About this property
Lakeside House with Private Sandy Beach, Stunning Views, Beach Toys, and Kayaks!
Welcome to Billie's Lake House! A classic lake house with the modern amenities you need to feel most at home and endless opportunities for as much fun or quiet as you desire! Come fish, swim, kayak, grill, or work on your laptop while surrounded by the unmatched beauty of Northern Idaho. We can't wait to have you!
A typical summer day for our family at "the cabin" is to wake up to views of a glassy smooth lake, make a cup or four of coffee and maybe go sit on the dock to watch the swallows skimming the water for their breakfast while the occasional morning kayaker glides by. The rest of the day is usually a whirlwind of swimming, eating together, playing board games, and sunbathing, with a possible alcoholic beverage here or there, but I will not confirm or deny such a thing. We are also often found lounging on the front patio, damp from our swim, watching ospreys and great blue herons flying above, while a scattering of fellow lake-goers whiz by on skis or float by in their small fishing boats patiently awaiting a bite. We eventually gather around the kitchen table to eat dinner and share stories from the day, some of us still in our swimsuits, while we watch the sunset and clear our plates. After dinner, you'll find us fishing off the dock, maybe watching a movie as a family, or leisurely cleaning up after our long easy day at the lake. We also end every night at the cabin with a bowl of ice cream. Yes, every night. You don't have to do this, but we'd highly recommend it.
If you’re not coming for swimming and fishing, but just want a beautiful, pristinely peaceful place to work from, our cabin is also very much for you. Even if you never go outside, you will be able to see the entire scope of the lake, the mountains, the birds, the fishermen, and the whole of lake life from any seat in the living room or kitchen. If you want to go outside but want fewer distractions, you can utilize our upstairs deck and do your work a little closer to the trees while not missing an inch of our incredible scenery.
House Amenities:
At Billie's Lake House, you'll get the rustic experience of being in a cabin that has been the jewel of our family for over 70 years, but with all of the modern amenities you'd desire in any place you stay. The main bathroom and kitchen have been completely remodeled in the last 5 years, we have new wifi, a brand new smart tv, and a bluetooth surround system. While cell service can be a little inconsistent at the cabin, we do have a landline in case of emergency (make sure to teach anyone under 30 how to use this ancient technology). The open floor plan in the main living area makes family time at the cabin feel effortless and cozy while there are still many pockets of the house to tuck away to for a little quiet time and privacy. While we can accommodate 10 at full capacity, we charge an additional $20 for every person after 6 people. There are also no pets allowed, unfortunately. Inside and outside.
Outdoor Amenities:
You have your own private sandy beach steps from the house, your own private dock, THREE patios to choose from, a nice sized lawn in the front and back of the house, on site parking, kayaks and water toys, fishing gear, snorkeling gear, and life jackets! Not to mention the brand new grill in the backyard! Don't miss the remote controlled retractable awning in the front, either. The sunsets are epic in our little corner of the lake, but it's nice to be able to enjoy them from the shade sometimes.
You are surrounded by beautiful wildlife here. We have ducks, geese, bald eagles, ospreys, hummingbirds, great blue herons and more of the avian variety! (We're a family of bird-nerds.) There are chipmunks, deer, moose, and there was a black bear in a tree in the backyard once about 30 years ago. It was very exciting, but not a creature we anticipate ever seeing again. In the lake we have sunfish, largemouth bass, trout, catfish, and turtles. The sunfish may curiously nip at your feet when you're in the water, but will cause you no harm. We also have bats at night, which are fun to watch zip through the dark, but they're looking for bugs, not you, so no need to worry about a calculated attack.
Shopping etc:
While the cabin itself is quite isolated, there is plenty of shopping within a short drive. Within 10 minutes, you can get to a Super-1 grocery store, a Bi-Mart, a hardware store, McDonalds, coffee stands, liquor store, post office, etc. If you need more options, you can get to a Walmart and a Starbucks, among other big name stores, within a 30 minute drive.
We are so excited to share such a beautiful place with our guests and look forward to hearing from you!

About the host
Hosted by Kathy Waters

I am a 67 year old recently, and enthusiastically, retired accountant and tax preparer. I grew up in Spokane but spent my adult life in the Tacoma area where I raised my three kids and still live. I am a widow, but I have three great kids, three wonderful grandchildren, and I enjoy needlework, going to church, and being in the outdoors.
Why they chose this property
My parents co-purchased this property with 2 other couples in 1949, four years before I was born. Over the years, the other couples sold their shares to my parents and it just belonged to our family. What started off as a small rustic cabin when I was a little girl, evolved into a 2000 square foot house that me and my kids have been able to enjoy every summer of our lives. While it was a summer house for my family and I growing up, my mom, Billie, ended up moving into the house year-round about 35 years ago with her husband Rocky. My kids grew up knowing it as "grandma's cabin", which it was, until she passed away in 2014. Since then, we've rented it to family and continued our annual summer trips, which are now a yearly tradition for a fourth generation; my grandkids. We look forward to many more years of family trips to the cabin, and are so excited to share such an incredibly special place with our new guests!
What makes this property unique
It is more rare than it seems it would be to have exactly what we have: a large house right on the water with a private, natural, sandy beach and a private dock. So many lake houses are a flight of stairs or two away from the water, or there is no beach, or the beach is rocky and uncomfortable. We also have a huge amount of entertainment available for your enjoyment; water toys, kayaks, yard toys, board games, fishing gear, smart tv, etc.
