Vacation Rental License No. 001278
Welcome to Kate’s Place—a beautifully restored 3-bedroom, 2-bath Victorian home located just one block off Elk Avenue in the heart of Crested Butte’s historic district. This cozy retreat offers the perfect combination of mountain charm, modern comfort, and unbeatable location. You'll be steps from local shops, restaurants, galleries, and bars, as well as the free shuttle that runs every fifteen minutes to the ski resort base area.
Inside, the home features a warm and welcoming layout with abundant natural light and stunning mountain views from nearly every room. The living and dining areas are thoughtfully furnished to provide a relaxing atmosphere, while the fully equipped kitchen is ready for home-cooked meals. The spacious primary suite includes a divided bathroom for added convenience and a deep jetted soaking tub—perfect for melting away the day after mountain adventures. Two additional bedrooms provide plenty of comfort for family or friends.
Outdoors, you’ll find a large yard and patio space surrounded by seasonal floral gardens—perfect for soaking in the alpine air during the warmer months. There’s also a private deck, great for summer lounging. In the winter, however, we let nature take over—picture it snow-dusted and sparkling, a postcard-perfect scene that’s better admired than shoveled.
Kate’s Place has a unique and endearing history. The home was originally shipped from Chicago in 1922 as a "kit house" and constructed by a local miner as a wedding promise to his mail-order bride. After our family purchased it in the 1970s, we dedicated ourselves to restoring and updating the home while preserving its historic character. The result was recognized by the Crested Butte Board of Zoning and Architectural Review as the Best Historic Renovation, and today Kate’s Place is one of the most beloved vacation rentals in town. Many of its' guests return year after year.
As our guest, you’ll have full private access to the entire home, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully appointed kitchen, a comfortable living and dining area, and a private yard and patio. The home is smoke-free and pet-free to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all guests.
Parking Disclaimer: Guests are welcome to bring multiple vehicles, as there is no strict limit. However, vehicle details must be provided in advance in order to park in the residential permit zone nearest the home. Please also note that during the winter months, you’ll need to follow local snowplow regulations, which require moving cars from side to side each night to allow for plowing operations.
Beyond the doorstep, Crested Butte offers a wealth of activities. From world-class skiing and snowboarding in the winter to hiking, mountain biking, and wildflower-filled trails in the summer, outdoor adventure is always within reach. Tennis courts are just two blocks away, and local yoga studios, fitness classes, and spas are available year-round. Golfers will enjoy The Club at Crested Butte, featuring a scenic Robert Trent Jones II course, and those seeking water adventures can explore Blue Mesa Reservoir—Colorado’s largest lake—just 40 minutes away.
Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for another memorable stay, Kate’s Place offers the ideal base to experience the magic of Crested Butte in every season.
