We had a wonderful time there with many day trips - Red Gate, Wildplay, Transfer beach, Nanaimo biking, Marie falls, Roberts Memorial, Elliot beach, Old Town Bakery, Biking to Owl’s Nest Cafe, and sight seeing in Chemainus. Lots packed into 5 days! The house was perfect - lots of board games in a calm and air conditioned environment with many cups of coffee on the deck. We loved the vinyl collection! It was great to listen to all the oldies from my childhood while we stayed here. We were tempted to add some Fleetwood Mac and CCR to complement the collection!. We would definitely recommend this place!

Very clean VRBO, accurate description online. Fit our needs while visiting from the states. A few things: could use throw blankets for guests to use on the couch or snuggle up with, makes for a much more inviting experience. The main downfall-The downstairs shower/tub combo is less than desirable. We would recommend spending the money to rip it out and put a walk in shower in. My husband two sons are all over 6 foot, large athletic “men”. This shower was a challenge for them. 1- you have to step up into it 2- there is zero arm space to move around with the shower curtain sticking to you. 3- the water pressure was not good due to the hose like nozzle. With it being the only shower in the house we under stand why you want to keep a tub to keep it family friendly but the shower is not going to accommodate elderly people with the stepping in and out and zero space to move about. The down stairs toilet seat kept popping off. We tried to get it tightened however it still wouldn’t hold. The primary bedroom downstairs bed should be to be a king and raised off the ground. Also was hard to get in and out of bed especially for elderly guests. The upstairs queen was on a real frame no crates and would do better down stairs if you don’t want to upgrade to a king. The reason for a king, our youngest son wanted to sleep with us, he was scared sleeping upstairs. In a king bed he would fit but the queen was out of the question therefore he slept on the floor, another reason for blanket’s.

We’re an adventurous family of four who love spending time outdoors and exploring all the beauty Vancouver Island has to offer. Whether it’s hiking, camping, climbing, or beachcombing, we’re usually outside making the most of every season. I’m a lifelong soccer fan and still love, while my partner enjoys yoga and trail running through the island’s many forest trails. Our two girls are full of energy and curiosity—they love gardening, rock climbing, and biking around the neighbourhood. Hosting gives us the chance to share a bit of our nature-filled lifestyle with others by allowing them to use our home as a base for island adventures.

Why they chose this property

We chose this neighborhood because it's centrally located on Vancouver Island, making it the perfect base for all kinds of island adventures. Whether we’re heading to the mountains, the beach, or exploring nearby towns, everything feels within easy reach. We're just a short drive from the airport, BC Ferries Duke Point, and Departure Bay terminals, which makes travel incredibly convenient. At the same time, the area has a quiet, rural charm that we love—surrounded by forest, fresh air, and a peaceful sense of space. It’s the best of both worlds: easy access to everything, with the tranquility of a nature-filled setting.

What makes this property unique

Our property is a magical, nature-filled oasis that offers a peaceful and private retreat from the busyness of city life. Tucked away among massive cedar trees and vibrant flora, it feels like a hidden sanctuary. You'll hear the sounds of roosters and nearby horses, spot hummingbirds and eagles above, and often see bunnies grazing on the lawn. The property includes a beautiful food garden, berry bushes, and fruit trees—guests are always welcome to help themselves to a taste of what's in season!

What makes our place truly unique is its old-world charm, with distinctive German-style architecture and custom rockwork that give it character and warmth. While it’s not perfect, we’re slowly and lovingly bringing it back to its former glory, one project at a time. The space is full of soul and history, offering a cozy, authentic experience in a quiet, natural setting.
