About this property

Studio 74: Spacious Retro-inspired Country Escape

Step back into a golden era of vintage 1970s disco glam at this mid-century pad in the urban bushland of Mount Clear, Ballarat. Pairing timber panels with sepia-toned furnishings, this three-bedroom home evokes a sense of nostalgia the moment you walk through the door. Live like the 70s in a contemporary experience that features unique decor, a private patio with gum tree views towards Canadian creek, plus you'll be just seven minutes from the historic Sovereign Hill which opened in 1970.
Lovers of mid-century architecture (Robin Boyd, Frank Lloyd Wright, Palm Springs) and retro styling will appreciate Studio 74. Built in 1974, this spacious stay is an original modernist three-bedroom home with timber panelling, exposed brick, shag carpets, and eclectic furnishing original to the 1970s.

Take a trip down memory lane in this groovy pad designed for relaxation and entertaining alike. When board games, reading material and a record player aren't keeping you busy, you can chill in the bright and sunny living room and watch TV from the comfort of the purple velvet lounge. A gas heater will keep you warm during the colder months.

The kitchen boasts original burnt orange tiling and has everything you need to whip up meals at home, including a fridge, freezer, stove, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and other cooking essentials like pots, pans and utensils. The 70s vibe continues in the adjoining dining area with patterned rugs, an orange hanging light fixture, wood panelling and a mid-century table.

Open the glass doors and head out to the balcony, where a vintage six-seater setting offers a relaxed space to enjoy meals alfresco. The outdoor area also features a fire pit and BBQ grill, with views overlooking the treetops of the Canadian State Forest.

Three light-filled bedrooms sleep six guests and offer plenty of warmth come wintertime, with bar heaters and electric blankets. Two bedrooms feature a queen bed, while the third bedroom has a double bed and a desk for work or study. The bathroom features cheerful, peach-coloured tiles as well as an iconic 1970s sunken bathtub to take a relaxing soak.

Free parking is available onsite as well as on the street.
During your stay, you and your group will have the entire home to yourself. Please make yourself at home!

Enjoy chilling in the digs after exploring the smorgasbord of activities in the bountiful Ballarat goldfields region. All the sights of the Ballarat CBD are less than 10 minutes’ drive, including the Botanical Gardens and the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Adjoining the gardens is the popular recreational destination of Lake Wendouree, which offers scenic walks as well as picnic tables and BBQ facilities.

Just south of the city and around five minutes' drive from the house is Sovereign Hill, an open-air museum that brings to life Australia's great 1850s gold rush. The site holds an extensive collection of art, furniture, textiles and other items from the era and provides a great family day out.

Woowookarung Park, Ballarat’s newest nature reserve, also features Australia’s first dementia friendly gentle sensory walking trail accessible for everyone.

The property is also close to Federation University, Technology Park, and near a direct bus route to the CBD. Federation Universirty/Technology Park and the delightful village of Buninyong is also on the bus line or a short drive away.

Due to local regulations, we can happily host you for up to 90 nights. Any bookings that exceed this duration will be cancelled by Vrbo.

We are pet-friendly - please let us know about your furry friend at the time of booking and we will reach out to charge a pet fee of $100.

Really enjoyed the retro experience of the 70s feel. Walking distance to supermarket and a shout drive to the main road. We all enjoyed ourselves
