raised in Nelson and returned home after working in North Island and the UK. In addition to running the holiday homes, I am a glass artist (www.clarityglass.co.nz) and my husband owns a fishing and diving store. We live close to all the holiday homes so are on hand to sort out any little problems that might arise.
Having rented many baches and holiday homes over the years I know what’s important to guests: cleanliness, a relaxing outdoor space, comfortable beds and top quality linen for a great night’s sleep, and provision of the “little things” like pantry basics, kitchen roll, first aid kits and sharp kitchen knives!

There are great walks on the doorstep - up the centre of NZ for great views over the city, or more leisurely walks along the Maitai River.
What makes this property unique
Strupak Cottage has a lovely sunny garden with views of the hills, a lovely place for a morning coffee or to read a book.
