Sandy Lake Cottage - Family Lakefront Getaway

Two-floor cottage on Sandy Lake near the public beach. Direct water access in a shallow bay - great for small children, or for lounging all day in the water. The water is always warm! Southwestern exposure makes for great sunsets on the deck, the dock, or by the fire pit. Located on a quiet street nestled amongst several family cottages, a great place for you and your extended family, or 2 families to share.

Sandy lake is a shallow, spring-fed lake, and not directly on the Trent-Severn waterway, so there is minimal boat traffic. It is well known for it's exceptionally clear water, and green-blue hue reminiscent of the Carribbean. Two Kayaks, two inflatable SUPs, a Canoe, and a Pedalboat are available. A few standard-sized lifejackets and marine rescue kits are also available. Explore the 5km long lake at your leisure! If you enjoy fishing, you will find largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye and panfish in the lake.

Central A/C for the main floor and a heat pump upstairs keep the cottage nice and cool on those more scorching summer days, though the shade from the mature trees typically keeps the cottage cool enough. Ceiling fans are located throughout the house and all bedrooms.

The town of Buckhorn is a short 5 minute drive away and provides access to LCBO, restaurants (pizza, chinese, pub & grill), Foodland, and Home Hardware. A longer, 30 minute drive will take you into the iconic Kawartha Lakes town of Bobcaygeon. For bigger outings, movies, or shopping, Peterborough is only a 35 minute drive south.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Guests are required to dispose of their trash/recycling at the local waste transfer station using the clear bags provided. There is no roadside pickup. Any trash left will result in a $100 damage fee.
Ensure watercraft are locked up underneath the deck.
Close the door to the woodshed and cover the firepit.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Pellet Smoker and Washing Machine are off-limits for guests.
Be respectful of neighbours, minimize noise between 10pm and 7am.
Respect fire safety - keep the fire to a reasonable size (less than 30" tall). Check Trent Lakes website for Forest Fire Index level before burning.

The water at Sandy Lake is beautiful. Very warm, shallow and sandy bottom. The cottage was great! It is rare to find 2 bathrooms, so that was a huge plus with 8 of us. It had everything that we needed including the use of watercraft and toys courtesy of the host. We brought 2 of our own kayaks but it was great to have access to the extras.While the location of the cottage is off a main road making it easy to find and quick access to amenities, you do hear the sometimes loud traffic while enjoying a morning coffee off the dock. Unfortunately the municipality is a little restricted with the garbage. Our last day at the cottage was on a Monday which meant we had to dispose of our own garbage and recycling on Sunday by 7 pm. We had to tote home our Sunday dinner garbage and recycling which is not ideal. Maybe this is common thing for cottage renters? , it was not the case with our last 2 rentals, so this was the only negative and should have been part of the cleaning fee. If I was to rent in the area again, I would go back here for the many pluses and the fact that the host was super responsive and accommodating.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. There were plenty of activities to enjoy, and the beach was only a 2-minute walk away. Overall, we had a great time, but the cleanliness of the house could have been better.
