About this property

Beautiful French Style Cottage with an Outdoor Bath


360 degrees views of stunning mountains and vineyards. We have 3.5 acres to enjoy.
Beautiful , private historic property with stone fences, rock crops, native birds
and the distant sound of the river. You can soak all this up in your own outdoor bath for two people or sit by the outdoor fire tasting some of our local wine.
We are close to the cycle track, Kawarau river, original Bungy bridge, ski fields and historic Arrowtown, with it's restaurants and shopping.
Situated across the road from Kinross, where a restaurant/winery and bike hire is available.
From Gibbston you can explore many wonderful areas, summer or winter.
Have your camera ready for the many lakes, rivers and roads to wander.
Ski fields close by Coronet, Cardrona and Remarkables.




Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition we appreciate if you leave the cottage tidy. Also if you bring your dog it must be well behaved and not left in the cottage for long periods while you go out.

Rustic country retreat

The Boathouse is a special dream for a creative couple. It is gorgeous and so authentically French in style you could be in Bordeaux somewhere. The huge outdoor bath while you watch the stars is a special experience. Warm and friendly communication from the hosts. A short drive to Arrowtown. Highly recommended.

We have stayed across the road at Kinross for years and are glad we tried things out across the road at this bach. Loved our stay and looking forward to returning!

An amazingly pretty corner of Gibbston Valley!

A hidden gem! Quite a dainty cottage! The outdoor bath is heavenly! Well looked after section is fenced so our dog could run free on the property and explore. 🐶There also is a vege patch and many fruit trees there. I enjoyed few sweet pea snaps 😋 and fresh cous lettuce. There’s an outdoor dining area where we enjoyed our meals. We surely will go back.

Little piece of paradise.

The boathouse visit was one of the most beautiful stays we could have hoped for. Gorgeous rustic french style vibes. The location is idyllic and surrounded by stunning vistas and countryside. Real retreat

Thank you for the most beautiful stay, we have loved The Boathouse & all it had to offer, we took advantage of the amazing outdoor bath & outdoor fireplace, together with the surrounding attractions. We even made an 🍎 🥧 😋.

Faultless. Absolutely beautiful, peaceful, tranquil but oh so close to excellent wineries and food. Our dog just loved the freedom of being able to wander around in the fully fenced large section, all the while chasing the bunnies. Communication with owners was fluid and easy. So easy to have stayed longer and we will definitely return.

Paradise in the Gibbston valley

We absolutely loved our stay in this gorgeous valley in central Otago. The Boathouse is an absolute delight - beautifully decorated, warm and comfortable, with everything you might need. The property is perfect for dogs, and Shelley, Neil and Dudley are lovely hosts - very warm and welcoming, and full of suggestions for local walks and bike rides . We will definitely be back for another stay!

Cosy Autumn retreat

Absolutely loved the Autumn colours of the surrounding and the very European atmosphere of this lovely and super cosy cottage. Great hosts too, with the addition of the cutest of dogs ; ) Sure to be stunning in all seasons... and we'll definitely be back!

Exquisite in every way

Every detail conceivable and full luxury right down to the linen sheets; the spontaneous idea to have a soak in the outdoor bath, under the stars and moonlit at 4am was unforgettable, Dudley the dog adorable beyond belief, the sound of the river rapids rushing in the distance - and totally authentic French style; we’ve all been to France with two of us having lived and worked there - if you can’t get to France come and luxuriate at the BoatShed - you will absolutely and utterly be back in the South of France.... thank you so much from all of us.

Picture-perfect French-style cottage in Gibbston

We had an amazing time staying in Shelley and Neil’s property. Communication and check in was easy. Everything had been thought of and we appreciated the excellent quality furnishings as well as the outdoor area to soak up the sun and views. Our dogs loved the fully fenced land and all the nearby walks. The outdoor bath is a must if you stay here. We would love to visit again!

If you want an escape away from your hectic life, The Boathouse is the place to visit.
We are a short drive to anywhere you might like to explore but you don't need to leave the valley as there is great food and wine right here and you don't even need to get into your car as most of them are within walking distance.
We are also happy for you to bring your dog if it is well behaved, but please message first!

What makes this property unique

Situated in the Valley of Wines, where e-bike hire is available and you can enjoy cycling the Gibbston River Trail which winds along the majestic Kawarau River. It is a scenic ride to Arrowtown. You can stop at some of the best wineries in the region for wine tasting or lunch. There is also shuttle transport and cycle tours if you wish.
