Amazing House / Property; Resort is Less Good
We stayed at Villa Nonsuch for two weeks over the 2021 Christmas holiday period with our kids and their grandparents. In summary, Villa Nonsuch is a remarkable property with 180 degree views (sunrise to sunset) atop a substantial hill with top-of-the-line appliances, fantastic bedrooms, living space, and everything you could ask for in a holiday home. I can’t find a single fault with the property and home. My wife and I chuckled that this might be the first home that was better than the photos online. The property manager was very responsive and we hired a chef (Nigel) through the property manager who I could not recommend more. In most scenarios I would give Villa Nonsuch a 5 star rating across the board.
If you book this property, please note that the Nonsuch Bay Resort is barely operating. They sold their fleet of boats, which you still see in the online advertisements and website, and you cannot access the restaurant associated with the resort (ostensibly because of COVID, but we also heard from other property owners on the resort that the resort management has shifted its focus to their “Escape” offering, which has exclusive access to the restaurant). Other than visit a very sparce beach, there is little to do on the property and Nonsuch Bay is 40 min drive to the main towns / attractions on the island. Fortunately, there is an unaffiliated restaurant on the property called Rokuni that offers Asian fusion cuisine that would do well in New York and London.
If you’re a watersports enthusiast (as we are), you can piece together a fun week, but it takes work; you’ll have to contact a range of outside vendors and schedule all your activities in advance. I also recommend renting a car. We scheduled daily sailing rentals with the former director of sailing at the resort who is now operating independently (named Leslie – the property manager can connect you). We also had Kiteboarding lessons with an outfit called 40Knots who will pick you up at the resort (these are not cheap lessons, FYI). We made a few trips to Green Island, which has a beautiful beach and great snorkeling. To get there, you’ll need to connect with a water taxi (we used Devon and were connected via Leslie), which costs $20 per adult. Halfmoon Bay is a nice day trip and has a fun restaurant / bar in the parking lot.
If the resort were operating and had the fleet of boats / activities it advertises, we would already have booked next Christmas at Villa Nonsuch.
