My small group of 3 stayed at this property in July. Check in was very easy. The home is comfortable and clean. The kitchen is outfitted well and the bed that I used was very comfortable. The location is very rural but makes for a nice mid way location to St. Ignace, the bridge, Tahquamenon Falls, etc. We actually even saw shooting stars from the back deck. I would not hesitate to stay again if in the area.

Perfect place for a friend’s reunion

Property was great for six friends regathering after ten years to go snowmobiling. Perfect location to the trail… short run into Hulbert for fuel, food, and beverages. House was well equipped and all the amenities we needed.

Spacious with home-like feel

The home was nice and open and provided room for all 7 of us. It felt very home-like and comfortable. The home was well stocked with necessary items. The only issue was the AC was not working and we were not informed of the issue until a couple hours prior to check in.

Eckerman house

The residence was built by my 100 year gentleman that is why we rent it. I manage a vacation rental. And we stay in a lot of them when we travel all over the world. The house on Eckerman Rd. has new paint and carpet and is pretty well maintained inside. The outside has no curb appeal, weeds in all the rocks, the roof shingles are in bad shape and there are a couple evident leaks, there is lichen moss growth all over the house sliding, the windows were so dirty we could barely see outside (I needed to clean the upper slider), and the deck needed a sealer on it. Inside there were cheap curtains that don't work, rips in the pull down shades, stains on the lazy boy, dirty fingerprints on the doors, Dirt, bugs, and leaves in the slider tracks. Dusty window sills.We did dishes by hand, there was no pods for the dishwasher. Twin bed main floor needs a mattress cover.The decor was not appealing... It looked liked someone went down to the 5 and dime to decorate. The chairs downstairs were all worn out. The bistro table was to high for some people, and was stained by hot plates. On the positive side it was well stocked with clean pots and pans, dishes, glasses, and utensils. The was some coffee and a pot there, spices (the salt was empty), bedding was Ok... Sheets were a little cheap. Bedding was clean and made well. Charging cords a plus. Pen and paper a plus.TV's were great...but couldn't get local channels(One of the remotes had dead batteries). The large sectional was nice. I expected a little more for over 1000.00 for 3 nights. The renters for my rental check in at 3:00 and check out at 11:00. 4 hours to clean between. If they can't clean it in 4 hours there is an extra charge. Most people are cheap and will pickup after themselves. 250.00 to clean and stock is outrageous. We left it better than we found it. My gentleman loved his cottage. He still loves his cottage. I said none of this to him. To him he saw only the place he loved. Would he come back? Yes, he loves it so much! Would I come back? It has good bones, but needs more attention for that kind of money. If my gentleman makes it to next summer we will be back. It is where his heart is.

Central location for our family of 4 to stay while visiting the area (Tahquamenon Falls, Soo Locks, Kitch-iti-kipi, Munising/Pictured rocks). If you find this available, definitely consider booking. There are so few options in the area unless you are camping. Two things to know, the home is right off of one of the main highways (so there is a bit of road noise) and because you are remote, there is a very slow DSL Internet connection (15-20 Mbps download/1-2 upload), with no cell coverage for AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon. Good news is if you drive 5 mins in either direction, your cell coverage will improve (though just generally spotty in the UP area). And while we picked up groceries in St Ignace, there was (kind of randomly) a McDonalds and Pizza Hut about 15 mins down the road. The home was huge and there is plenty of room, 2.5 bathrooms, and the mini split AC was in the family room and worked exceptionally well (we kept the basement door open) with no issues in 85 degree days. Each bedroom also had a radiant baseboard heater (which we didn’t use). Would absolutely stay here again!

If you are looking for somewhere to stay for side by side or snowmobiling book this place. The trail access is right across the street and Hulbert is a perfect town.
