About this property

The Geode House - Bush Retreat Near Whakanewha

Summary:

The Geode House is an architecturally designed retreat set quietly within native bush. Calm, private, and thoughtfully detailed, the home is designed for slowing down, reconnecting, and settling into the natural rhythm of Waiheke. Recognised nationally for its interior and architectural design, it offers a peaceful place to rest, reflect, and spend time together.

The Space:

The Geode House is a design led retreat shaped around light, landscape, and quiet moments. Surrounded by native bush, the home feels grounded and private, with soft natural light moving through the interiors and outdoor spaces throughout the day.

The house has been nationally recognised for its design, receiving a 2023 Living Space of the Year award for interiors and being named a finalist in the Home of the Year architectural category. These accolades reflect the care and intention behind the layout, materials, and overall sense of calm the home offers.

Inside, the living areas are warm and inviting. A full kitchen sits alongside the dining space and relaxed living room, with a wood burning fireplace providing comfort during cooler evenings. Large windows frame the surrounding bush, keeping the connection to nature present in every room without feeling exposed.

There are three distinct sleeping spaces. Two enclosed bedrooms each feature king beds and offer privacy and comfort. A third queen sleeping nook sits just off the dining area, separated by a screen divider, making it well suited for close family or friends sharing the space.

The main bathroom is centrally located, with a second toilet positioned off the laundry for added convenience.

Outside, a generous deck and cedar hot tub provide a quiet place to unwind. This area is ideal for long evenings, birdsong at dusk, and slow mornings surrounded by bush.

The Neighborhood:

The Geode House sits in a peaceful setting close to some of Waiheke’s most beautiful natural areas. Whakanewha Regional Park is only minutes away on foot, offering bush trails, coastal forest, estuary walks, swimming spots, and native birdlife.

A short drive brings you to some of the island’s most loved vineyards and breweries, including Tantalus Estate, Te Motu, Stonyridge, Wild on Waiheke, and The Heke, each offering their own take on long lunches, craft beer, wine tasting, and relaxed outdoor dining.

You’re also within easy reach of Onetangi Beach, Omiha, and the cafés, shops, and eateries of both Ostend and Oneroa.

Getting Around:

There is easy parking at the property for guests who bring a vehicle.

Regular bus services run between Onetangi and the ferry, stopping near all major wineries including The Heke, then continuing through to Oneroa Village and the Matiatia passenger terminal.

Taxis and rideshares operate island-wide but can be limited during peak times.

Other Things to Note:

The property operates on rainwater tanks, so guests must be mindful of water use, especially in summer.

Our Stay Waiheke team is available seven days a week from 8:30am to 5pm.

Beautiful tucked away home away from home. Beds were luxurious. Hot tub was lovely. Loved being able to cook with good quality cookware. The location worked great for our group of three. We had access (by car) to great establishments for food, wine and beaches! Just be aware there are a lot of stairs. But someone with a bad knee could use the other stairway which is a bet gentler on the knees. Quiet and comfortable place to stay. Whoever picks this place will be happy, comfortable and have a beautiful space to breathe and read a book tucked into the mountains.
