About this property
Romantic Cottage - Romantic paradise
This warm, tranquil, self catering three bedroom holiday home, with log fire is situated at Peketa, a small settlement 12 kilometres south of the Kaikoura township. You can bring your own linen or choose to hire linen for an additional charge. This property has no cleaning service so renters must clean before vacating. Close by is the excellent surfing beach at Kahutara. Open the large bifolding doors to a superb deck and outdoor entertainment area in a large private garden, fully fenced and safe for children. Solar lights appear magically in the garden once the sun goes down. The house is surrounded by trees where native birds, including the bellbird, and fantails abound. There is now two or three resident Tuis in the garden as well and occasionally Californian Quails appear on the lawn. The kitchen has most things you need, including a Nespresso coffee machine, spice rack and a Magic bullet, but sorry no dish washer. There is a sleepout in the garden where older children can stay with two bunks and a small deck.
There are plenty of activities nearby including a Lavender farm, bush and beach walks, star watching, restaurants, golf course, surf casting, fishing, snorkelling, diving and swimming. We now have an Eco Zipline for the adventurous thrill seekers in the Rakanui valley just behind the bach. The Mount Lyford Ski field is one hours drive and of course there is the whale watching, swimming with the dolphins.
Minimum stay during the week one night, weekends two nights.
There is a TV, including free Netflix, video, CD Player, washing machine, iron, gas BBQ and fridge/freezer.
Plenty of off street parking for boats and room for tents in the sheltered garden.
There is also a fish filleting area

Im born and bred in NZ and by renting out my holiday home occasionally it helps me pay for the upkeep. Now that I am retired I can also spend more time there which I never get sick of.
I enjoy sharing my place with visitors from NZ and all around the world and really delight in the fact that they're enjoying the place too, which increases the great energy I believe is present in the house and garden and the area generally....

Why they chose this property
Romantic cottage is nestled between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean in the small settlement of Peketa, just a short drive away from the township of Kaikoura. Most people visit to enjoy the fishing, diving, walks, whale watching and surfing that this area of the country provides, but there are lots of other outdoor activities to enjoy as well.
I love taking the boat out fishing, mainly catching Blue cod, Perch and occasionally Terakihi and putting the Cray pots out in the bay. We always come home with lovely fresh seafood. While out in the boat we see lots of different birds including the Blue eyed penguin, Mollyhawks, gulls, Cormorants and the occasional albatross. Of course there are usually Dolphins of various types, seals and this summer 2025 there have been several Orcas and we were able to watch two, an adult and young one fishing very close to the slip way in South bay! Several years ago whilst fishing in the boat quite close to shore by one of the tunnels a whale breached only several metres away from us which was just magical....

What makes this property unique
Great base for relaxing, fishing, diving and boating....The garden and outdoor entertainment area are popular with my visitors and relaxing outdoors at night with a glass of wine around the outdoor fire having a BBQ meal with the solar lights on is very special.....
It is very quiet and private. There is no light pollution so on a clear night the night sky is awesome....
