Riverfront Cabin on the Madison! 35 minutes to Yellowstone Nat'l Park!!

Our custom built, 1600 sf cabin, which we affectionately refer to as 'The Fishing Shack', was completed in the fall of 2008. An additional 350 sf studio apartment was completed in 2013. The property is located on the Madison River, known for its majestic beauty and world class fly fishing. The cabin is a gorgeous, 35 minute drive to the entrance of Yellowstone National Park and about an hour to the winter hot spot, Big Sky Ski Resort. With its fabulous location, reclaimed barnwood floors, custom kitchen, 3 flat screen TVs, a Jotul wood-burning stove, and floor to ceiling windows, it is a magical vacation spot.

The primary suite has a queen bed with pillow top mattress, Smart TV, French doors opening to a 5 person Jacuzzi Tub overlooking the river, and a custom built pebble shower with dual shower heads (including a rain head). There are two bedrooms upstairs, each with log bunk beds (twin on top & queen below). Open the windows and let the smell of the mountains and the sound of the river lull you to sleep. The open loft has a cozy seating area, a third TV with DVD player, and game system for the kids (and the kids at heart). Directly on the river, you will find a large fire pit perfect for staying warm and making s'mores while watching the fishermen in your family catch that big brown just feet away.

Our cabin is located 30 minutes south of Ennis and 35 minutes from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It is situated in a friendly residential community with about six other homes and delightful neighbors. It is across the river from a Forest Service campground and a short walk to the world famous 'Grizzly Bar & Grill' (you must sample their delightful wine selection).

Fill the long summer days with activities such as fishing from the property, floating the Madison, exploring Yellowstone National Park, hiking beautiful mountain trails, horseback riding, listening to live music while sipping local wines and soaking in the Norris Hot Springs, experiencing an authentic Montana rodeo or riding the antique railway in historic Virginia City.

We just returned from staying a week at the “Fishing Shack” and absolutely loved everything about this cabin! The pictures of the cabin are great but wait until you see it for yourself, the owners really put their heart and soul into every detail and it showed! The sound of the Madison each night is something special. We loved the location as we could drive into the park or go the opposite way to Ennis and Virginia City. Amazing place!! We hope to return and definitely stay here again!!

What amazing home and location! We had the most relaxing and fun trip! My husband keeps asking when we’re going back! The home has everything you need and the location is great, especially if you’re fishing. We spent a day in Ennis (30 minutes away), and went to Yellowstone which was about 40 minutes. My husband caught a rainbow trout close to the house. You’re not close to much but I think it made for a perfect trip. There is a restaurant in walking distance with great food and service (we’re from New Orleans so we think our food is the best but this was delicious)!Please note there is no a/c in the house but with the fans we were fine. We will definitely go back!!!

Beautiful Cabin

Beautiful cabin! . Very well stocked. Beautiful views. Loved listening to the river. The beds were so comfortable!! It was a bit far to drive to Yellowstone. It takes about 45 minutes. Ennis was a quaint ittle town with a great butcher shop. Owner was very responsive to an issue that we had. I would definitely stay again!

Absolutely incredible! Our family of 6 stayed in this beautifully crafted cabin and couldn't have been happier. This is the best vrbo we've booked.. We loved the location right on the Madison River with a gorgeous view of the mountain range. My husband visited the local fly shop (Galloup's Slide Inn) which was just a 10 min drive with a wonderful staff who even gave him an impromptu fly fishing lesson! Easy and beautiful drive to West Yellowstone with more food options in town than we were expecting. Make sure to stop by Firehole BBQ and Mountain Mama's coffee house for a huckleberry pie and bison pot pie.Ps we loved the photo book of the cabin. You built such a special home and we appreciate you sharing with our family!

Beautiful Country

Our family had the best time staying at The Fishing Shack. We put a lot of miles on the car doing lots of things. Beautiful hikes and scenery! It was always nice to come back to the huge deck overlooking the Madison river. We did not want to leave!

Perfect Yellowstone Adventure

The Fishing Shack was the perfect base camp for our Yellowstone adventure!!! The setting was absolutely breathtaking and the house was fabulous! It is in between 2 super cute towns and was super easy to find!!! Highly recommend for groups and extended families! Thanks for sharing this awesome place!!!

Beautiful property, wonderful accommodations. We loved our stay. The park was great but my favorite day was when it rained and we stayed in the house. The birds around and and the river are amazing! If there was a negative, it was the mosquitoes, but a little repellant or skin-so-soft does the trick!

Cabin on the Madison

Great relaxing area! VRBO gives directions to West Yellowstone but the house is 30 minutes from West Yellowstone in Cameron MT. Definitely book at Grizzly Bar and Grill. It is the only restaurant within 15-20 miles. We also ate at the Happy Hour Bar and Grill which was pretty decent bar food. Not really family friendly though.

We enjoyed a fantastic week with our children and grandchildren here at The Fishing Cabin beautifully located on the scenic Madison River. The cabin met our every need. The views are great. The location is perfect for Yellowstone as well as the Virginia City/Nevada City areas. It is also reasonable for a trip to Jackson, Wy. We have really enjoyed our time here. This worked out perfectly.

Spectacular! Don’t think twice about staying here!!!

We had five adults staying for a family vacation to Yellowstone This was everything we hoped for and more … right on the river and with the bedroom windows open you can listen to the river and the birds from the bedrooms. Extremely clean and all the towels and bedding were supplied. The apartment was well appointed and very comfortable for our 20 year old son but he was disappointed that there was no internet signal there. I would have loved that as I tried to keep my phone away for this trip The Direct TV and internet in the main house was spot on and never had an issue. Be sure to read the wonderful guide from the hosts. We enjoyed several of their suggestions. Virginia City is a must. We wish we had more time to spend there as we didn’t see it all Be sure to have your grocery list and check it twice as there is nothing around to get milk, eggs ,etc without a half hour drive to Island Park gas station The drive to Yellowstone is about 35 miles and is an easy drive. Ennis is about the same drive time away and was a great fishing town

Perfect getaway

The Fishing Shack is the perfect home away from home! The owners have thought of every detail to make your vacation the best it can be. The location is perfect - close enough to many area attractions (including Yellowstone), but far enough away to enjoy the waters of the Madison River. The in-law suite above the garage allowed the grandparents to be with us, but far enough away from the kids! Can't say enough wonderful things about the owners and this beautiful property.

My 4 grown children and 3 grandchildren plus myself stayed for 9 great days. The house is very well furnished and comfortable. It accomodated our family well. Many family games are provided. Pantry may be well stocked by unused groceries from previous visitors.

A week on the Madison

Loved the house and its setting. Picture perfect. Only complaint is the location. So far from things like groceries and gas stations. Others than that we had a fabulous family vacation at the Fishing Shack! Fishing, s’mores and Yellowstone!

July Vacation

Very nice clean cabin on the Madison River. Plenty of room for large families. Views nearby were incredible. Owner Dave was extremely pleasant and great to deal with. Loved the hot tub. Our sons enjoyed their first time at fly-fishing. Only fallback was the flying bugs probably due to river and grass/weeds nearby so bug spray is definitely needed. Many thanks to Dave for a beautiful trip to Montana especially Yellowstone.

Beautiful River Front View

Beautiful view of river. Great guest information letter provided by host. Cliff Lake was close and so pretty. I wouldn’t have known of this if not for the host’s information. Used the Guide Along app for Yellowstone visit. Great audio guide that plays as you drive through the park. Uses GPS so plays according to your location. Property is walking distance to Grizzly Bar & Grill. Friendly staff and excellent food. Reservations strongly recommended. Property Is somewhat remote being about 30 minutes from Ennis and 30 minutes from West Yellowstone. Being by the river, there were mosquitoes, so bring spray. I recommend this property and host.

Amazing vacation stay - highly recommend

This property was amazing. Beautiful cabin right on the Madison River. We had 6 adults and 1 baby and we were very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful deck, the hot tub & the fire pit (firewood was available for us to use). The owners were very available for us to call. We had 1 issue that we needed to call them about and they immediately took care of the problem. They wanted to make sure everything was perfect for us. We were located 40 min from Yellowstone. We spent 7 fantastic days at the cabin including 2 at the park. We would highly recommend this property to anyone and we would love to go back someday.

Montana magic

My family of adult children and their spouses stayed at the fish shack for a wonderful week in early July. The place is "as advertised" and was very comfortable for up to 4 couples, we had one couple stay in the separate guest house. The place is right on the Madison river and is a fly fisherman's dream with an enormous amount of hatches occuring most of the day which made for excellent trout fishing, albeit was a bit "buggy" for the non-fisherman. We took the beautiful ~35 minute drive thru the Montana Rockies along the Madison river and Earthquake Lake to West Yellowstone and did the park most days. Yellowstone is a unique place in the world and despite being jaded global travellers who have "seen it all" we were all blown away by the geysers, hot springs, waterfalls and abundent wildlife. Thanks to the insights provided by the host, we made reservations and ate dinner 3 nights at the Grizzley Bar & Grill which has both excellent food and service in addition to a full service bar, wine and beer and is located a short 2-3 minute walk from the Fish Shack. When were were not eating out, we cooked in the well stocked kitchen. We used the hot tub be the river each night before bed. The sun sets late in July (~10pm) make it a point to see the stars as they are fantastic. There is so much more to see and do and is a perfect place for an active family that loves the outdoors. Everyone of us really enjoyed our collective experience.

This was our third year staying at “The Fishing Shack” which says it all. Things we enjoyed most were the location- near to YNP and fly fishing excursions, cleanliness of the cabin, a well equipped kitchen, hot tub, access to the river and breathtaking views. We were fortunate to have a few days of snow which was a bonus, but it was a challenge driving out of the steep graveled driveway. However, that was a very minuscule problem with a Suburban. During previous visits we really enjoyed going to the Grizzly Bar restaurant up the hill, but this year it was closed for the owners who were on a break. Overall we really loved spending time at the cabin. The owner is very communicative and quickly responsive to messaging. We hope to stay again in the future.
