About this property

Cosy, Warm Bungalow by the Sea

A very comfortable and warm bungalow with beach access to a beautiful beach. The bungalow is just 15 minutes drive south of Dunedin's CBD and 7 mins to the nearest supermarket.
The property is safe for children or a pet and is 20 minutes away from the Taieri Mouth fishing village and the scenic Millennium river walking track. Brighton Beach is a great surfing beach nearby.
Please note that our house is also on this property but we respect guests' privacy.

If you are bringing a dog/dogs, the conditions are as follows:
Please let us know you are bringing your dog when inquiring or booking.
Their own bedding is required
Dogs are not allowed on our bedding or furniture.
They must be supervised when outside unless tied up as the entire property is not completely fenced

Great for short breakaway - or longer

We stayed 4 nights but could have been comfortable for longer, it really had everything we needed to be a home from home. Loved being so close to the sea with beach access direct via the owners garden.

Fantastic place to stay!

Cozy bungalow

Karla & I had a great time at Brighton Beach. The bungalow was a wonderful place to stay, Joanne has provided in every way for the comfort and satisfaction of guests. We will definitely be recommending this place to any of our friends coming to New Zealand.

Dunedin weekend

Very tidy and have all available amenities in place and have quick access to the beach; very good location and not far to drive to cafes, other beaches, etc. A bit noisy from cars on the road which is just normal and not affected us. Had enjoyed our stay and was able to relax well. Will definitely recommend the place to our friends and relations.

We stayed in the middle of winter, what a warm, cosy, light, modern haven! Everything you could need was right at hand. And the garden was very pretty to enjoy the morning coffee in. Hosts were so helpful, good kind Southern people. Five stars.

Wonderful OceanView week

Janne and Ray are the perfect hosts. They made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The cottage was exceptionally well equipped with all the little extra that you never think of when you first arrive. The property was very clean and well organized with ample storage for all of our gear. There was a washer and dryer in the bathroom and even laundry detergent was supplied. The shower had great water pressure and the bathroom itself had extra storage. The bed was very comfortable and the space in the living room would be ample for four people to sit comfortably. Our unit was fully equipped and self contained; food preparation a breeze with a fridge and stove in the kitchen plus a barbecue outside. There were two very private outside sitting and eating areas. Janne and Ray are enthusiastic gardeners so the outside areas were like a little paradise. Not far from the cottage, via the private path access, is a beautiful and uncrowded beach on which one can walk for miles and enjoy the Pacific air. We highly recommend this property to anyone who enjoys a quiet retreat and beachside ambience... and well as wonderful hosts; we would like to visit again! Thank you, Bob and Isabel

Little seaside home-from-home. Lots of thoughtful touches (the electric underblanket being one), little private backyard with full morning sun. Minutes from a stunning long dog-friendly beach, and a great location to explore the area.

Spotless, beautiful and on the beach

Even better than the website. Everything was spotless and comfortable. Easy drive into town for groceries and so much to do in the Dunedin area.Prebook penguins as they sell out fast. At least a month in advance.Only negative for me (as a Canadian) is the beds were European firm. If you know, you know.Would highly recommend this place.

Lovely Bungalow

This is a very cozy place to stay. The bungalow was very well furnished so it was easy to feel at home. It's a 5 minute stroll to a beautiful sandy beach. I would definitely come back again!

A cute little cottage. We enjoyed walks along the beach and a swim (despite the coolish weather). Easy access by car to Dunedin. Good cooking facilities.

We moved to Ocean View in 2018. Our property is perfect for us, being by the sea and a short drive into Dunedin which offers so much in the way of art and culture.
Janne grew up in Dunedin before leaving to teach in Canterbury, North Otago, Central Otago and much closer to home - Brighton- now known as Big Rock. Ray grew up in Melbourne and has spent much of his life as a stonemason in Queenstown.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property for the specific reason that it has a house as well as a self contained bungalow providing us with the choice to use the bach for additional accommodation for family or for guests.

What makes this property unique

The bungalow provides us with the opportunity to meet travellers and others who are here to visit for events, holidays and concerts. The property has beach access which we particularly love.
