Bach/holiday home, old style charm, in the heart of South Bay
About Sally Grimmett
We are now retired but have promised our kids that we will never sell. Our kids and our grandchildren love playing into the rock pools, snorkeling in the bay, and eating crayfish and butterfish. Our kids loved swimming with the seals from an early age. Personally we enjoy sitting on the verandah and watching life go by.
Sally Grimmett purchased this House in 1991
Why Sally Grimmett chose South Bay
We come from the South Island and this property was our foot in the South Island. It still is for our kids who now live in the US and Singapore.
What makes this House unique
We liked the simplicity of the house, its spaciousness and easy living. It harks back to the 50's with the old style kitchen and bathroom and deep bath/shower.

Nice and clean the gas heater is very effective at heating the whole house.
Very relaxing loved waking up to seeing snow on the mountains.
Cute and homely
Loved the stay, especially being able to bring our dog. The property was well fenced, and the house was very cute and comfortable.
This little cottage is a cosy convenient retreat.... we picked it because it’s pet friendly. Fully fenced, close to the beach, we had 2 magical days in this area.
We loved the cottage, especially the later leave time of 3pm as we went out fishing in morning, great place for a weekend getaway.
South Bay Anzac escape
A great spot, handy to the boat ramp, well appointed and warm 😊
Perfect Kiwi Batch lovely that such places still exist. Warm and cozy. Great location with rock pools to explore, safe sea swimming for children, over the hill and back via exciting walk on the coast weaving through basking seals. We had such a great holiday.
Kaikoura is an area of rich marine life surrounded by the majestic Kaikoura Ranges. View the whales, marine birds by boat and/or swim with the dolphins, seals or take fishing excursion to catch your own dinner. Kayaking and snorkeling/diving is another option.
There are short walks along the beach and harbour areas where something is always happening, or longer striding walks around the peninsula headlands and beaches to view the seals up close. Finish up with a crayfish sandwich at the ood carts at Jimmy Armers Beach.
