Incredible views

Incredible mountain views. Plenty of room to run around and hike. House with just about anything you could need in a home away from home. Owners responsive to messages. Wifi is not great, but who needs it when there is so much to do outside! You won't regret staying here!

Fall stay

Enjoyed the views and the house. Be aware it’s a gravel driveway and one I would not want to attempt after dark. Owner was very good at responding to messages.

Beautiful views and abundant bird life!

We really enjoyed our stay at Spenceville Farm. The front porch had wide ranging views and was great for bird watching. The interior of the farmhouse was comfortable and well-equipped with hardwood floors throughout. The hosts were very accommodating and provided great information about the area. We can recommend highly The Museum of the Middle Appalachians and the Well Fields (inland marsh area) in Saltville, the VA Creeper trail in Abingdon, and Grayson Highlands State Park. We hope to come back!

Perfect place to relax and get away from it all!

This rental was a dream come true! The views are just as amazing as described! The house itself was so clean, super comfortable and had everything we needed! The property is massive and gave us lots to explore. The kids loved jumping on the trampoline and running on the hay bales. We got to meet a very curious herd of cows and a sweet horse. The owners are lovely and very responsive! We couldn’t have had a better stay. The internet is spotty, but honestly that was a good thing for us because who doesn’t need a break from technology? We cannot wait to return to do more exploring. Thanks for an amazing stay!

Nice Family Vacation

I chose this house because of its location to some state parks that I was hoping to visit as I continue on the Virginia Trail Quest. I was able to visit 6 more, Yeah!. The views are gorgeous. The night on the porch watching the sunset are my favorite. We enjoyed the games at the house. The weather prevented us from enjoying a fire in the firepit but maybe next time the weather will be better. The slowness of internet helps with teenagers, we are strict about data on their phones so we had many long talks with our kids which was nice.

Truly a million dollar view

We were in town for a wedding. The view was breathtaking. Quiet location set atop 300 acres of beautiful farmland. Plenty of sleeping quarters for our entire party of 12. Clean, comfortable and good WiFi. Terrific communication with the owners. You can order firewood and starters which they even delivered. No doubt if we’re ever in that area again we will make sure to book this hidden gem!

Little slice of heaven

We came here to relax and get away from it all and it was the perfect place to do just that! The mountains surrounding the farmhouse are simply stunning. We had plans to travel different places to hike, but we didn’t end up leaving the house at all for hiking. Why would we? You can hike around this beautiful place and there’s no other people in sight! No crowds, so peaceful and the porch swing bed was heaven! The house itself was beautiful too and had everything we needed.

Getting away on 2 wheels

This was our 2nd annual motorcycle ride with two of our dear friends!! We chose Spenceville Farms as our central location to leave each day for our 2 wheeled journeys including VA, TN and NC. Our stay at Spenceville Farms was perfect for the 4 of us, with each one having a bedroom upstairs. We enjoyed our mornings sitting on the front porch sipping our coffee as well as talking a walk on the property! It was a perfect peaceful get-a-way!!

Spectacular!

Our intention was to disconnect and get away from the "hustle & bustle" of city life, and boy did it work out! What a beautiful and peaceful retreat! The views are amazing, and the house is so comfortable and tasteful! We loved sitting on the porch swing while drinking coffee in the morning, and star gazing at night. The dogs loved chasing frisbees and running free. The kids (and parents) were super excited to find plenty of games and even a closet full of legos! We loaded the house with food and cooked almost all of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. We even stayed one whole day in the house without leaving, doing arts and crafts at the table. When we did venture out, we loved that there were several state parks and other attractions close by. We visited Hungry Mother State Park, Bristol VA/TN, Grayson Highlands, and Big Walker Lookout. Highly recommend.

Comfortable home with spectacular views!

Beautiful home on stunning property. Great location to explore surrounding areas with privacy and quiet setting. Home was generally clean except the floor was is need of a thorough cleaning. Short on essentials (toilet paper) and owner requires you to wash towels used. Poor Wi-Fi so be ready to unplug especially from TV/internet. Overall recommend for a peaceful country getaway with plenty of room for all.

Perfection

We stayed at the property with my family and friends celebrating my 40th. Owners left birthday card, flowers and decorated the kitchen for me!!! Everybody had so much fun, house had everything we needed, property is fun to explore. We were the last guests to see and take pictures with that cool truck. Sad to see it gone but super happy we took the pictures before it got moved. I absolutely loved our stay there!

Hiking weekend

We LOVED your home and location of the property. The views outside were breathtaking and the photos of the inside do not do the home justice. Our favorite activity at your home was having the fire in the evening, out in front, while watching the sunset. We used your home as a hub for our hiking weekend. It was so close to many amazing hikes. We chose to do The Channels and Devils Bathtub. While we were bummed we didn’t get to see Rowdy, we had another dog that slept on the porch while we were there that was super sweet. We hope the dog found its owner (if it wasn’t yours) or way back home.

About the host

Hosted by Diane Spence

Host profile image
Husband, Uncle, Father of two and Brother. Although I didn't live here growing up, I was taught some of life's most important lessons on nearby Farms from my Father's Brothers and Sister. The value of Family and of hard work. From a struggling adolescent to an accomplished Business man, to this day, these lessons have been the driving force in my life and I hope to pass them along to my children.

Why they chose this property

Very sentimental place for me and my family. My Father and his immediate family grew up on a near by Farm and lived hard on these lands. We were fortunate enough to buy the Farm in 2013 when Mrs. Roberts passed and had no next of kin to will to. Although there was a TON of work to do, it has become a center for my family to return home. My father was killed in an accident in 2009, so its even more meaningful for my sister and I to bring our families close together and stay connected to our/his family. We couldn't have done it without the help of our uncles and aunt (and their children) who most are nearby and are always there to lend a hand. For that we are grateful! No matter how far we go in this world, we visit frequently to stay connected to my family and always remember where we came from. We hope you will experience the same love for the property and feel the love that surrounds the place. You can also visit us at Spencevillefarms.com for more information about our property.
