Oceanfront Beauty ~Balcony~FirePit~Huge Deck~Wifi~A/C~Pet-Friendly~Birding~GREEN

Imagine waking to a golden-glowing sun rise over a blue, sparkling horizon, taking in the aroma of brewing coffee, and enjoying it out on your cozy balcony in the invigorating early morning air. Heavenly.

Lubec Bay Cottage sits on a 3-acre oasis of wildflower-filled oceanfront meadows and bloom-filled organic gardens. Bald Eagles glide overhead, while clammers work the low tide out our back door. My cottage is a beautiful 2-bedroom home with two outdoor decks and a 2nd floor balcony off our master bedroom, all with breathtaking views - blue skies against a shimmering blue sea, with tall grasses and wildflowers blowing in the breeze. It is the perfect place to get out of the city and reconnect with nature and can be used as your base for all the adventures that Lubec has to offer. It is only a short drive to downtown Lubec and Campobello Island, Canada, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and so many hiking and sightseeing opportunities.

Book with confidence! In 2020, chosen by TRIPS to DISCOVER as one of Maine's 20 Stunning Oceanfront Vacation Rentals! We have had 166 (and counting) complimentary 5-star reviews! Just about every review Likes our cleanliness, check-in process, communication, location, and listing accuracy. No surprises here, except good ones!

It has that real Down East Maine cottage feel that people love! And the sunrises and views seen from our back door are to die for!

Our 17 years of hosting experience really shows. Our recent guest from New York City, John wrote in his review: "Wow! Catherine and her cottage may have spoiled all future vacation stays for us! Her thoughtful communication, warm welcome, and generous amenities will be hard to match. The cottage is so cozy and quiet, with an incredible view, and perfectly located to explore the Lubec area."

The fact that we have so many repeat guests - one couple has returned every summer since we started renting our cottage back in 2008 - gives future guests confidence that their experience with us will meet and probably exceed their expectations.

Also, upon your arrival, you will receive extra special THANK YOU gifts for choosing Lubec Bay Cottage! And the special touches around the cottage will make you feel so at home. You won't find this at other rentals!

Imagine having fabulous bay views from every room and being surrounded by 3 oceanfront acres of bird-friendly organic gardens and lush wildflower meadows in a peaceful, rural setting. Stroll down our Boardwalk to our private shoreside sitting area with fire pit, which is adjacent to the renowned Sand Bar birding marshes. This enchanting cottage is situated in a breathtaking setting with spectacular sunrises and is beautifully furnished with fine antiques and coastal decor; a 1920's picture-perfect Downeast cottage that has kept its original character and charm, while having all the comforts to make you feel at home. So many of the other rental cottages here in Lubec have lost their Maine charm. But even with the many updates we have made our cottage still gives you that Down East Maine feeling!

We're located half-way between County Rd and the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse on the S Lubec Rd. You can find us - "Lubec Bay Cottage" on Bing Maps.

Because our cottage is a Maine DEP-certified Environmental Leader implementing eco-friendly practices, you will feel safe and be minimizing your environmental footprint during your stay. You can freely enjoy our gardens, lawn areas and meadow because they are organically maintained, and you also won't have to worry about harsh chemicals because housekeeping only uses GREEN cleaning products. We have implemented a recycling program, minimize our use of one-use containers, and encourage our guests to recycle during their stay.

Our expansive 400 square foot outdoor living area is a wonderful space for grilling, dining, and taking in the views on our cozy swing. With a balcony just off the master bedroom, you have a bird's eye, 180-degree view of the ocean and can see the Spark Plug lighthouse and Campobello, Canada! Also, we have added a cozy deck with chaise lounges for spending a lazy, relaxing afternoon.

Close enough for walking to South Lubec beach, our Cottage is less than 2 miles from West Quoddy Head State Park with Lighthouse and 4 miles from town and Campobello Island with its Roosevelt Park and East Quoddy Lighthouse.

Along with having an extraordinary cottage with beautiful surroundings we provide special touches that you will only find at Lubec Bay Cottage! Our cottage doesn't feel like a vacation rental - you will feel at home, like family.

We are very pet-friendly! Your dog(s) will love it here. On the property, we have a lovely meadow and lawn area; are adjacent to the sand bar marshes; and are close to the expansive South Lubec beaches. We also supply pet food bowls. Not far away are numerous hiking trails for you and your pet to explore.

Due to our balcony and steep stairs, the cottage is not appropriate for children under 12 years old. Elderly that have trouble climbing stairs may find our stairs too steep. All bedrooms are on the second floor.

Romantic Getaway:
Lubec Bay Cottage is wonderful for honeymooners or for those celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or searching for a romantic getaway. In the morning, awake to a beautiful sunrise over the bay and sip your morning coffee or tea while relaxing on the balcony. While enjoying your lunch on the deck, watch the bald eagles flying over the bay. In the evenings, enjoy a fire at the shoreside fire pit; listen to the relaxing sounds of a foghorn; enjoy a romantic slow dance to your favorite song under the brilliant night sky. For indoor leisure time, play one of the several popular board games; warm up to the electric fireplace while watching a movie chosen from our DVD library; read from our library of sea-themed and Maine-authored books. All this without leaving the property!

Artist's Dream:
You don't have to be an artist to enjoy Lubec Bay Cottage! But if you would like to bring your paints, brushes, and canvases for painting while on vacation there is a working studio for your use on the property. The situation is intended to complement the comfortable surroundings with an atmosphere of creativity. The Studio is an early 1900's rustic workshop that has been converted into a working studio with plenty of natural light, several work benches, a French easel with daylight lamp, drying rack, space station and cart, pack stool, designer's drafting table with ergonomic adjustable chair, and print rack. The picturesqueness and natural beauty of Lubec is truly inspiring and you will enjoy the luxury of having your own working studio. We only ask that the equipment not be used for children's play.

Birding Paradise:
Lubec Bay Cottage looks out onto the South Lubec Sand Flats, debatably one of the top ten places to bird in Maine. Migratory shorebird abundance and diversity is among the highest along the eastern U.S. coast. Whether you observe from the deck, the balcony or the shoreside observation area, you won't be disappointed. You may also access the Sand Flats from the property. A number of shorebirds have been spotted including the Short-billed Dowitcher, Black-bellied Plover, White-Rumped Sandpiper, Bairds, Least Sandpiper, Dunlin, Semipalmated Plover, and Lesser Yellowlegs. The cottage is a short drive to other Downeast birding locations including Quoddy Head State Park overlooking the Grand Manan Channel, Carrying Place Cove Bog, Boot Head Preserve (notorious for its Spruce Grouse), and Campobello Island. For your use, we keep a copy of an excellent Maine birding resource, 'Maine Birding Trail' in our library.

Writer's Retreat:
Lubec Bay Cottage is extremely comfortable and so peaceful. It encourages inspiration in abundance. This classic, cozy cottage with its surroundings stimulates creativity, feeds your imagination and allows you to concentrate without distraction. It is a perfect writer's retreat.

Lubec isn't another Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park - it offers all the beauty and adventure of those areas, but without the crowds!

If you are not a morning person, a stay at Lubec Cottage will make you one. Waking up to the sunrise outside the french doors of the master bedroom is just stunning! Our stay was exactly what we were looking for — quiet, relaxing, and much needed de-stressing. Hiking trails are 10-20 minutes drive away. Cottage amenities are well thought out and was much appreciated. Take time to read some of the framed items (ie article by front door, letters found when remodeling in master br).Note: If you’re a chocolate lover, stop by Monica’s Chocolates only 1.3 miles away from cottage!

Lubec in June !

The flowers around the cottage are stunning in late June, just everywhere, all colors. Views are beautiful from every room. We were lucky to have beautiful sunny weather, for Maine residents it might have been a heat wave, for southerners just a nice warm day to enjoy ! The upstairs window airconditioner worked perfect to keep both bedrooms cool for the one warmer night.

Great stay for birdwatchers

A beautiful and ideal setting for birdwatchers and nature lovers. We had a wonderful time, loved the location for going to many birding hotspots, and totally enjoyed sitting out on the incredible deck overlooking the bay. The house is well stocked with any and everything you might need to enjoy your stay.

Beautiful!!

The setting as well as the home itself are spectacular! The house is cozy, has everything you can think of, and the views are stunning! Our kids had a blast playing in the marsh at low tide- it is like a different world. We really loved this stay and hope to return again.

A beautiful, comfortable, peaceful retreat

This house had everything we could want: a well equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, and two beautiful decks with spectacular views overlooking the ocean. This was our first visit to this part of Maine, and we loved the quiet and absence of crowds. There was even a separate art studio next to the main house! We look forward to coming back.

A wonderful place to stay

We felt at home again during our second visit to this comfortable rental with a spectacular view, and have booked a return visit for next year as well! It's just minutes away from Lubec center and the West Quoddy lighthouse. The owner is a terrific host and very responsive to any concerns or questions. We highly recommend Lubec Bay Cottage for your visit to the Lubec/Campobello region.

Wonderful stay

We had an amazing time in Lubec! The house had everything we needed and the owner goes above and beyond to make your stay feel elevated from the thoughtful welcome gift to the comfy bedding! The views were amazing and we spent the majority of the time on the decks enjoying the view! You are very close to Quoddy Lighthouse, the town of Lubec, along with other hiking spots. This place was perfect to unplug and just enjoy a slower pace. Also very dog friendly!

Lubec gem

What a lovely place. The location is perfect, between town and Quoddy Head. We hiked every day and walked the bar beach. But, best of all, was sitting on the decks drinking in the view and waking in the morning to the ocean sun rise with the lobster boats heading out. The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable. We had a wonderful time.

Lovely Stay

Beautiful and cozy home situated right next to the water with ocean views. If you are looking to recharge, this is the place to do it. We had a restful stay and there are plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area to keep you occupied. The Canada border is also only 10 minutes away. Catherine was also a tremendous host and was quick to reply if any questions were to arise. Would stay here again.

Super unique, everything 4 Texans looking for a Maine Autumn experience could want for!

Very well appointed; we were able to cook comfortably and relax outside/ inside. We did so much exploring didn’t need tv. We saw seals, eagles, bought fresh local lobster and cooked at home, went clamming and cooked chowder. So close to lots of amazing parks, lighthouses, endless options. felt like we packed-in as much as we could outdoors and still really loved coming back to the cottage.

Utterly Perfect In Every Way

Lubec Bay Cottage is, without question, the most comfortably and beautifully appointed vacation rental I've ever enjoyed. Catherine, the owner, thought of every single contingency, and the home is idyllic, serene, gorgeous and cozy. It has the most stunning view, two very comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, so many different wonderful places to relax and settle in, a beautiful art studio and any information a guest could possibly need about the surrounding areas. AND Catherine had a basket of local goods, fresh flowers and an anniversary card and cake waiting for us! It was a dream and I'm already planning my next trip back.

Quiet Time

For us, Lubec Bay Cottage was all about the setting. We enjoyed meandering around the natural plantings in the yard and down the field path to the marsh. The subdued fall palette of orange, brown, reds and yellows made a lovely contrast to the vivid blue of the Bay and blue sky. Even inside, the patio doors upstairs and down gave us full advantage of the stunning view. The cottage itself was charming and held everything and anything one might need for a stay. Lubec and the surrounding area is aptly named “The Bold Coast”. The fall is a wonderful time to visit, and Lubec Bay Cottage is a lovely spot!

Charming and Comfortable Cottage

My husband and I were so comfortable - and spoiled at Lubec Bay Cottage!!! The charm is off the charts and although we couldn't go to Campabello because of the closed border we found hiking the local trails just what the doctor ordered. We took the ferry one day over to Eastport for lunch and loved some of the local restaurants that were open. The view from the bedroom is spectacular and we loved being woken up early by the sunrise. Even the one day of fog and rain was a delight. The bed was scrumptious and decadent - we may need to get a feather bed now! The water was hot and the walk down the path to the marsh & sandbar just lovely. Catherine was wonderful and the goodie bag and fresh veggies that arrived later in the week were unexpected special touches. We loved everything about our stay here!

We spent a glorious week at this lovely cottage! This cottage is an absolute gem! We have visited Lubec many times and the lodge we usually stayed in was booked so we tried this rental. It is our new favorite! The property owner, Catherine, is exceptional - she has added many touches to the rental that are over and beyond what a traveler expects from a rental. I am a horticulture professor and naturalist, my husband is a hobby photographer, and we are both avid birders. This property was perfect for our interests. The views are unparalleled - there are several decks, all with views of the water. There is a path through a wildflower meadow that leads to the marsh where a fire pit and seating provides a front-seat view to the bay. The wildlife is astounding - several uncommon species can be found in the marsh and on the property. Sunrise is magnificent, whether viewed outdoors or indoors from the main deck or the bedroom deck. The cottage is a well loved and maintained piece of local history - antique furnishings and decor along with historical references throughout the cottage, many are timeless and add to the charm of the cottage. The cottage decor and furnishings invoked warm childhood memories of my grandparents and aunts and uncles no longer with us. The kitchen is well equipped and functional, with plenty of room to prepare meals, and a grill is also provided on the deck. We just lost our precious dog before our trip, this was a much needed getaway. We loved this rental!

Beautiful Views!

Our family of three had a great time at this cottage and it provided a perfect home base to explore! This home had everything we needed from comfortable beds, a well-supplied kitchen, and fantastic views. Wifi worked well. We loved sitting on the main deck and watching the tides. We walked from the house to beach a few times to explore at low tide. There is a propane lobster pot that we used to cook live lobsters outside which we bought at H&D/Shore Thing. We cooked a lot but also ate a nice meal at Inn on the Wharf and Cohills in town. Both excellent. From the cottage you can quickly access beautiful coastal trails, some less than 10 minutes away! Visiting Campobello Island is super easy as well. We loved the area, no large crowds. Lovely decorations and touches throughout the home. The farmers market items were a nice touch as well as the goodies! Thank you for a week of wonderful memories!

Rest Relax Repeat

I loved!-Love! my stay at Lubec Bay Cottage. Catherine is a wonderful host - you can tell by her communications that she wants you to have a great experience. The cottage is clean- delightfully decorated- a fun vintage, beach, and local combination. And the view! It is magical starting your day coffee in hand, sitting in bed watching the lobster boats go to sea while the sun comes up. The deck and garden is a lovely place to read or write or sit and look out over the field to the ocean, which brings a sense of calm - a sense of peace- a sense of joy. The town of Lubec is a throw-back to a different time. There are not many choices for nightlife and food; what is there is fun, enjoyable, and memorable. It is what makes the place charming. I am so grateful to have had the experience!

Sanctuary

Our 7 days at Lubec Cottage were amazing! We slept with the blinds open to be awakened at 4:45 am to the blush of the sunrise! The property is awash in beautiful hues of pink, blue and yellow. Hydrangeas everywhere! After full days of exploring and photographing the beautiful landscapes from Cutler to Canada, we relaxed on the comfy sofa and watched movies. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. Super comfy bed, delightful shower and all the comforts of home. Upon arriving, we found fresh, local veggies in the fridge and a lovely gift bag of local favorites including coffee, maple syrup, wild blueberry honey and ambrosial handmade soap. Lubec Cottage is the perfect location to explore the Bold Coast. Thank you Catherine for providing such a marvelous sanctuary. It was truly a trip of a lifetime! Chip & Suzette

This place was perfection. My husband and I brought out two dogs and truly enjoyed our stay. The house was cute. The view was great. A perfect spot to watch the sunrise on the walkout balcony. The deck is so spacious and lots of options for sitting. THE absolute best part were all the little touches and TLC that Catherine put into the place. It’s very evident as you walk through the house and the grounds that Catherine is a true host to her core and hospitality is her #1 goal. She just wants you to have a great experience. From the comfortable bed, to the cozy living room, to the mud boots (in a variety of sizes), to the gift bag, her hospitality is on display. This is the first time using VRBO, usually use another site and have stayed at about 30 places. Out of all the rentals we’ve stayed at, this is the first that I felt that way. I would definitely recommend.

This was a surprise get away. With that, I was surprised by the location’s beauty and excited to stay in a cottage that was like a doll house. The cottage was well decorated, supplied, and overall clean. Being close to the West Quoddy Lighthouse, Campobello Island, all the natural trails, and of course being able to see the sunrise over the Atlantic where it touches the continental US first thing (while in bed if you so choose) is amazing!! Wonderful experience!

Loved this cottage for its beautiful yard (esp. hydrangeas and field), glorious views from the master bedroom and proximity to the West Quoddy State Park. The trails at Quoddy were superb and the striped lighthouse was a bonus (go for a sunset!). Campobello Island in Canada is nearby. A 30-minute-ish tour of FDR’s summer cottage on the island was worthwhile. (No entry fees. Bring your passport.) Watch “Sunrise at Campobello” DVD at the cottage before going. It tells the story of Franklin D. Roosevelt's life from 1921, the year he was diagnosed with polio while at the cottage, through 1924. I plan to stay at this pleasant cottage again soon!
