The story begins with my husband's son attending Michigan Tech. After his first year he wanted to live off campus. Advising him to find a property that he could fix up and then possibly sell after he graduated, Carl's son began the hunt; but with many dead ends. When we told the realtor to open it up to see what was out there, this magnificent property came to light. Sitting on 220 acres, with a 10 acre lake, it was 'love' at first site. My husband purchased the property and 3 months later brainstormed the idea of starting an outdoor bible camp for high school kids, church groups, or sport teams. Already being a big supporter to Camp Luther, in Three Lakes, WI, Carl started the plan to make this area their base camp. With an old barn that hunters used stayed in, an old homestead, a 600 square foot cabin, and a double wide home residing on the property, it became clear there was much work to be done. Having the vision of creating something great, we began the construction of a pavilion, addition to cabin, and complete gut out of the barn. With these projects done, new ones continue to begin in transforming the property into a premiere camp for kids. Future projects consist of a welcome center, and additional camp sites, 3 more cabins.
The barn stands alone as it is a quarter mile away from the camp. Looking out from the upper deck on the barn, you can enjoy watching the geese fly in on the pond that also lies on the property. A great spot to watch some wildlife. The newly renovated double wide has been turned into a Love Palace Home, hence why we call it the LP and sits right on the private lake called Love Lake. The 2 newer built fish cabins (Walleye and Brook Trout) are tucked in a wooded area about 100 yards from the lake. The new rental, The Chalet is our previous house that was remodeled into a beautiful, warm home that will serve as a residence to our Camp Director in the summer months.
