Who is it ideal for:
✔ Couples seeking stillness and space
✔ Families wanting comfort + convenience
✔ Grandparents / multi-gen stays
✔ Cyclists, lake-lovers and winter visitors
Twizel is one of the most beautifully unhurried corners of the Mackenzie Basin - wide skies, mountain horizons, and the kind of stillness that’s hard to find anywhere else. It’s the perfect base for lake days, ski trips, bike trails, stargazing nights and reconnecting with the people you came with.
It’s peaceful, practical, and perfect for your next alpine escape.
Guest Access:
You have full access to our wonderful house and section. The garage and outbuildings are locked.
Other Things to Note:
Our Home: This is an original Twizel hydro home that has been lovingly furnished and cared for by us. It has the charm of the classic hydro-era layout, paired with warm, comfortable styling and modern conveniences. Guests love it for its cosy feel, great location and the easy base it provides for exploring the Mackenzie region.
Location: The retreat is very centrally located - directly across from the school and only a short walk to Twizel’s town centre for cafés, restaurants and supplies. You're also just minutes from the Twizel River walkway, a beautiful track for morning strolls, family bikes or unwinding at the end of the day. It’s an ideal base: close enough to everything to walk, but still peaceful and private.
Getting Around: You can walk to most things in Twizel from the house, including shops, cafés, playgrounds and the river track. Lakes, canals and fishing spots are a short drive away, and the cycle trails are easily reached by bike or car. There is off-street parking up the driveway with space for multiple vehicles.
Seasonal Note: In warmer months it’s a perfect launch pad for lakes, bike trails and long afternoons outdoors. In winter, it becomes a sanctuary of warm light and early nights in - a cosy retreat to return to after alpine days tramping and skiing.
Whether you’re looking for adventure or a quiet place to recharge, we hope Mackenzie Mews Retreat becomes a place you return to again and again.
We’re always just a message away if you need anything during your stay.
Interaction with Guests:
We offer easy self check-in so you can arrive in your own time, and we’re available by message if you need anything during your stay. We’re happy to recommend local walks, lake spots, bike trails or food options if you’d like tips during your visit.
We've also created a detailed guest book with everything you need: local recommendations, TV guide, how-to info for the house, emergency contacts, and a full list of services in Twizel. It’s all there to help you feel at home from the moment you arrive.
