About this property
NEW LISTING! "One Love": Extraordinary Beachfront Villa and Cottage.
One Love is an art and light filled Abaco style compound with fabulous views from virtually every room. The main house features an open plan with mahogany kitchen cabinets and counter tops and S/S appliances. The dining room table comfortably seats eight. The living room is designed with a sense of "barefoot elegance." It opens onto a huge screened porch with ample seating for sea gazing, outdoor dining, or simply lounging on one of the comfortable recliners.
A large master suite, which also faces the sea, is located on the first floor with an en suite bathroom, double sinks and a "grotto" walk in shower made from locally sourced cut stone. Upstairs there are two very large bedrooms with a shared bathroom facing the sea and a cozy study decorated with colorful Caribbean art and African artifacts.
All main rooms and bedrooms have their own split-unit air conditioners and ceiling fans. During the cooler months the entire property benefits from the ever-present Long Island breeze, making A/C use unnecessary.
The main house is sited directly on the beach in a calm, shallow, bay perfect for swimming year round. Because of its proximity to the water, when inside the house it feels like you are on a boat. Since the house faces East/West, the front porch is the perfect spot to catch the prevailing SE breeze throughout the day. The back porch is the place to watch the ever-changing hues of the sea and, of course, the amazing sunsets. At night, stargazing is surreal due to the absence of light pollution in this part of the Bahamian archipelago.
Outside there is a large gazebo and full outdoor bathroom, both facing the sea. Coconut palms have been planted to provide shade in the gazebo from the afternoon western sun, making it a great spot to enjoy a cocktail while grilling on the huge fireplace/ BBQ.
Detached from, but adjacent to, the main house is a beautifully decorated "jewel box" cottage which has its own, large, mahogany kitchen and dining counter. This is the perfect place for a couple to retreat to escape the "crowd" of the main house when a large group is in residence. Like the main house, the cottage is art filled and contains every amenity found in the house. Please note, however, that rental of the cottage is NOT included in the per night rate of the main house. For groups larger than 6 people the cottage can be rented with the main house to accommodate another 2 people but at a separate nightly rate of $200/nt..
Adjacent to the house is a boat ramp for launching a small boat. A private mooring is available should you wish to rent a boat and keep it in the water during your stay. A laundry room with large washer and dryer is also available to wash clothes during your stay.
One Love is centrally located on the island with easy access to grocery and liquor stores, gas station, restaurants, car and boat rentals and a well-provisioned marine store. Throughout the island there are many expert fishing, diving, and tour guides who can help you experience the beauty and bounty of the surrounding waters.
Long Island is a true Bahamian treasure. It is a bit like stepping back in time to a place that has everything you need, nothing you don't. Life is slower here, allowing time to savor the views, the smells, the tastes, the culture. People "hail you" as they drive by. Goats roam free. The beaches are legendary, and almost always empty. Best of all, the people are warm, polite, respectful, and welcoming, always quick to strike up a friendly conversation or lend a helping hand.
Allow the rhythm of this special place to nourish and re-charge your life. We hope you will connect with the vibe of One Love and return whenever you need a reminder of what is truly important.

My husband and I have owned this property since 2007. Construction of the house was completed in the summer of 2015. Since that time our family has experienced much happiness and peace at this special place on this magical island.
My husband was born and raised in Jamaica and has always had "island life" in his DNA. When we discovered Long Island he was immediately transported to the Jamaica of his youth. It was, and is, the simplicity of life here and the ability to savor life's pleasures in a safe, welcoming, almost mystical place, which led us to put down roots. Those roots have long since taken a firm hold.....

Why they chose this property
Our bay is calm, shallow and very private. It is a wonderful place to kayak and paddle board. Because we are on the calm, leeward, side of the island, the water is perfect for swimming and lounging year round. The bay also has its own blue hole which is easily reached by kayak or paddle board and where you can often spot turtles. I am told that in the area of the Blue Hole (down the shoreline to the right as you face the sea) there is excellent bone fishing as well.
What makes this property unique
One Love is secluded, yet close to everything. It is in a small community of homes, almost all of which are owned by members of the same wonderful family. Most of the adjacent homes are used as vacation homes by their owners who live in Nassau and are not in residence year round. If they happen to be visiting during your stay, please take a minute to introduce yourselves as you will find our neighbors to be warm, generous, and hospitable people.
You will notice that the porch brackets and gable pediment are all of mermaids. This is because, when we bought the property, our neighbors had 2 identical twin girls, age 6, who would live in the sea in front of our lot. On our return visits we watched these beautiful girls grow up as sirens of the sea. Both daughters of a fisherman, equally at home in the sea as on land. These mermaids are now enrolled in university in the US, but their spirit lives on at the property and serves as a reminder of when they swam and played in the sea with total freedom and joy.
