Thrums Retreat – A Secluded Bush Haven in Upper Orara Valley

Welcome to Thrums Retreat, a peaceful 140-acre bush sanctuary tucked away in the stunning Upper Orara Valley. Surrounded by native forest and birdsong, this relaxed country retreat is perfect for families, couples, or solo travellers seeking space, privacy, and a genuine connection to nature.
Thrums is not luxury accommodation, but it is a comfortable, clean and well-loved home with a warm “home away from home” feel — ideal for guests who value tranquillity, simplicity, and the beauty of the Australian bush.
Your Journey to Tranquillity
Located approximately 25 minutes from Coffs Harbour and the charming village of Coramba, Thrums is accessed via a 1 km unsealed driveway, recently resurfaced and suitable for standard vehicles in normal conditions. For first-time visitors, we recommend arriving during daylight to enjoy the scenic ascent and ensure a relaxed arrival.
Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping bushland views, complete seclusion, and the calming sounds of nature.

About the host

Host profile image
I’m a Shire girl from Cronulla. I co-host Thrums with my brother and sister-in-law. This home belonged to my late mother, who cherished it deeply. Hosting allows us to share the warmth and memories of her beloved space with others while providing a place for our family to escape and create new memories together.

Why they chose this property

The area is truly exceptional, surrounded by national parks. You can enjoy swimming and hiking while being close to the beaches and all the essential amenities in Coffs Harbour. Additionally, you can visit the Coramba township, which features a great pub for lunch or dinner and entertainment on weekends.

What makes this property unique

Thrums is a unique place that may not be luxurious, but it has all the essentials for a comfortable stay. It is quiet and surrounded by nature, with local wildlife such as birds, owls, frogs, and wallabies. While it offers privacy, it is also conveniently located near everything you might need. Starting your day with the sound of birdsong is truly food for the soul.
